Prambanan

Near the royal city of Yogyakarta, the temple gardens of Prambanan were once

dedicated to kings who considered themselves as Gods. The centrally located Shiva

temple overlooks a series of smaller shrines, spread out an open-air museum of Hindu-

Javanese antiquities. This marvelous temple garden features prime examples of

powerful Buddhist and Hindu kingdoms, who ruled much of Sumatra and Java in the 7th

and 8th century AD.

Cycling in Prambanan Complex

Away from the busy traffic and the pollution of the city you discover authentic traditional

Javanese life.

Cylcling through small villages nearby Prambanan passing Lumbung, Bubrah, and Sewu

Temples while enjoying the panorama of seasonal local plantations including the rice

fields, tobacco, sugar cane, mais, tomato, cassavas, chili, egg plants and many others.

In the villages you pass through, daily life goes on, a stop will be made at a local house

to meet the people and you may try out the local harvest. If time permit, visit local

home industry of "Pabrik Tahu" Tofu Making Process to see the production is being

This morning you will enjoy Jogjakarta city tour by visiting the Sultan Palace or Keraton, Taman Sari water castle and bird market. Then Kota Gede with its silversmith. You will have also chance to ride on a becak (pedicab) during city tour. Afterwards drive further to Magelang and visit Borobudur Temple.


Yogyakarta City Tour (Kraton, Taman Sari, Kota Gede)

Explore the typical sights and sounds of Yogyakarta. The city calls itself the vanguard of

Javanese culture. The venerable Sultan`s palace is the centerpiece. Located tight in the

center of town, it is treated with respect by the people of Yogya. Surrounded by white-

clad houses and quiet lanes, there is hardly any traffic in this part of town, where

becaks rule ! Taman Sari as it is called by the locals, is the former pleasure dome of the

Sultans. It features well restored subterranean passage ways, secret chambers and

frivolous ponds. In Kota Gede, the streets are lined with silver factories, ranging from

modest family enterprises to real superstores. What they have in common though, are

skilled hands of mostly older men, producing wonderful home ware and exquisite

jewelry. These days the fine art of batik is produced at the family compounds in villages

surrounding the city. There are very few galleries left in town where the canting and cap

are still handled with great care.

Borobudur , Pawon and Mendut

Borobudur temple, a well-known Buddhist landmark, lies a leisurely drive of one hour

out of Yogyakarta. It is one of the biggest and most impressive monuments ever

erected by mankind, unobtrusively blending in with the splendid background of Menoreh

mountain range. The terraced temple tells the times and lives of the Lord Buddha in well

over 1.500 expressive reliefs. While climbing to the top, the faithful pilgrim received a

full-length set of Buddhist teachings. Thus one can say the Borobudur is a prayer in

stone ! The renovation, finished in the early eighties of last century, sublimely reflects

the will of man to preserve the past. Once enshrined by a wild jungle, it took more than

ten years and great effort to renovate the monument. This gargantuan task got finished

late last century. Now it belongs to one of the finest examples of Buddhist architecture.

Originally Borobudur was part of a chain of four temples joined by a sacred path. Two of

the other three temples have been restored and at those are well worth visiting. The

third one is unfortunately beyond repair. Built in 800 AD, Mendut was rediscovered in

1834 and restored at the end of the nineteenth century as well. The exterior, while

heavily decorated, is unremarkable. The three giant statues sitting inside, however, are

exquisitely carved and marvelously preserved. Originally there were seven statues here;

those that remain are the great three-meter Buddha, who, unusually, sits on a throne

with his legs in front of him rather than in the lotus position, flanked by the

Bodhisattvas Avalokitesvara and Vajrapani. One kilometre west of Mendut, on the banks

of the river is Candi Pawon. This small building is dedicated to the Buddhist god of

fortune, Kuvera. Unlike both Mendut and Borobudur, the temple does not have Hindu

foundations but is wholly Buddhist.

After a very early morning wake-up call, you will start your trip to Mount Bromo, which the locals consider to be sacred. . After a short but steep jeep ride we will take you to a view point to witness a glorious sunrise. Only when the first rays of dawn appear, you realize the splendor of the environment. A wide, rolling sea of sand is enclosed by perpendicular walls of a few hundred meters high. In a shimmering distance you`ll see some of the highest mountain tops of Java.Then you`ll drive into the huge caldera, across a wide open terrain. The final stretch to the base of Mount Bromo. You have to climb a few stairs to have an awesome look into the crater of an active volcano. After Bromo excursion, drive back to hotel and having breakfast then continued driving to Kalibaru approximately 5 - 6 hours drive. It would be a long trip but you still have chances to stop for making pictures or interact with local people if possible. The traffic will be also quite crowded so you might arrive late afternoon.

