3) 2014 Athletics Hall of Fame
Marymount University is proud to announce its ninth Athletics Hall ofFame class, to be inducted on Saturday, May 10, 2014. Four Saintsstandouts women’s volleyball’s Mary Carroll ‘05, women’s basketball’sKatie Jarvis ‘04, women’s swimming’s Nina Kuziel ‘06, and men’slacrosse’s Garth Little ‘94 will be inducted , while longtime women’sbasketball assistant coach Steve Wicker will be honored in the Hall of Friends. 4) MU Business Student Awarded Mares AccountingScholarship
Katelyn Fischer, a senior at Marymount University, is therecipient of the annual Michael E. Mares Scholarship,established by PBMares, LLP, and presented by theVirginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA)Educational Foundation. Katelyn says, “I was very excitedto be awarded the $2,000 scholarship, which is helping mewith my final year’s tuition. In May 2014, I will graduatewith a Bachelor of Business Administration inAccounting.”
She learned of the scholarship through Marymount’sSaints Being Saints mentorship program, which pairscurrent students with alumni. Katelyn explains,” The
mentorship program is great. I really give lots of credit to Thomas Chin ’99, my alummentor, who has been a guiding influence through my college years. He not only told meabout the VSCPA scholarship, he provided résumé advice and, most importantly, helpedme prepare for and get an internship at PricewaterhouseCoopers. And from the internship, Ireceived a fulltime job offer to start after graduation!” Read more…
5) Give MU A 5!
Student callers are hard at work as this year's fall Phoneathonis underway. To date, 365 alumni have made a gift or pledge,bringing the total pledged to over $19,000. The goal is toreceive 450 pledges. Will you answer the call and "Give MU A5"? To make your gift, please click here.
6) Freshmen Participate in Annual DC Scavenger Hunt
To an outoftown tourist, it might have looked like the“Marymount March on the Mall,” when more than 100MU freshmen in Management 123 classes (a requiredcourse for business majors) gathered on the NationalMall for the annual DC Scavenger Hunt. Thisintroduction to the capital city provides an innovativeand fun way to learn about DC resources and culturalofferings, while also serving as a teambuilding andproblemsolving experience.
The hunt sent students sleuthing in the museums lining the National Mall to find answers toclues. Their search took them to some offthebeaten track exhibits. The more obscure theclue, the higher the point value. Read more...

8) Marymount CFO Challenges Department to Give, and Gets a Pie in the Face
Each year, Marymount's faculty and staff raise funds tosupport student scholarships. In 2012, Dr. Ralph Kidder,CFO and vice president for Financial Affairs, issued achallenge to his division to give to the Faculty and StaffFund. He promised that if 56% of his department made agift, he would let someone throw a pie at him. 66% of hisdivision gave, which surpassed his challenge.
On October 25, it was time for Dr. Kidder to hold up his endof the deal. Raffle tickets were purchased for the chance tothrow the pie, and Dr. Sherri Hughes, provost and vicepresident for Academic Affairs, came out with the winningticket. The rest, you will have to watch in the video...clickhere!
