Space Systems: ASEOArab Satellite constellation for Earth Observation
On the proposition of his Excellency the Algerian President, at the 17thArab conference in Algiers (Marsh 2005), the leaders of Arab leaguedecided to go for an Arab Satellite Constellation for EarthObservation.
The future Arab satellite constellation will be used for:
• territory planning.• environment & majors disaster risks.• water resources.• agriculture and forest.• mines resources & oil.• fishing resources.• transportation.

Space Systems: ASEOArab Satellite constellation for Earth Observation
A constellation of three (3) earth observation satellites was retained and the technical requirements were identified at the Algiers workshop which was done in June 2006.
On August 2008, seven (07) countries from the Arab league expressed some remarks about the technical study and the execution plan of the project.
The project is being supported by six countries (Algeria, Egypt, Syria, Yemen, Tunisia, Libya).
On march 2009, the Arab league installed an “ad‐hoc” committee constituted of Foreign Affairs Ministries, in charge of putting‐on the ideal execution conditions of the project.

Space Application Projects:
Earth observation: for a better knowledge of naturalresources and their environment, prevention andmanagement of major risks (natural and industrial…);
Satellite communications: broadcasting and fixed services;
Satellite positioning: (GPS, Glonass, Galileo) developingnetworks essential for basic mapping, seismic monitoringand auscultation of infrastructures.
22
Space research projects:
ASAL implement the National Research Program on space technologies in thefollowing fields:
Micro satellites technology;
Space communications;
Space instrumentation;
Space geodesy;
Remote sensing and satellite image processing;
Geo‐spatial information.
In its implementation, this program emphasizes on research network entities(centre, units, laboratories and teams) and on other national researchprograms (agriculture, water resources, environment, telecommunication,health…).
To train engineers in different area of space activities: Academic training : Masters or PhDs, which could bedone within local universities or throughout internationalcooperation framework.
On the job activities : know how technology transfer.
