An Introduction to iPAD

Greenspring Computer Club, February 14, 2012

• Studies indicate a positive contribution of Internet use to mental well-being of elderly Americans, and estimates indicate that Internet use leads to about a 20% reduction in depression.

• “The iPad can help seniors avoid becoming isolated. If you can't get to the library, the video store or the newsstand, they can come to you.”

• “What the iPad has done, better than other computing devices, is make the technology invisible. You don't need to repair a car in order to drive it, and you shouldn't need to be a computer jockey in order to turn one on and use it.”

• “Will seniors be happy with it?  It depends.” - “Those accustomed to using traditional computers may be

frustrated. On the other hand, those who experience computing and wireless Internet communication for the first time with the iPad are likely to find it delightful.”

- “Then there are those who just like to have the latest gadgets; they will be the most delighted of all!”

From any computer or iPad go to http://support.apple.com/manuals/ipad/ and down load the pdf version (iOS5 is the latest). The manual is quite complete and is a good way get to know the iPad. You can also get the manual from the iBook store or you can read it on line in Safari on the iPad. You will find it in the Safari bookmarks.
