The CRI (Chechen Republic of Ichkeria) is the former state which was fighting the Russian invaders and the Mushrikeen but however had a different ideology. The CRI is replaced by the Caucasus Emirate. The Caucasus Emirate is the new state which are fighting the Russian invaders, idolaters and Mushrikeen in the land of the

Caucasus. Although the CRI does not exist any more, the purpose of this short article is to explain why the forming of the Emirate took place and it also helps us to understand what is an Islamic Emirate/State. Looking through the jihad in the Caucasus a few years back, you will find that there are

major differences between the supreme Islamic Emirate of the Caucasus, and the former, Chechen Republic of Ichkiria. The reason why they moved away from Sharia is that they had a democratic system and this system recognises the sovereignty of man over the sovereignty of Allah. Elections are just one aspect of democracy but not the defining aspect (sovereignty is) and elections occur in other systems and in and of themselves are not kufr. The problem with sovereignty for the people is that you are saying the people can legislate and rule against the rule of Allah. The Islamic Emirate of the Caucasus clearly (will) rule by the sharia. Shaikh Abu Uthman al Qoqazi (aka.Dokka Umarov), leader of the Mujahideen, has openly declared an Islamic Emirate/

State based on Sharia or based on Quran and Sunnah. In all cases the Islamic State makes judgement based on the Sharia. Examples of this have been the banning of music ,burning beer stalls and letting the ulama and elders appoint their leader instead of the democratic practice of allowing the public. All soldiers and officials of the Islamic state have given bay`ah (oath of allegiance) to the Amir, just as the Sahaba give Bay`ah to Abu Bakr and then Umar{May Allah be pleased with them} after the death of the Prophet {sallallahu alaihi wasallam} . The Caucasus Emirate are not fighting for a nationalist state The Caucasus Emirate are clearly not involved in nationalism as shown below: --The CRI (Chechen Republic of Ichkiria.) used to express pride in being Chechen by proudly

displaying symbols of Chechnya and called it a war between Russia and Chechnya , in other words, not a war between Islam and Kufr as it is. The Caucasus Emirate clearly abandons nationalism by expanding the jihad into surrounding provinces like Dagestan, Ingushetia, KB province, North Ossetia and even went over the boarders of Russia into Azerbaijan. The Emirate now calls the war an international war between falsehood (Kufr) and the truth (Islam). It replaces the flag of ‘Laa I laa ha illallah’ instead of the Chechen flag which used to soar in the camps of the Mujahideen. The Emirate also clearly stated in many occasions that they have abandoned and are not part of a nationalist state which can be read on their websites.* The treacherous governments of the province of Chechnya and surrounding provinces After the time of the Soviet

Union’s collapse, they invaded Chechnya with the intention to kill every Muslim in Chechnya. But there was too much resistance, so the Russians adopted another strategy. Russia halted the mass killings and started bribing and attracting Mujahideen to join the ‘unity government for a better future and a new Chechen president’. Many of the “Mujahideen” fell for this dirty trick, amongst them, a man known as Kadyrov, the president of Chechnya and lots of other high ranking officers and MPs have sold their religion just for a few luxuries in this world. They have left the fold of Islam just for merely a few pieces of bones the Kuffar throw for them and they seem so eager to catch it! Allah says: “O ye who believe! Take not the

May Allah subhanahu wata alah guide us all and save us from the evils and the schemes of the Kuffar. O Allah strengthen the Mujahideen in the Caucasus and elsewhere fighting in your cause.

Hadith no.1 No Deed Equivalent To Jihad. Narrated Abu Huraira , a man came to Allah's Apostle {peace be upon him} and said "Instruct me as to such a deed as equals Jihad (in reward). He replied, "I do not find such a deed." Then he added, "Can you, while the Muslim fighter is in the battlefield, enter your Mosque to perform prayers without cease and fast and never break your fast?" The man said, "But who can do that?" Abu Huraira {may

