AIR TRANSPORT WORLD HAS NAMED AMERICAN AIRLINES THE 2017 AIRLINE OF THE YEAR

Air Transport World’s 2017 Airline of the Year

ATW editors selected American from a field of more than 10 global competitors, in recognition of the achievements by our employees this past year. The successful integration of American and US Airways was also the largest, most complex airline merger in history. And throughout the process, we committed to invest more than $3 billion in new customer products and services that include new-generation aircraft; greater onboard connectivity, entertainment and dining choices; upgraded lounges; and new city pair services. We could not have accomplished this without the hard work of our employees and the dedication of travel partners like you. We look forward to reaching greater heights together.

ENHANCING SECURITY WHILE DECREASING THE TIME TRAVELERS SPEND IN SCREENING

New, automated screening lanes at Chicago

American, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and ORD have collaborated to launch automated security screening lanes in Terminal 3 at ORD.

These new lanes are designed to automate many functions currently conducted manually, allowing passengers to move more swiftly through the checkpoint:

• Automated belts draw bags into X-ray machines while diverting bags that require a secondary inspection; belts also return bins back to the queue after screening completion

• Bigger bins that are 25 percent larger

• RFID tags attached to each bin, along with cameras to capture photos of the bag’s exterior – ensuring the correct bag is pulled if further inspection is needed
