“ American groups enjoy the Premier Hurling Experience in Nenagh” I am happy to announce that I have played my part in helping to encourage American touring groups to come to Nenagh with a unique “Premier Hurling Experience” in the County where the G A A was founded this is added to the 700 people that I brought to the town last year. The experience sets out to give the Groups a basic knowledge of the ancient sport of Hurling and the groups also get to take part in unique Hurling drills before taking part in a “Puc Fáda” competition. The group then finish off their Hurling experience with a Hurley making exhibition by Master Craftsman Phil Bourke. The winner of the “Puc Fada” then gets presented with the finished Hurley and a Sliotar. This year has seen three groups taking part in the Hurling experience, they have not experienced Hurling before and they tell me that it is the highlight of their tour of Ireland and cant wait to go back to America to seek out Hurling teams in their own Area. The Groups that have taken part this year are Pomfret School Choir from Connecticut U S A who were here for the Gathering of Voices, Rowan University Rugby from New Jersey U S A and Ithaca University Rugby from New York U S A all of these groups spent two nights in the Abbey Court Hotel which has proven to be a top class hotel for Travelling teams coming to the area. The groups also availed of a 10% discount kindly offered to the visiting teams by A Sportsman’s dream sports shop in Nenagh and they spent freely in town with Hurleys high on their shopping list. There are a number of other groups booked into the Premier Hurling experience from April onwards and im sure they will enjoy the experience and the town as much as all the previous groups have enjoyed Nenagh proving to me that Councillor Seamus Morris, Rathnaleen, Nenagh, Co.
