“What goes around, comes around!” And so it has come to pass that many of the far-out programs that were undertaken at the dawn of the space age are again - 50 years later – being looked at or acted upon. These include nuclear applications for propulsion and power, booster recovery and rescue, robotic planetary exploration and sea launched Orbital Rocketes.

The Annual Midwest Aviation Expo was held at the Maryland Height Centre, January 17 & 18, 2009. AIAA supported and participated in the regional FAASTeam activities and regional aviation out reach programs.

An enthusiastic presentation of runway markings was presented by the regional FAA Safety office with many examples and a quiz.

The FAASTeam is developing a series of Aviation Safety videos to promote preflight planning, cockpit procedures, runway safety, etc. They also highlighted educational efforts to bring the thrill of aviation to young adults. See a sample at www.avtrain.net

Cathe Fish, nationally recognized aviation safety speaker, addressed 21st Century Technology, focusing on the evolution of the glass cockpit and integrated avionics.

Our Gateway Chapter provided an AIAA booth featuring member products and projects. A number of aviators signed up to receive the Gateway Newsletter via. E-mail.
