Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God – January 1, 2012 How lightly Mary held Jesus. She did not clutch Him to her but held Him out for the world to know. She knew that He did not belong to her alone. From the moment of His birth she was called upon to share Him with strangers who flocked to see Him. In the same way, we are also called to hold our blessings lightly, being willing to share what God has given to us with those whom God may lead to us. As this New Year begins, let us look to Mary as a grace-filled model of sharing all that God might ask of us. SOLEMNITY OF MARY, THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD First Reading: Numbers 6:22-27 The Lord told Aaron to bestow his blessings on the Israelites. God wanted them to know that by invoking his name they would be blessed by him. Second Reading: Galatians 4:4-7 Paul describes how through Jesus' birth, we have been delivered from the laws that exiled Gentiles from God's community. Through Jesus, the Gentiles became God's adopted ones and would receive the same blessings that the Jewish converts had been promised. Gospel: Luke 2:16-21 The shepherds went to Bethlehem to see Jesus and immediately understood all that they had been told about him. They praised God for what they had seen, and Jesus was given the name that the angel had chosen for him.

Message From Our Lady of Victories for Life An early Christmas present was received December 19th! There are people from respect life groups who pray at abortion mills, and also try to help mothers choose Life for their babies if they are willing to listen. A car pulled up to the sidewalk in front of the Woodbridge abortion mill December 19th. Two young women were in it. They sat in the car for about a minute talking and gathering up things. Then the passenger got out. We were afraid that she was going into the abortion mill. Instead, she approached one of the men who prays there. In her hand, she had a box wrapped in green paper with a bow. It was a Christmas present for him. She stayed for a while thanking him for helping her. One could see that she was well along in her pregnancy. As she left we asked her to come back with her baby and she said that she would. A perfect Christmas present for all of us. Joy! Praise God! Blessings and peace!

A New Year’s Prayer

Lord, this year I want to change, and I’ve said that in the past, but now my prayer is different

‘cause I understand at last.

I wanted my own way before, I ignored your loving plans.

But now I’m putting everything into your nail-scarred hands.

I promise to obey you,

out of gratitude and love. I won’t be giving orders to my Father up above.

I finally realized the truth,

and so I’ve changed my prayer. The safest place for me to be

is in your gentle care.

Please be my shepherd, Jesus, that’s all I ask of you.

In good times and in bad this year, take my hand and lead me through.

Amen