Allah be pleased with him} added, "The Mujahid is rewarded even for the footsteps of his horse while it wanders about (for grazing) tied on a long rope ". Sahih Bukhari, (p391, Vol. 1). Explanation. The virtue of an action is based upon its importance and its high status. Taking this into account the aim of Jihad is the elevation of Allah's word and this cannot be achieved without Jihad. For this reason the most

virtuous deed stated in this hadith is Jihad. To comprehend this virtuous deed by the human mind may prove difficult, but only Allah's grace and mercy can enlighten us in this respect, when we examine the religious laws in providing the reasons for Jihad being the most virtuous deed, we can present the view that Jihad is actually the protector of all other deeds. It is on account of Jihad that Muslims can be at ease and be able to lead their way of life, fulfilling all obligations without the fear of the enemy. When Jihad is neglected, it is inevitable that the kuffar (unbelievers) will overpower the Muslims resulting in a breakdown of the Islamic way of life. Another reason for Jihad being the most virtuous deed is that a person sacrifices his two beloved

things which are, his life and his wealth which is unlike other deeds. It can easily be concluded by this explanation why other deeds cannot compete with Jihad. In reference to some Ahadith in which other deeds have been given priority, the focus has been on a specific aspect and this has been considered acceptable. Generally, the Scholars of Hadith have given priority to Jihad by analysing the details of the above Hadith. A great Scholar of Hadith, Qadhi Ayadh Maliki states, one realizes the great status of Jihad by this hadith and no deed is equivalent to Jihad. Fathul Bari, (p5, Vol.6). Hadith No. 2 Mujahid The Most Superior. Narrated Abu Sa`id Khudri {may Allah be pleased with

him} ,somebody asked, “0 Allah’s Messenger!{Sallallahu alaihi wasallam} Who is the best among the people?” Allah’s Messenger {peace be upon him} replied, “A believer who performs Jihad with his life and wealth. “They asked, “Who is next?” He replied, “A believer who stays in one of the mountain paths worshipping Allah and leaving the people safe from his mischief” Sahih Bukhari, (p391, Vol. 1). Explanation It is clear from this hadith that the person who does Jihad in Allah’s path is more superior than other Muslims, This has also been clearly stated in the Quran: “Allah has preferred in grades those who strive hard and fight with their wealth and lives above those who

sit (at home). Unto each, Allah has promised good (Paradise), but Allah has preferred those who strive hard and fight above those who sit (at home) by a huge reward.” Holy Quran, (Surah Nisa: Verse 95). It is regarding the great virtue and importance of Jihad that the Prophet {peace be upon him} participated in Jihad personally and urged his companions upon this deed so much so that there was no deed more beloved and virtuous in the eyes of the Sahaba as much as Jihad. Abu Bakr {may Allah be pleased with him} used to walk with the Mujahideen and accompany them to the outskirts of Madinah. Sunani Kubra Bailiaqi, (p173, Vol. 9).

It is stated in a narration of Kanzul Ummal that a person came to Umar {may Allah be pleased with him} and asked for a horse. Umar {may Allah be pleased with him} set the saddle on the horse and when that person started to ride off, Umar {may Allah be pleased with him} followed that person requesting he would supplicate for him. When Umar {may Allah be pleased with him} departed from him, that person said, “0 Allah give, Umar {may Allah be pleased with him} the best of reward.” Kanzul Ummal, (p289. VoL 2). May Allah give us the ability to follow the footsteps of the Sahaba (radhi Allahu Anhu) in their love for Jihad. Ameen.

Hadith no.3 The Grade Of The Mujahideen. Narrated Abu Huraira {may Allah be pleased with him} that the Prophet Muhammad {peace be upon him} said, “Whoever believes in Allah and His Messanger, performs Salah observes Fasts in the of month of Ramdhan, then it will be a promise binding upon Allah to admit him to Paradise, no matter whether he fights in Allah’s cause or remains in the land where he was born.” The people said, “0 Allah’s Messenger!, shall we acquaint the people with the good news?” He said, “Paradise has one hundred grades which Allah has reserved for the Mujahideen who fight in his cause, and the distance between each of

two grades is like the distance between the Heaven and the earth. So when you ask Allah (for something,), ask for Firdows which is the middle (best) and the highest part of Paradise. And above it (Al Firdows Paradise,) is the throne of the Beneficent (i.e. Allah) and from it gushes forth the rivers of Paradise. Sahih Bukhari. (p39l, Vol.1). Explanation When a Mujahid sacrifices his wealth and life in the elevation of Allah’s Religion. Allah in exchange will give him high ranks in Jannah, on the day of Judgment. This hadith states that the distance between two grades in Jannah. is the distance between the earth and the sky. This reference is to illustrate the greatness of Jannah and in a hadith in

Tirmizi, the distance between the two grades of Jannah is quoted as 100 years and in a further hadith in Tabrani this distance is quoted as 500 years. Jihad is obligatory..? In the Holy Qur’aan, Allah has commanded the believers to go forward and fight those who disbelieve. Allah says:

'Fighting is prescribed for you.' Surah al Baqarah Allah also says: “If you march not forth, he (Allah will punish you with a painful torment and will replace you by another people, and you cannot harm him at all and Allah is able to do all things.” Surah at-Tawbah

