Mission

Dear Friends of Alverno High School,

We are very happy to announce that Alverno High School, once again, has received the six-year maximum accreditation term from WCEA (the Western Catholic Education Association), WASC (the Western Association of Schools and Colleges) and CAIS (the California Association of Independent Schools). This is an achievement that we can all be proud of, as it acknowledges the strength of our program, the accomplishments of our students, the dedication of our teachers and the commitment of our parents, alumnae and Board of Trustees. This accreditation demonstrates that Alverno is doing exactly what it has set out to do to fulfill our mission: to empower each young woman to be exactly the person she wants to be.

Last year, we launched the first phase of our Master Plan, which was the beautification of the campus perimeter on Michillinda and Grandview Avenues. I am pleased to announce that we successfully raised over $205,000 and completed the project in October of this year. We have received dozens of compliments from both the Alverno and Sierra Madre community. Thank you to all of our donors and a special thanks to several classes, along with individual alumnae, and current and past parents, who adopted a pillar. We will be installing plaques identifying our special donors on their pillar. A few pillars remain to be adopted if you would like to recognize your class, your daughter, or your family.

As you can see from the photo below, we are taking down the Phase I sign. This is also symbolic in that Ms. Julia Fanara, as the Head Elect, will be carrying the torch to complete the rest of the Master Plan in the future. The Board of Trustees is currently reviewing funding options for Phase II, which is the construction of the new soccer/softball field, a field restroom and new parking lots. This year marks a year of transition between the old and the new. On July 1st Ms. Fanara will assume her new position as Head of School and Ms. Gillick will begin to enjoy her retirement!