Kaliklatak Plantation

Some 15 km to the west of Banyuwangi, lies Kaliklatak. This 1000ha privately held and

run plantation is dedicated to coffee, cocoa, rubber clove and spices. Visitors can walk

through century old factories, witnessing the the processing and packing of the crops

Depending on the time of the year, you may be able to see the harvesting of coffee or

cloves. The surroundings at 600 meter above sea level, are magnificent. Palm trees and

tropical rain forest seal the plantation off from the rest of the world. Walking through

the village and past the local school and clinic, one realizes the plantation is completely

self sufficient. Everywhere people will greet you with courteous smiles.

In this area, you will participate in one of the most inspiring trips, possible on Java. Early morning we leave the hotel and drive up to Ijen by 4wd car / jeep. There we start a moderate hike, which will take you in a few hours up to the peak of Mt. Ijen. On the way, you will meet the sulfur people, those tough locals who carry 60 kg baskets, filled with the “yellow gold”. The sulfur mining is done at the base of crater lake, way up. Once you arrive there, the views are truly stunning. Whatever direction you turn, mountain tops peak aloft the clouds. Down at the jade colored lake, seam from deep down below is transformed into yellow crystals… After trekking transfer to Ketapang harbor, in Ketapang we cross the small Java Strait by ferry and reach Bali. From Gilimanuk we will drive to your hotel at Pemuteran. Check in at your hotel and at leisure.


Ijen Mt

Ijen is a fascinating mountain in East Java, very near to the Strait of Bali. It takes a 4wd

jeep drive from the nearest hotel to the base camp from where you can hike all the way

to to the summit. It is an easy trail and path to follow and on the way you meet the

sulfur people. These tough locals carry 80kg baskets, filled with "yellow gold", the result

of a mining process on the top of the mountain near a formidable crater lake. Up on the

rim of this mighty extinct volcano, the views are truly stunning. Whatever direction you

turn, mountain tops peak aloft the clouds. Down at the jade colored lake, steam from

deep down inside the earth is transformed into yellow crystals upon contact with the

atmosphere.

mask and fins. When sailing to the shores of North Bali, the background is dominated by

the blue hue of Bali's central mountain range. The locals appropriately call it the 'Blue

Mountains'•.

Buddhist Monastery - Banjar

In the 6th century Buddhist monks landed and settled in the North of Bali. In general,

the Hindu religion of Bali has a lot of Buddhist influence. The Buddhist monastery of

Banjar is one of the more tranquil ones and comes complete with a lotus pool and

sculptures. It was hit badly by an earthquake in the seventies but resident monks rebuilt

it subsequently. Although visitors are welcome, they are required to to keep noise to a

minimum. This place is more then just a tourist attraction as it is still a place of worship.

The views on the hills surrounding Lovina are extraordinary. The terraced complex has a

few praying rooms with golden Buddha's. On the highest level of the complex you find a

stupa, almost like a small version of the Borobudur in Java.

Banjar Hot Spring

The hot springs from Banjar, are a pleasant one kilometer hike away from the main

road. It is widely believed its water can heal diseases. But it is the natural beauty of the

environment, that make it a well worth trip.

In the morning you'll spend a lovely day in the country side of north Bali. Visit the lakes of central Bali in an unusual way. We have programmed a diverse hike, leading to some unusual locations. Visit Munduk waterfall before return to your hotel and rest of the day free at leisure.


Lake Tamblingan Trekking

Situated at about 1.200 meters above sea level, with mighty Mount Catur rising from its

eastern shore, the climate in Lake Tamblingan is pleasantly cool all year round.

Noteworthy is the Pura Ulun Danu, place of worship for the Goddess of the lake as the

source of water for Bali. Combining typical Hindu and Buddhist temple architecture, it is

one of the most photographed temples of Bali. Moreover, it acquired the status of a

kayangan jagat or directional temple, meaning it is revered by all Balinese across the

island. Along wide highlands and strawberry farms, the road lead even further up into

the mountains. After soaking up the spectacular view of the twin lakes of Buyan and

Tamblingan, start your trek descending into the rain forest and learn how many of the

local tropical plants have a medicinal use. On an open site in the forest sits almost

unexpected the eerie Pura Dalem Tambingan which is dedicated the deceased ancestors.

