    Gene Falcon has been involved in various aspects of human resources and business developmentfor over 20 years. His experience includes working at several Big Four in a recruiting and client

    service capacity, and working at corporations of varying sizes in business development and/or salespositions. Gene will be discussing the dos and donts during an interview.

    My ALPFA Story

    by Arianna Monserrat

    Vice-President of Finance

    Hi, my name is Arianna Monserrat and I am truly honored to be your Vice-President of Finance for Spring 2011. When I start to think about how ALPFA has

    impacted me, many things come to mind; family, networking, personal growth,

    professional development, achieving goals, leadership, and so much more. I often think

    how much I have changed, for the better because of ALPFA, from the way I talk, dress,

    and represent myself. I love ALPFA because it is an easy way to network with

    companies, meet new people, challenge yourself, and reach the goals I want. I joined lastsemester, and with the help and motivation of my ALPFA family, I took the challenge of

    becoming the first VP of Finance. I am so proud and happy to have obtained this position.

    ALPFA is not only about professional development, resume critiques, mockinterviews, career fairs, workshops (which all are a great help for your careers). It is

    much more than that. Once I started to network, meet people, enjoy the socials, and

    create a bigger circle of friends; thats when I knew that ALPFA is not only for

    professional development, it is for personal grow as well. I describe ALPFA as a gatewayof opportunities. It is up to you to take advantage of all those opportunities; become

    active and get involved. Trust me, all your hard work WILL pay off. So get involved, be

    motivated; do it for YOU.

    Last Week in ALPFA FIU

    This past week members were exposed to Christopher Houseman, Big 4 accounting firmDeloitte, and Wachovia, a financial services provider.

    Christopher Houseman is a FIU alumni and Graduate Advisor, past ALPFA FIU President,2010 ALPFA National Student of the Year, PwC Associate, and former Best Buy Manager.

    Chris spoke to members about the recruitment process and gave some great suggestionsas to the dos and donts during the process.

    Deloitte, one the Big 4 Accounting firms, brought an array professionals. TaxPartner Geoffrey Horst spoke about his experience with the firm. Even ALPFAs own AliVayani and Teresa Hernandez were present, and spoke about their experiences as current

    Interns. During the presentation, they discussed the firms history, lines of services,available positions , and Deloitte University. Deloitte University is a new state-of-the-artlearning center located in Texas. Afterwards, members had the opportunity to network

    with professionals while enjoying candy!Wachovia, one of the largest financial institutions, presented to our Finance

    members. Three speakers were at hand to talk to students about the different job tasksand their daily activities. Many students learned the difference between a Financial Analyst,Advisor, Representative, and Personal Banker. It was a very informational meeting, including

    Wachovia giveaways. Member also had the chance to network with the professionals.Additionally, we had the first opportunity to fundraise for ALPFA! Over 20 ALPFA

    members volunteered their time to wash cars at Checkers (located on 107th Ave and SW8th St) this past Sunday, February 6th. The funds raised will be used to fund ALPFA FIUs

    annual to our National Convention to be held in Anaheim, California!

    following:

    Pain relievers (Tylenol, Aspirin, Advil)Cold and flu medication

    Topical medication (hydrocortisone creme, anti-fungal cremes)Multi-Vitamins for adults and children

    ThermometersBand-Aids

    Anti-inflammatoryOral hygiene (toothbrush, toothpaste)

    School supplies (pencils, notebooks, color pencils, erasers, etc.)

    Items will be collected during this Fridays, February 11th, meeting