39. Allah has warned those who believe that there is severe punishment for those who do not fight in he’s cause. And to what extent should fighting in Allah’s way be? Allah says in the Holy Qur’aan: "And fight them (the Kuffar) until there is no more evil and the religion will all be for Allaah Alone ..." From the above Ayaat of the Qur’aan, we find that fighting in Allah’s path is obligatory and we also find that fighting in Allah’s way is a very important part of Islam and is spoken by Allah in many occasions in the Holy Qur’aan. Imaam Bukhaari also has written a chapter in Saheeh al-Bukhaari entitled, “The

Chapter on the Obligation of marching out and what is required from Jihad and intention for it”. Punishment for those who abandon Jihad. Allah says in the Holy Qur’an: “Those who stayed away (from Tabuk expedition) rejoiced in their staying behind the Messenger of Allaah: they hated to strive and fight in the cause of Allaah, and they said: "March not forth in the heat" Say: "the Fire of Hell is more intense in heat, if only they could understand." Allah says regarding the companions of the Prophet {sallallahu alaihi wasallam}

who stayed behind and said “…March not forth in the heat” that the punishment of Hell is indeed much more severe. Allah Azza wajal says in the Holy Qur’aan: “If you march not forth, he (Allah) will punish you with a painful torment and will replace you by another people, and you cannot harm him at all and Allah is able to do all things.” Surah at-Tawbah 39. Ibn 'Abbaas {radhi Allahu Anh} said: “The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) commanded some people from the Arabs to march forth but they stayed behind, so Allah caused the

rain to stop falling on them and that was a punishment for them” Abdullah bin Umar {radhi Allahu anh} narrates from the Prophet Muhammad {sallallahu alaihi wasallam}: "When people become niggardly about the Dirham and Dinar (currencies), deal with al-'Ienah (a kind of Riba), abandon Jihad and follow the queues of the cows (i.e. being diverted from Jihaad in the cause of Allah by tending cattle), Allah will cause a punishment to descend on them and He will not lift it until they go back to their deen (religion) .”Abu Dawud & Ahmad This shows that Jihad is so important in the deen of Allah, that one loses his Imaan if one totally ignores

and forgets Jihad. Fighting in Allah’s way. Abu Huraira {radhi Allahu anh} narrates from Rasulullah {sallallahu alaihi wasallam}: "Hajj is the Jihad for the old, the weak and the women (and for young, healthy men, jihad is the fighting in the Path of Allah against the Kuffar)" Nisa’ee Allah says in the Qur’aan: “O you who believe! What is the matter with you, that when you are asked to march forth in the Cause of Allah (i.e. Jihad) you cling heavily to the earth? Are you pleased with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter? But little is the

enjoyment of the life of this world as compared to the Hereafter.”Surah at Tawbah 38-39 Allah Azzawajal addresses the believers saying to them that the enjoyment of this world is nothing in comparison to the enjoyment of this world. Allah also asks the believers “What is the matter with you (why do you disobey Allah), that when you are asked to march forth in the Cause of Allah, you cling heavily to the earth(Allah asked you to march forth and you reject and cling to this earth)?” The Aim of establishing an Islamic State.

This is one of the main objectives and goals of Jihad and we are commanded in the book of Allah to establish a Caliphate: “And so judge you between them by what Allah has Revealed (and not man made laws i.e. Capitalism, Socialism )”Surah al Maaidah-49 Allah {subhanahu wata Aalaa} says: “Whoever does not rule by what Allah has revealed (Sharia), such are the disbelievers(Kuffar).” Surah al Maaidah-44 Imam Abu Haneefah, issued this fatwa: The Dar-ul-lslam (Islamic State) would be changed to

Dar-ul-Kufr (non-Islamic State) if all these three conditions were fulfilled: 1. When it is governed by Kufr Laws(such as democracy). 2. When the Muslims lose their safety 3. Neighbourhood. And that happens if the state has borders with the Kufr state in a way the latter causes danger to the Muslims and becomes the reason behind the loss of their safety. The virtues of fighting in the path of Allah. Allah says: “Not equal are those believers remaining [at home] – other than the disabled – and the

Mujahideen in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has preferred the Mujahideen through their wealth and their lives over those who remain [behind], by degrees. And to all, Allah has promised the best [reward]. But Allah has preferred the Mujahideen over those who remain [behind] with a great reward.” An Nisaa 95 Allah says in the above that the believers who sit at home (besides those who are disabled) do not acquire the same reward as to those who fight in Allah’s cause (Jihad). The Messenger of Allah

