Alameda BalletSouth Shore Center kicks off its holiday celebrations with an Alameda Ballet performance of The Nutcracker at 5:30pm on 11/23.
This holiday season, Alameda Ballet once again transports audiences on a magical journey with
Clara and the Nutcracker Prince. From the heroic battle against the Mouse King, travel through the Land of the Snowflakes and on to the Kingdom of the Sweets. There you will meet the Sugar Plum Fairy and be entertained by the wonders of the Land of Enchantment. Choreographed by Artistic Direc-tor, Abra Rudisill, with gorgeous costumes, beauti-ful sets and the classic Tchaikovsky score—this is a production sure to bring out the child in everyone.
Alameda Ballet’s Nutcracker production has be-come a time-honored family holiday tradition, and more information is available at alamedanutcracker.com. For information about Alameda Ballet’s Spring Recital, ballet classes, studio rentals and other re-sources, visit alamedaballet.com.

Remember making play-dough ornaments as a kid? You’d take a cookie cutter and chisel out
your favorite shape. Then you’d let it dry, and you’d paint it or coat it with glue and sprinkle it with glitter. Chances are, those ornaments you crafted as a kid are still hanging from your parents’ tree. Your mom unpacks them year after year, and they remind her of the time you skipped home from kindergarten and presented her with that dried-dough reindeer or that beglittered holiday tree.
At Color Me Mine, friends and families can make memories in all seasons. Whether you’d like to make holiday ornaments or want to try your hand at glass fusion, Color Me Mine’s got you covered this winter:
• 12/15: Kid’s Night Out. Enjoy holiday movies, ice cream and bingo while you make holiday ceramics. 6pm to 9pm.
• 12/26: $3 Studio Fee—Get out of the house and paint!
• 01/16: Glass Fusion Workshop. No experience necessary! 6:30pm. RSVP to (510) 521-5639.
Visit alameda.colormemine.com for sign up or to obtain more information!
Color Me MineBring the kids, bring your friends, bring the whole family to Color Me Mine for three clay ornament-making workshops this holiday season.

I travel a lot, and everywhere I go, I fall in love with products I find. I’ve gotten so inspired, in fact, that I’m
bringing some of these goods to a new retail venture, Mixson Market in Charleston. Like Star Provisions in Atlanta or Chelsea Market in New York, Mixson Market will be a hip spot to get quality meat, cheese, cof-fee, wine and made-to-order sandwiches. More than that, the market will be a community gathering space, a place where people can relax over a cup of coffee or shop for amazing housewares like wool blankets, Herschel Supply Co. backpacks, Falconware enameled plates from the UK, cookbooks and vintage French bread boards. In addition to falling in love with great products, I also relish the unique marketplace com-munities I find in both small and large towns. That spirit definitely inspires Jamestown’s placemaking. At Ware-house Row in Chattanooga, for instance, we’re working to create an out-of-this-world mercantile food market, starting with local favorites Petunia’s Silver Jalapeño and Southern Burger Company. For more about some of the markets mentioned here, visit mixsonmarket.com, starprovisions.com, warehouserow.net and chel-seamarket.com.
MarketplacesMan-about-town George Krauth dishes on the fashions, flavors, de-signs and décor he discovers as he travels the globe tracking trends in his capacity as VP of Creative and Marketing for Jamestown. This quarter, George tells us how he’s inspired by marketplaces.

The little ice rink
With the help of Perforce and Ice America, The Little Ice Rink is back for a second year in a new
location at South Shore Center. At the Grand Opening celebration in November, professional skaters from Holiday on Ice dazzled onlookers as they swooped and spiraled their way across the 3,000 square-foot rink.
The Little Ice Rink is made possible by the Perforce Software Foundation, and additional supporters include Executive Inn & Suites Embarcadero Cove, Bayside Hotel Oakland, Panera Bread and Bank of Alameda.
Find The Little Ice Rink on Park Street at Franciscan Way, adjacent to Petco. The cost, including skate rental, is $10 for kids through age 8 and $15 for 9+. If you bring your own skates, the cost is $6 for kids and $10 for adults. Find more information at thelittleicerink.com.

Last year, The Little Ice Rink, Alameda’s first seasonal ice-skating facility, quickly became a favorite
Alameda holiday outing. This year, international software developer Perforce continues its support of the venture as The Little Ice Rink moves to South Shore Center. “It’s been a dream of ours for a few years to have an ice rink in Alameda,” said Christopher Seiwald, founder and president of Perforce, during last year’s opening celebration.
The Little Ice Rink isn’t the only way Perforce gives back to local communities and global charities. Through the Perforce Foundation and Perforce’s Giving Program, each employee can donate $1,500 annually to charities of their choosing. Combined with the additional donations made by the Giving Committee, the Perforce Foundation has donated over $2.3 million since its inception. To date, the Perforce Foundation has supported an array of worthy causes, including public and private schools, disaster relief, advocacy for the homeless, animals, fair trade, health, arts and science.
For more on Perforce and the Perforce Foundation visit perforce.com.
PerforceAlameda software company Perforce gives back to the community in all kinds of ways, including providing a portion of the funding for The Little Ice Rink at South Shore Center.
