ALINJARRA PRIMARY SCHOOL Dear Parents and Caregivers We have been enjoying the fabulous autumn weather and making the most of these glorious days. The students at Alinjarra Primary School are lucky to have a group of dedicated teachers making sure they have every opportunity to learn across all areas of the curriculum. The best part of my day is vising classes and seeing how engaged they are in their learning. To ensure that all students receive a well-rounded educaon we look for ways to support them to develop great strategies for idenfying and responding appropriately to their emoons—self-regulaon. The lovely welcoming feel that exists at Alinjarra highlights the importance of being involved in your childrens schooling. Our students at Alinjarra PS have a strong sense of belonging, are movated to learn and work hard to be successful at school. We are always exploring new ways to enhance partnerships, communicaon and opportunies for parents to help out around the school. This term we are looking for parents who would be interested in volunteering 30 minutes of their me, two mornings a week (Monday and Wednesday) to provide reading support for a group of students. A training workshop will take place before the program begins. If you are interested please let us know by popping into the office and pung your name down or you can email us at: [email protected] We look forward to being able to offer Support-A-Reader sessions for students to enjoy reading and develop some excellent reading strategies over the year. BIKE SAFETY It was lovely to see so many of our students and families walking or riding to school last Friday, as its a great way to stay fit and healthy. Its also a good opportunity to remind everyone about the importance of wearing helmets every me you ride a bike or scooter, even if you are only going for a short ride. While bike riding can be fun, accidents do happen. The way to minimise the risk of serious injury is by wearing a helmet. This provides protecon for the face, head and brain if you are involved in an accident. Remember: A helmet should fit you properly, not too small and not too big; The straps should always be fastened. It should be snug enough that you cannot twist it on your head or pull it off; A hat should not be worn underneath your helmet; and If you fall down and your helmet is used to protect you—you should get a new one. NATURE PLAY The nature play area at Alinjarra Primary School is a wonderful place for our students to play creavely in a natural environment. They have the chance to explore nature with their friends or on their own. They problem solve, take calculated risks and even somemes experience what can be called happy accidents. These unexpected accidents make a difference to the way they look at things and react to situaons and the world around them. The nature play area is a perfect outdoor classroom for children to interact with nature and creavely use their imaginaon—like we used to do when we were kids—how lucky are they? It is fascinang to watch our students playing in the nature play ground and to listen to their conversaons as their imaginaons run wild. Have a look the back page for more photos of our students enjoying the nature space. FRIENDSHIP Newsleer | No 7 | 22 May 2018 Building resilience in children is not about making them tough.