{sallallahu alaihi wasallam} was asked, “What is the best of all acts of worship?” He said, “Believing in Allah” He was asked,

“And then what?” He responded, “Jihad in the path of Allah” Then he was asked “And then what?” He said, “An accepted Hajj.” Sahih Bukhari & Muslim

This Hadith shows that a larger reward lies for those who fight in the path of Allah (Jihad) than those who perform Hajj and it also proves that Jihad is the most important act of Ibaadah after believing that Allah is one and Muhammad {sallallahu alaihi wasallam} is he’s messenger and slave. Abu Dharr {sallallahu

alaihi wasallam} narrates: “I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about the best deeds, he said, “Believing in Allah

and jihad in His path” Bukhari & Muslim

This Hadith shows how

great and lofty rank is Jihad in the path of Allah.

Abu Said al Khudri {radhi Allahu Anh} narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was asked, “Who is the best of people?” He said, “A believer who is making jihad with his life and his wealth in the cause of Allah.” Bukhari & Muslim

This Hadith proves that the best person is he who fights in the cause of Allah (after having faith).

Abu Hurairah {may Allah be pleased with him} narrates that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was asked about a deed equal in reward to Jihad. He replied, “You cant do it” They asked again and then a third time, and every time the Messenger of Allah says, “You cant do it” Then he said, “The equivalent of the Mujahid is the one who fasts and prays continuously without resting until the Mujahid comes back!”

This Hadith says that fighting in the path of Allah has the same virtue of fasting and praying continuously for the same period a Mujahid fights.

Again, this Hadith shows the greatness of a Mujahid in the path of Allah. The Virtue Of Fear In The Path Of Allah: Salman {may Allah be pleased with him} said: “If the heart of the believer trembles in the path of Allah that would shake down his sins just like the shaking of a cluster of dates” Allah says: “Indeed, Allah loves those who fight in His cause in a row as though they are a [single] structure joined firmly . Ibn Umar said: “To stand

in the ranks facing the enemy even without me striking my sword,

throwing my spear, or shooting my arrows, is better to me than worshiping Allah for 60 years and not committing any sin” Al Jami

Imran bin Haseen

narrated: The Messenger of Allah (sallallahualaihi wasallam) said:

“Standing in the ranks of

the army in the battlefield is better to Allah than the

worship of sixty years” This Hadith again shows the virtue of Jihad in the path of Allah and it shows that Allah loves those who fight in his cause more than Allah loves those who pray for sixty years.

Yazeed bin Shajarah {radhi

Allahu anh} said: “I was told that swords are

keys to Paradise” What excuse do you have to stay away from Jihad? Fear of pain and death? Abu Hurairah {Radhi Allahu Anh} narrates: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said “The Shaheed feels the pain of death just like one of you would feel the sting of an insect” At Tirmidhi Prophet Muhammad {sallallahu alaihi wasallam} said: “The martyr feels not the pain of killing except like a pinch” Fear of leaving luxuries and

wealth? Allah says: “Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you and rivalry in respect of wealth and children, as the likeness of vegetation after rain , thereof the growth is pleasing to the tiller, afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow then it becomes straw. But in the hereafter a severe torment and forgiveness from Allah and good pleasure whereas the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment” Improving your deeds first and than only Jihad! This thought is a deception by Shaitan.

“Verily the standing of a man in the battle line for the cause of Allah is better than seventy years of worship amongst his family.” …and my wife? What about my wife? I have so much love for her. How can we depart? Abu Zakariyyah al Dimashqi says:

“Know that separation from your wife eventually is a must, it is as if it has already happened and in paradise you shall be joined together if Allah wills. What best of joining places!” Parents and elders preventing you? If your Parents forbid you to go for Jihad, here is the answer for them: We have to love Allah and his messenger {sallallahu alaihi wasallam}

more than anyone else. Allah Azza wajal and his messenger {sallallahu alaihi wasallam} have commanded us to make Jihad, and if your parents forbid you, you will have to disobey them because we have to listen to Allah even if our parents go forbid you. We must respect and love our parents but if they go against Allah and his messenger, we must be prepared to turn against them. Jihad in the lifetime of Rasulullah {sallallahu alaihi wasallam}. The Battle of Badr This is the Greatest Battle in the life of Prophet Muhammad {sallallahu alaihi wasallam}. The Muslims were about 300 in number and the Kuffar were about a 1000.

