Hi folks,
Yes! Its a new year, so hear me out. Today I walked alone in Corvallis doing the new walk designed by Rozy. What a nice walk it was, with many thoughts as I strolled along thinking back to when I first took on heading the club. Arriving home I dug out an old Newsletter from Jan. 25, 2015. My how time flies, on that day we had 28 walkers doing our SE Albany walk. With all this year’s challenges in place, not to mention the many benefits of just walking, I would certainly welcome you to walk with me this year. On Sunday Jan. 28, at 2 pm, we will be doing our new walk In Lebanon. Do I have to stop by and drag you off the couch?? Or will you commit to re-adjusting your priorities. I mean, I have room for six passengers and one in the trunk. I revamped most of our walks for you not for me. And what fun it is to walk together and not alone. Hope to see you soon.

Don and Bev are inquiring about putting our
tables on the north outside of the building for a
start point. Karen W is checking on a banner
for the 30th Anniversary event and perhaps for
later use.
2018 Changes from 2017
One more walk by the Cruiser, we dropped
Jefferson and added the Lebanon
Walk..MaryKate and Jan are in charge of the
Brownsville walk this year.
SPECIAL
At each January AVA NEC Meeting, new
Special Programs are introduced for review and
approval to begin in the following year. In
January 2018, the Special Programs are
introduced . If approved, it begins on January 1,
2019. Perhaps the Fitwalkers Carousel program
will be the special one.

Adelman Peony Gardens Since 2003, Albany Fitwalkers have had an annual
volkswalk at Adelman Peony Gardens. That’s 14
years! Time for a special “Thank You.” So Don
nominated them for an OTSVA Flame Award.
Adelman Peony Gardens won the Individual
Excellence golden-winged angel trophy for
their many years of support.
To finish up the old year in late December, Don,
Mary, Steve and Sandy headed to Brooks, OR to
present Carol and Jim Adelman with the award.
It was a cold,
blustery day,
but Steve got a
few pictures in
the small
garden next to
the house,
including one
of the next generation of peony growers.
Out of the weather and in the Adelman office
we learned more about the peony business.
Exciting news too, that Carol co-authored a
recently published book with David C.
Michener. The book is Peony, The Best
Varieties for Your Garden. The book is
available everywhere books are sold.

Silverton Walk Abouts is very glad Fitwalkers is
taking over this traditional event walk.. They have
so few people in their club, this is really helping
them. Don is working on 2 5Km loops.

small historic town 15 miles northeast of Salem. See close to 20 murals. The route meanders through this beautiful town. Slip into the Oregon Garden to see the Frank Lloyd Wright house. Go over the Covered Bridge crossing Silver Creek." Jan 18 – Wilsonville Memorial& Park- 5/10
km, 2B, See the Korean War Veterans Memorial in
Town Center Park and walk through pleasant neighborhoods. The trail passes Wilsonville High School and continues to Memorial Park’s wooded trails by the Willamette River. Jan 25 – Corvallis – 10 km, Not an AVA walk. This
walk will concentrate on the town's murals/public art.

Saturday, January 13, 2018
9am-11am (meet at River Park)
Meet at River Park and hike along a scenic
stretch of the Santiam River on top of a
protective flood dike along the river. The hike
leads us to Cheadle Lake and then returns to
River Park via a riverside city park property
known as the Eagle Scout Trail. The hike also
explores a funded future trail connection
between Riverview Park and Cheadle Lake.
Round trip is 3.5 miles.
