TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

*Inspiration for the Week *

Pope Francis constantly reminds us of the wideness of God’s mercy and its unconditional character. God is always patiently loving his children and opening the doors to his heart. We must, however, freely chose to accept God’s in-vitation and join in the feast of his love. We desire many things and we have restless hearts. We often attempt to

quench our desire with things that are short-lived and shal-low. All of us long to be satisfied and at peace. How do we announce to the world, in ways that are convincing and without judgment, that it is really God whom we seek?

Dear Parishioners: This past weekend our community suffered a tremendous loss with the passing of our beloved Trudy Daly. Recently appointed to the position of Pastoral Minister for our com-munity, she had the wellbeing of all of us close to her heart. As a long standing exceptionally devoted parishioner of St. Augustine, her parish meant everything to her. Our recent merger into the Community of Saints Isidore and Maria in-spired her to think of creative new possibilities about how our once separate communities could bring the best of both together as one. It was very important to Trudy that every-one feel included. You could not attend Mass at St. Augustine Church without seeing Trudy working her magic in the sacristy preparing everyone for liturgy. I used to joke with her and kid her about no one being able to come through the doors of the sacristy without receiving marching orders from the Com-mander in Chief! Trudy had my complete trust and confi-dence and she had a tremendous pulse on community life….it’s blessings and weaknesses. I do not think that there is anything within the realm of parish life that Trudy did not do at one point or another and everything was done as a labor of love. She loved our Lord and she loved her companions on her journey of faith. We are all created as unique works of God’s love. He takes the care, love and concern necessary to make us who we are. We are where we are for a purpose and we are each given one unique chance at life. We are irreplaceable. Trudy is irreplaceable. The distinctive twist she brought to life, especially her life in the church cannot be recreated by another; it was hers and hers alone. The strength of her

faith prepared her to encounter this next journey of her life. It is a journey that brings her to her true and lasting home; a

home built on the everlasting foundation of God’s uncondi-tional love and mercy. We trust that she has now discov-ered the fullness of her life in God and has been reunited with all those who have gone before her, especially her be-loved husband Jerry. Trudy, the words “thank you” seem empty as a verbal at-tempt to even remotely express our gratitude. We love you. We will miss you. Yet, we know the road you have now traveled is a road that we are all on together and that our ultimate joy and hope is to find ourselves one day face to face with God in the fulfillment of our everlasting home. May the angels lead you into paradise! May the martyrs come to welcome you and take you to the holy city the new and eternal Jerusalem! May choirs of angels welcome you and lead you to the bosom of Abraham and where Lazarus is poor no longer, may you now find eternal rest! Be at peace, dear Trudy, until we all meet again. Until then, keep the choirs of heaven in line and all affairs of heaven properly organized!

Our Doors Are Open!

There is an old, wonderful tradition of stopping at church to “make a visit” – even when there is no liturgy scheduled – during the day. You can do that here: both St. Augustine and St. Paul are open from 6:00am until 8:00pm – every day! At St. Augustine, the ramp door on the parking lot side of the church is always open during those hours. A wall switch to the right as you enter the church proper (not the vestibule) will turn on the two front lights, if needed. At Saint Paul, use the handicapped-access door on the far left front, near the handicapped parking spaces, if you’re visiting very early or late. (Sanctuary lights are al-ways on during the hours the church is open.) And all St. Paul doors open at 8:00am – sooner if Mass is scheduled. Jesus is always there. Stop by to talk with Him!

We wish to thank all parishioners and friends who helped in so many ways to provide a nourishing dinner to the home-less at ImmaCare Shelter on Friday, October 6. The resi-dents of the shelter - as always - expressed grateful appreci-ation for the ample and delicious food served. Please help us as we continue to assist the homeless and hungry at monthly dinners. The next dinner is scheduled for FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10. As always, we are in need of food, provisions, monetary donations, and service assistance.
