Parents, students and staff enjoyed the opportunity to witness the beginning of our leaders’ journey for 2021. I would like to thank both Mrs Justine Finter and our wonderful P&C for their assistance in making this a memorable assembly for our student leaders. I know the school community will join me in wishing them all the best. NEW PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT We will be opening the new play equipment this week after the temporary fencing has been removed. Our students are eagerly anticipating the opening of this area and are excited to experience this new area. Once again I would like to thank the ongoing support of our P&C committee for making this dream a reality. CLASS MEETING Our teachers have been opening their doors and welcoming parents in for a whole class meeting this week and I hope you have taken the opportunity to come in and meet your teacher and other parents. This is a great time to hear what your student will be learning about throughout the year and the focus for each subject area, rules and routines as well as expectations around homework and home reading. I look forward to seeing you throughout the school during this time. REMINDERS ABSENCES The safety and wellbeing of students are the highest priorities of Education Queensland. Schools need to know when and why a child is absent and parents/carers need to know if their child hasn’t turned up for school. This is why we will continue to send our daily SMS texts to families who have children away on an unexplained absence. Please advise the school by one of the contacts listed below, when your child is not at school. Reply to the SMS message sent by school, report the absence on the QParents app or by phoning the office as soon as possible (A message can be left at any time). Parents/Carers of children who have unexplained absences will be contacted by the school to provide an explanation. LATE ARRIVAL TO SCHOOL If students arrive late to school they are required to come to the office before heading to the classroom to register the absence and receive a Late Arrival slip which will update the class roll. 2021 Term Dates Term 1 27 Jan - 1 April Term 2 19 Apr - 25 June Term 3 12 July - 17 Sept Term 4 5 Oct - 10 Dec

REMINDERS

PROOF OF BIRTH

Parents enrolling students in a Queensland State School for the first time (usually in Prep) MUST provide proof of birth. This is best done by bringing a birth certificate or birth extract to the office when lodging enrolment forms. An enrolment cannot be confirmed or accepted (children cannot attend

school) until the proof of birth is provided.

2nd HAND UNIFORMS

If you have any unwanted uniforms or shoes we would love them. Please drop them into the office. Your generosity would

be greatly appreciated.

CHANGE OF CLOTHES

Please ensure your child has a change of clothes and underwear in their school bag each day in case of toileting accidents.

SCHOOL MEDICATION If your child needs to take medication (e.g. Tablets, Ventolin Puffer etc.) at school, parents are required to complete a Medication Form before staff are permitted to administer the

medication to the student.

Parents/caregivers of students who require ongoing medication for 2021 will need to complete a new medication form for this year. This includes Epipens and Asthma Puffers (even if the student has the puffer in their bag or classroom and can administer the puffer themselves). The school needs to be aware of what medication is on school

grounds.

If a new form is not completed for 2021 then staff are not permitted to administer any medication without this updated

information. Forms are available from the office.

Instructions for administering medication MUST be written on the medication container provided by the pharmacist at the doctor’s request. The instructions on the medication container MUST indicate the dosage and frequency that it is to be administered.

LOST PROPERTY

Please ensure all your child’s belongings are clearly named. Many of these items go missing during the school day and quite a few are left behind in the eating areas. If each item is named, it makes it much easier to find its owner.

Lost Property is located downstairs in A Block.

SWIMMING

You should, by now, have received a letter about the start of

school swimming for 2021.

Please be fully aware – swimming is a part of the

Health and Physical Education (HPE) curriculum and is a COMPULSORY activity in Queensland schools. Students are expected to swim in their allotted class time unless ill, injured

or absent from school.

It is timely to remind you that our school has a policy of earrings not being allowed to be worn in the pool. If this

causes concerns for you please contact the school office.

Finally, we are unable to allow classes to enter the pool unless we meet strict supervision ratios. We cannot release enough teachers and teacher aides to meet these ratios in the lower year levels in particular. Therefore, we rely on parent helpers. You do not have to be prepared to enter the pool – spotters on the side are just as useful. Please help us to not have to cancel any class lessons due to lack of supervision. Make your child’s class teacher, or Mrs Dow (HPE teacher) aware if you can help. Find the updated attached the swimming timetable

later in this newsletter.
