Aloha From Haunani
Transcript of Aloha From Haunani
What do you think of when you hear the name Hawaii...soft tropical breezes, spar- kling sun-kissed beaches, incredibly clear blue water? They are all part of that ex- quisite Pacific paradise. But there is some- thing else unmistakably Hawaiian—and that is its music! The music of Hawaii is like no other in the world, and nowhere does it achieve more perfect expression than in the voice of Haunani, the First Lady of Hawaiian Song,
Haunani’s many talents are familiar to Islanders and mainlanders alike. She is Hawaii’s top-ranking singing star, possessor of a rich, lyrical voice and a commanding physical presence. She is also a musical historian, having composed several songs in the Island idiom that are now standards in Hawaiian repertoire. Most of all, Haunani is the foremost interpreter of Hawaiian music, lending to all the songs she sings the authenticity and understanding that only a native Hawaiian can convey.
ALOHA FROM HAUNANTL is like a fra- grant lei from Hawaii, each song a delicate
FROM
AUNAN!1 flower that weaves a spell of enchantment. Listen to the lovely strains of Maui Moon, Hawaiian Honeymoon, Aloha, Until Tomor- row, E Maliu Mai, I Wish They Didn’t Mean Goodbye, and the many others in this album, and you too will be captivated by the special Hawaiian magic. Featured with Haunani are native musicians and singers, all of whom contribute to that distinctive Hawaiian sound.
The popularity of Hawaiian music is no accident: it is the result of the warmth, amiability and genuineness of the Hawaiian people themselves—qualities that pervade the entire atmosphere of the Islands and are happily mirrored in the music itself.
Haunani is perhaps the classic personifi- cation of all that is best about Hawaii, and no one could be more deserving of the love and respect that are lavished upon her
wherever she performs. ALOHA FROM HAUNANL is your invitation to share in the good life of Hawaii—your first-class ticket to that Shangri-la we happily number as our 50th State. | Judith Tane