Continue downwards until you reach Pura Ulun Danu Tamblingan, dedicated to the

Goddess of Lake Tamblingan. From this point, the view to the lake with the surrounding

lush rain forest is inspiring. A short boat ride on a traditional wooden canoe brings you

to the other lake shore. Very few people venture out into this direction. During your trip

it is so quiet you can hear the birds singing. Foreste slopes seal off this area from the

rest of the world. On last leg of the trip, stroll along Pura Gubug, a masterly designed

Hindu temple. Merus with an uneven number of pagoda roofs, rise from behind the

temple`s twin gate entrance. This is a unique and quite rarely visited holy place!

Munduk Village

Not far away from Lovina, a sleepy villages nestles high up in the mountain range

dividing Bali. Munduk is the perfect spot to make short, pleasant hikes and take in the

beauty of North Bali. A stroll past forests, idyllic ricefields, lush waterfall and blooming is

quite pleasant at an altitude of some 1.000m. No wonder, the community of Munduk

actively supports projects emphasizes environmental preservation. On this track, you

will enjoy stunning views.

Ulun Danu sits at the shores of Lake Bratan, the source of water for a large part of the

island. It effortlessly combines Hindu and Buddhist elements into a unique sample of

Balinese temple architecture The location on the shore of the giant lake effectively filling

a crater formed thousands of years ago by a seismic blast of an extinct volcano, is

significant. The lake supplies most of the drinkable water to large areas of Bali. Dense

pine forests tumble down the slopes of Mount Bratan to the calm shoreline dotted with

holy shrines.

Jatiluwih

A startlingly beautiful area of verdant, terraced rice paddies nestled in the shadow of

Mount Batukaru, the second highest peak of Bali and one of the holiest In 2007 this

area was nominated as a UNESCO world heritage site.

Taman Ayun Temple

Located in Mengwi, the 17th century royal temple sheds a magnificent light on the

principles of traditional Balinese temple architecture. Very few other temples were

constructed along such `ideal` lines. Three terraces blend harmoniously into one

another, each of them representing different worlds, dedicated to the Negative and

Positive Forces in the universe and the relationship between both. Candi bentars, the

typical Balinese split temple gates, separate them from one another. The complex is

surrounded by a beautiful pond, adding to the elegance of the place. The last and

highest court, dedicated to the Gods, is only accessible for Hindus, but by walking

around, you have an excellent view on the meru`s with their uneven roofs, a

quintessential element of Balinese architecture.

Tirta Gangga Water Palace

Located at Ababi village, Abang distric, East Bali, Tirtagangga lies less than 100km

fromthe capital city Denpasar. This water garden was built in 1948 by the King of

Karangasem, Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem, blending Balinese and Chinese

styles. In the late forties of the last century, this was a playful weekend retreat for one

of the last raja`s of Bali. There are enough water basins, fountains and bizarre statues

to charm you, while the surroundings are pretty and quiet. The water comes from one of

the nearby natural springs. The place has always been regarded as holy. Tirta means

blessed water, gangga cames from Ganges, the holy river in India. The holy water is

required for ceremonies of the temples in the surrounding as far as Tirtagangga. The

springs have a huge output of pure water. The water is first led to a reservoir where it is

divided in two parts. One third provides drinking water for the town Amlapura. The

remainder goes into the upper swimming pool through an underground pipe. The

overflow of water goes into the lower swimming pool, the other ponds and finally into

the rice fields.

Tenganan hike

This morning we will take you a village high in the mountains and start a descent

through beautifully landscaped rice terraces and rarely visited villages. The path leads

towards Tenganan, home of the original inhabitants of Bali. All the way down, there is

an inviting sight of the deep blue Indian Ocean right in front of you. After an inspiring

hike, you reach Tenganan, one of several ancient villages in Bali, which people who call

themselves `Bali Aga`. A high wall surrounding their village, adds to the self-chosen

isolation of this community, adhering to strict principles. This place is world famous for

its ikat. These textiles, the result of a very complicated form of weaving. While ikat may

be common in East Indonesia, it was raised to perfection in Tenganan. Lombok, Sumba

and Flores have similar products, but the intricate cloth of Tenganan is attributed with

mystical powers. The Bali Aga are convinced that old gringsing will protect its owner

from disease.

Indonesia has now opened 29 airports/ 88 seaports for foreigners to obtain the free

visa, effective of 10 May 2016. Almost all existing airports/seaports are included, but for

- Free visa is for citizen of countries which are entitled for free visa.

- Passport of all visitors need be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry in

Indonesia.
