In my neighbourhood there is a small park where the children play, the elders walk... There are also several facilities: a gymnasium, a medical centre, a cultural centre... I have been living here for one year but I like to live here in spite of the noise and of some bad people who lives in the surroundings, although there are also very good people. My friends and I like to walk the streets of my neighbourhood in search of adventures and amusement on Friday evenings. I like the fountain on Circunvalacion road, which is also a part of my neighbourhood is very. It’s big and very nice. Also, I like the new walk along the road very much because you can always see people walking or playing sports. Definitely: I LIKE MY NEIGHBOURHOOD! By Alba Pastor 1ºC E.S.O.

Chess is a very popular game played between two players. Chess originated in India where its early form in the 6th century was called

‘chaturanga’. The game is played on a square chequered chessboard with 64 squares arranged in an eight-by-eight square. At the start, each player (one controlling the white pieces, the other controlling the black pieces) controls sixteen pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. The object of the game is to checkmate the opponent's king.

Parchís is a spanish board game. It is an adaptation of the Indian game ‘pachisi’. This game is played with 1 die and 4 pawns per player. Dice cups are optional, but most game sets include them. As in

Pachisi, the aim is simple: players compete on leading their four pawns out of their nest, around the whole board, into the color track and up to the center of the board, chasing and "eating" each other in the process.

After four French citizens were killed last December 24th in the south of Mauritania, the organization of the Rally Lisbon-Dakar decided to cancel the race due to the lack of safety in the stages to be celebrated in Mauritania before the threats of Al Qaeda attacks. After a long deliberation the race managers paid attention to the warnings of the French Foreign Office Minister and they decided to cancel the Rally Lisbon-Dakar 2008. But this is not the worst because, after the attacks of Al Qaeda, they think they will not celebrate the rally again in Africa.

The General Manager of the Dakar Rally assures that it has been cancelled because of "State Reasons " The General Manager of the Rally doesn’t know which the reasons of State are,, but he affirmed that the French Foreign Office has ¨ official notices coming from Al Qaeda in the Magreb that threatens the Dakar Rally.

Speed skiing is the fastest, not motorized sport in the world. In a race, the starting point is on top of a steep climb ramp. Skiers can accelerate from 0 to 200 km/h in less than 6 seconds. When they are skiing at 200 km/h they can hardly touch the snow under their skis. During the race, it’s very difficult to keep the correct position. Skiers need to hold their breath and they use very long skis (2 metres long). They also wear equipment and helmets specially designed to reduce the wind resistance. These are the last world records:

I live in a city

in Castilla La Mancha called Albacete.

You can do many things in this city, but what I like the most is being a

‘scout’. Do you know what that is? Well, Scouting, also known as the Scout Movement, is a worldwide youth movement with the aim of supporting young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development, so that they may play constructive roles in society. There are many scout groups. Mine is called San Vicente Paul. This group is divided into several subgroups:

I like going to the troop meetings every Saturday. I meet with them at 4:30 to do a lot of activities. I hope that if someone reads my article he or she may come to see us. By Laura Gimeno Jiménez 1C ESO

The park López-Mateo in Albacete was created around 1906 with a party. Children planted a lot of trees, so the name of this park is “Fiesta del árbol”. I like this park because it’s very big and I can play football, I can ride my bicycle and I can eat with my family and my friends. In this park there is a bar. Inside the park there is a high building with a water tank on the top. This building is very tall, 80 metres and now they want to make it into a tourist viewpoint.

Pathway To The Peaks by Kevin McNeal. Equipment: Canon G9 Taken in the British Columbia, Canada Only a good photographer can take this photograph. I think this image is very beautiful because the use of the colours and lines gives the image a very calming feeling and for me this shot represents the things that you need to see because the landscape and the snow join together in a nice shot. It’s fantastic. I wish I could take this kind of pictures! By Rubén García García 2B ESO

Mojave Mystic by David Doe. Equipment: Nikon D-80. Taken in Mojave Desert. I like this photograph very much. I think that David was frightened when

he saw this, but I think that he was also lucky. To be a good photographer you need to be lucky. I think that is fantastic. What surprises me is that, just when he took the photo, a lightening appeared from the sky giving a picture of fear on one hand and surprise on the other hand. Only a patient and good photographer can take this. By: David García Delgado 2ºB ESO
