What came first, the chicken or the egg? Honestly, I am not sure how to answer that question, but I get a very similar question from franchisees when talking to them about tracking their numbers

and KPIs. Their question is: “Why should we spend time on tracking numbers and KPIs when we need to spend time generating more phone calls?” I agree 100 percent that every company must spend time marketing and advertising to make the phone ring more often. We all know that nothing happens until we get in a customer’s home. But even though we may invest significant money to generate calls, we may not truly capitalize on the opportunity if we are not tracking that investment.

For each and every call ran, we should have an expectation, and that expectation should be that we hit the KPIs. Whether we are running two calls or 20 calls, the KPIs hold true and keep us grounded on what the expectations should be. It couldn’t be clearer: 50 percent Add-On Tasks, 20 percent Accessory Tasks, 10 percent Comfort Designer Leads, 40 percent Advantage Plans, Average Tickets for Service of $300 and Maintenance of $150. We are not in the business to see how many calls we can run a day, a week or a month, but rather, how much revenue can we make per call. If we are only concerned with how many calls we run, then we will never generate the revenues, profits and cash flow we need to run and grow our business. I have seen companies marketing, advertising and running calls but not coming anywhere close to the KPIs. They wonder why they aren’t making any money, when in reality they spend $250 to $350 or more in advertising costs to get a new customer to call them but do not track that the technician only brought in a $200 invoice and didn’t hit any of the KPIs. It is the use of the tools, like the Big Board, the KPIs, Technician Time Sheets, the Daily Stat Sheet and the regular technician meetings that keep everyone focused on the grand prize, which is the amount of revenue generated on each call. So, the answer to the question why we should spend time on tracking numbers and KPIs when we need to spend the time generating more phone calls is to ensure that you are doing everything possible to maximize the highest revenue and profits possible on every call ran for a greater return on your investment.

By the end of August, the Federal Highway Trust Fund will have run out of money unless Congress acts this summer. Without it, federally supported transportation projects across the nation may

be cancelled. What does the Federal Highway Trust Fund have to do with our home services brands? We depend on good, safe highway transportation every day to serve our customers. We have a direct vested interest in highway maintenance and improvements. Congress set up the Highway Trust Fund with a flat per gallon tax, which has not been raised from 18.4 cents per gallon since 1993. States add as little as 8 cents and as much as 50.6 cents per gallon to that tax, depending upon where you live. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and 30 state chambers are calling on Congress to not only solve the immediate transportation funding crisis, but also to invest in America’s future transportation system needs for the next five years. The American Society of Civil Engineers estimates that just to keep the transportation system up to date by 2020, it will take more than $3.6 trillion. At the end of August, the federal contribution may be zero, and our interstate highway system will suffer.

Would a federal highway transportation investment require a tax increase? Probably. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, at current fuel consumption rates for the average American, that would be an increase of $43 per month. However, the tax increase doesn’t sound so bad when you consider the wasted gas we spend sitting in traffic and the wear and tear on our vehicles from driving on bad roads. The average driver will spend $31.41 monthly on vehicle repairs due to wear and tear. That driver also will waste about 1.5 gallons of gas monthly, which at current average price is $5.25. Really, the gas tax increase for the average driver would be $6.34 per month. That’s about the same cost of a visit to the local fast food restaurant or coffee shop. Now think about how much more responsive we could be to our customers if we could trade slow driving and traffic time for one more booked appointment each day. The cost of that tax increase could quickly be absorbed. Wouldn’t you like to serve one more customer a day? Ask your friends to be willing to go without a couple tacos or a latte macchiato once a month. If not, they will have plenty of time to eat and drink while sitting in traffic.

Brand-Specific Reunion Sponsorships

At Reunion, there are various sponsorships that allow your company to target individual brands. The following packages vary in networking opportunities and are priced per brand.

Each brand will have an opportunity for 10 vendors to participate in their brand-specificvendor card. Franchisees will go to each vendor’s booth listed on their brand-specificvendor card during the Vendor Show at Reunion. Once the franchisee has collected all10 signatures, they will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win an exciting doorprize*!

At Reunion, each brand plans a fun activity for its franchisees. It may be a casino night, a scavenger hunt, an offsite excursion, etc. Your company can sponsor this highly anticipated evening for either a single brand or multiple.
