A.C Laki Lead Designer Director Perfection Studios Co. 3456 Main Street Beverly Hills, CA 29013

Dear to whom it may concern,

Since the beginning of 8th grade I’ve been a head editor in yearbook. rough the past few years I’ve taken more opportunities handed to me to allow myself to advance in graphic design. I would love to apply for an internship this summer because the advancement in this area really is an interest to me.

As a page layout designer and part time photographer, I have mastered skills in photoshop, Jostens, and InDesign. I have never applied to do an internship at any other location, however I have been invited to yearbook camps over the past few summers which targeted areas that I could have more growth in. My capabilities to understand several programs would allow me to succeed in this internship you’re o ering.

ough I’ve never done an internship, this opportunity wasn’t something I was willing to pass up. A er producing 4 yearbooks I’ve had a role in, my interest for a graphic design lead career has really excelled. With my full e ort set forth on any duty I was designed, everything I’ve ever handed in was with my full capability. I am willing to make changes and set schedules that will meet expectations to your company whenever need be, even if that means going out of my way to do so.

I appreciate you considering me for your internship, even when you haven’t seen my work yet. Perhaps when we have an interview in person I’ll bring some of the latest things to share with you. I have attached a detailed resume of my experience and further qualifacations. I appreciate your consideration, and look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Respectfully yours,

Alexis Wilson

My most beloved piece of work has to be the page I put together for the JV football team this last fall. When I started with the page I started o with a blank template and as I began to place photos I messed with design. With the progress, I begun to insert captions, copy, and info-graphics. When I had everything I wanted to be done n-ished, I created a background that tied the page together without being too busy and clustered. When I started the page I was pushing for time because the deadline was in two weeks, but I still managed to spend extra class peri-ods to nish it to my full capability. In the end, my nal edit was complete, and I can honestly say that I used all the skills I have learned the past three years to complete a page in a matter of days.

Reflection on something I could

IMRPOVE rough my sophomore year in yearbook, there are many things I worked with that I am very proud of. However, there are a couple things I wish I could go back and change. Even though this year in yearbook seemed liked deadlines would appear back to back, time pressure was still a major thing I struggled to manage. With over 8 spreads assigned to my group, we worked together on multiple pages at once in order to make the deadline. With that in mind, there were a few spreads that I wish I would have spent more time one. For example, on our deadline 2b we were assigned three di erent spreads, one being “Tech Center”. is page didn’t even get touched until the week it was due, there-for we had no pictures or copy to place on the page. With only four days to complete the page, we had to improvise and change the purpose of the page. e page was turned to a cool class spread where we were required to go and take pictures of cool things happening around the classrooms in one day. e page was rushed to put together so in complete honesty, it wasn’t done to the best of my ability, or my teams. If I could change anything about the page it would be the variety of pictures chosen, as well as the layout of the page. When I went through to place pic-tures I didn’t have time to critique everything, which I now look back on it and wish I would have spent a little more time on it. Even though the page was rushed to complete, the end result wasn’t too ter-rible. But in the end, I’ve learned to spend just a little more time on focusing and laying out a page before you’re crunched for a deadline.

Self analytical evaluation

Beginning yearbook my 7th grade year has been far one of the wisest deci-sions I have and will ever make. rough the process of understanding and developing key factors has really had an impact on other decisions I have made. With di erent experiences with multiple programs, my broad un-derstanding of several key things has really made a change in my everyday thinking.

is year in yearbook has really critiqued my understanding of layout and graphic design. rough the course, I’ve come to realize that yearbook isn’t only about designing and throwing pages together to sell to the entire school; it’s about working together as a team with a similar idea in mind to complete something to its full potential. ough individual jobs were assigned this year, the value of teamwork goes a long ways in the real world.

Even with a yearbook as the nal product, the process of putting it together required a lot of time, e ort, and work. One of my proudest designs as be-ing a layout designer was my nal product of the JV Football team’s page. A er putting together a simple design and lling in what was required, I was able to move and replace certain things so that the page looked more origi-nal, but as well as being synchronized and similar to the idea represented throughout the rest of the book. During this course, my time and dedication really showed when I turned in my nal pages. With no doubt, this was one of the most valuable courses I had taken this year as a sophomore. Even when coming to Borah start of second quarter, I was welcomed and learned new things my very rst day. Some of the most important concepts I have learned this year had to of been to keep an open mind, and that their are always new possibilities.

Now youK N O W . . . How to make a crepe:Ingredients- 1 cup all purpose fl our2 eggs1/2 cup of milk1/2 cup of water2 tablespoons butter, melted1 teaspoon salt

DirectionsIn a large mixing bowl, whisk together the fl our and the eggs. Gradually add in the milk and water, stirring to combine. Add the salt and butter; beat until smooth.Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approxi-mately 1/4 cup for each crepe. Tilt the pan with a circular motion so that the batter coats the surface evenly.Cook the crepe for about 2 minutes, until the bottom is light brown. Loosen with a spatula, turn and cook the other side. Serve hot.

FastFACTS Though football games usually last around 3 hours, the ball is typically in play for only 11 minutes.

Injured football players in televised NFL get six more seconds of camera time than celebrating players.

The fi eld’s yellow line fi rst-down marker costs $20,000 per football TV broadcast, or $5,120,000 during a regular season.

Reflection on my best infographics

In the process of completing deadlines and ful lling require-ments on every page, I was able to better understand and grasp di erent meanings of several things that could potentially ll the page in a deeper meaning. rough the year, I helped put together many infographics and fun little side notes that brought the page together with the theme of the book. For example, on the 2015 drag racing page, I had to overcome layout guidelines in order to t collages and quotes on the page. rough the process I struggled with picture layouts and crowd-ing the page, but in the end the page truly turned out better than I had expected and thus was something I would proud of. With the collages I used I felt as if a quote would help tie in the theme with the page a little more and add that extra some-thing. With a great team comes heartaches and victories, but in the end something more valuable than winning is formed, which allows a theme of ‘can’t tame the beast’ appear within the page it-self. In the end, I was able to focus on the page and not make it to where it looked clustered. rough my process I can now say I learned how to battle through obstacles in a matter of time with-out giving up on something that has massive potential.

Reflection on my contribution to yearbook rough my experience of being part of the 2014-2015 year-book committee, I believe some of my brighter ideas have really been applied to the yearbook and in one way or another contrib-uted to the success of the book all together. Whether being a layout designer or copywriter, I believe I put my full e ort into whatever I was assigned and completed it to my best ability. Joining the Borah yearbook sta the middle of 2nd quarter was really challenging for me. Being assigned my rst day to complete a deadline the following week with a spread I had never even known about was di cult to ful ll with no prior exposure. at week, I constantly asked questions about the theme, fonts, requirements, colors.. etc.. in order to do everything in my power to meet the deadline. When I joined my new smaller team within the yearbook sta , it was hard for me to push them to complete their work to get done in time for me to put the entire page together. Day a er day I be-came more con dent in what I wanted to accomplish. However, still having to remind people to nish their jobs for the page was still really aggravating to say the least. With the ups and downs this year, I fully believe I was able to contribute my full e ort into the 2015 Safari and understand regu-lations more than ever. Even with being a late bloomer into the sta , my ideas were still valued and the layouts and copy I completed were done to the best of my ability.
