Kurt Sonderegger, VP Marketing, Ploom.com

“Social media is like water. On its own, water does some cool things, but when combined with other compounds it enabled the evolution of all forms of life.
Social media on its own is nice, but when combined with other tools, it is enabling everything to evolve, from communications to business to politics to marketing.”
Mike Volpe, VP Marketing, Hubspot

How to do an event
![Page 18: Alumni senate-social-media-2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051818/54bba5c34a79597b048b45e1/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
How to do an event
Great: - multiple channels - up to date - the right information - MOST IMPORTANT The event itself is great
Could be better: - website not up to date - event is too PC - no questions - no feedback - no personality
![Page 19: Alumni senate-social-media-2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051818/54bba5c34a79597b048b45e1/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
How to raise funds
What’s expected: - Sharing stories of what funds do - Getting an online donation form - When they donate, they should be able to share the news
![Page 20: Alumni senate-social-media-2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051818/54bba5c34a79597b048b45e1/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
How to start a conversation and keep it going
Myths:You talk too much.
Truth:You can’t talk too much. It takes three touches for things to sink in.
![Page 21: Alumni senate-social-media-2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051818/54bba5c34a79597b048b45e1/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
How to start a conversation and keep it going
Myths:When someone comments, don’t response back or make a comment. Someone else will take care of it.
Truth:24/7 (within reason), you should be ready to comment or response. This is customer service.
![Page 22: Alumni senate-social-media-2011](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051818/54bba5c34a79597b048b45e1/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
How to start a conversation and keep it going
Myths:If someone says something bad, it will effect everyone.
Truth:When someone says something bad, you should pay attention. Response timely. Then get it offline (or on email). Only ban in an extreme case. Ask me about my trick to get rid of problems.

How to start a conversation and keep it going
Myths:I don’t have time to do this in all the different areas.
Truth:It’s not as bad as it seems – once you do a couple and get down a system, it’s easy (and fun).
