American skunk-cabbage - Lysichiton americanus
Native to North America it was introduced to the UK by gardeners and now resides in boggy acid soils in wet
woodlands, streamsides and pond margins. It is identified by a strong skunk-like smell, large yellow flowers and
grows to 90cm height. It can be invasive but the impacts are currently unknown.
Management Options:
Chemical Treatment
2,4-D amine at 4.5kg active ingredient per hectare using a spray or weedwiper.
Suitability: Easiest treatment during dry seasons where access to wet margins and muddy areas becomes
firmer.
Equipment: Knapsack sprayer. Life jacket and any other personal protective equipment deemed necessary
after risk assessment.
Efficiency: Moderate/Good
Constraints: Requires AqHerb01 approval from the Environment Agency and NPTC PA1 & PA6
qualifications. Potential non-target damage.

Glyphosate at 6 l/ ha using a spray or weedwiper.