The Muslims had 2 horses, 70 camels, 8 swords and the rest of the army had to fight with sticks and stones. When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) heard of the caravan carrying a huge amount of wealth belonging to the tribe of Quraish, he ordered his companions to capture it. They missed the caravan but ended up meeting an army of Quraish that rushed to the defence of their caravan. The Prophet (peace be upon him) wept and begged for help from Allah. Allah than sent down 5000 Angels to help the Muslims led by Jibrael himself. Seventy of the infidels were killed and seventy were taken prisoners. Allah has revealed the Surah, Al Anfal regarding this holy day. 14 of the companions (of the

Prophet Muhammad {Sallallahu alaihi wasallam}) attained martyrdom. Two prisoners of the Quraish were slain by order of Prophet Muhammad {peace be upon him} and the most of the others were freed by paying ransom. The Battle of Uhud The battle of Uhud took place on Shawwaal 3 hijri. The Muslim army was 700. The enemy was 3000. The banner of the Quraish was entrusted to the family of Abu Talhah. Before the battle started the banner was with Talhah bin Abi Talhah. Ali {radhi Allahu anh} killed him. When the banner fell down, the Quraish had been defeated and they began their retreat. But because the archers on the mountain

disobeyed the clear orders of the Muhammad {sallallahu alaihi wasallam} and left their post, Khalid bin al Waleed and Ikrimah bin Abu Jahl took advantage of that and ambushed the Muslims who thought the battle was over. The day of Uhud was a trial for the Muslims. The Battle Khaibar After the return of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) from al Hudaybiah he stayed in Madinah Dhul Hijjah and part of Muharram and then marched towards the last community of Jews living in the Hijjaaz: Khaibar. Khaibar was a strong fortress. Marhab, the Jewish king came out and asked for duel. Amr bin al Akwa went to face him. Amr accidently killed himself. The Prophet

Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that he attained double reward of the martyrs. Muhammad (peace be upon him) asked, ''Who would fight Marhab now?''.Muhammad bin Maslamah {may Allah be pleased with him} said: “I would. I am the angry avenger. Marhab killed my brother yesterday!” The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)said ''Then go, May Allah help you against him'' Muhammad bin Maslamah {radhi Allahu anh} cut Marhab's two legs and left him to suffer until later on, Ali {Radhi Allahu anh} killed him. (peace be upon him) battles which he had participated and there are many others. May Allah Subhanahu wata alaa give us the ability to participate in the Jihad and fight the Kuffar. O Allah! help the Mujahideen in your cause. O Allah! help the Mujahideen who are fighting in your cause in Iraq, Afghanistan, Caucasus

and elsewhere. O Allah! Destroy the enemies of Islam. O Allah! destroy the Jews, Christians, Atheists and the betraying criminals. O Allah! save us all from the punishment of Hell and grant us beautiful gardens in paradise. O Allah! Help the faithful ones, and send a disasters on the unfaithful.

Personality is used to describe differentiating or unique yet consistent and recognisable characteristics of a human being. It is akin to the term individuality. Some traits are generalised to describe a group of similar characteristics of a group of human beings. One such example of grouping and subject of the topic is the “Islamic” personality. If one is to understand the Islamic way of life in its totality then he/she should reflect constantly whether their personality is in line with what is demanded of them by Islam. The purpose of writing this piece is not to delve into a

theoretical discussion of personality and the hidden aspects of personality nor is the purpose to focus on the outward personality from upon which many observers may conclude about someone having an Islamic personality. The purpose is to link the two together in a practical manner in order to allow the reader take the subject upon himself for thinking and acting upon. The personality of a person is linked to his creed. And thus personality of a Muslim should be linked to Islam in an intrinsic manner. We see around us, a clear example of this link between the fundamental idea a person holds and the way in which

he is seen to behave. The action of eating, drinking, procreating, sleeping are some of basic actions regarded as necessary for life. Yet by observing how a person undertakes these fundamental actions when can conclude something about his creed. A Muslim prefers to eat a certain way, drink a certain way, limits his/her need to procreate within confines of marriage. Although these very acts are similar to ones conducted by kaafir, there are huge differences in the way in which a kaafir would undertake the same actions. And thus creed of person is of vital importance of forming the correct personality. It is this aspect of personality which should be understood as being of vital importance to a Muslim. This aspect of linking action with creed,

allows a person to the form the Islamic personality, and allows him to incline to the good and give him a joyful taste of good and allows him to turn away from evil and all that is bad. From the above illustration it can also be conceived that as long as a Muslim links his thoughts to his actions within the confines of guidance of Islam, he has an Islamic personality regardless of his knowledge or ignorance. This is the basic building block of an ideal Islamic personality. With it comes the performance of faraa`id (obligatory) and abstinence of haraam (prohibited). Failing this, the person’s religion becomes in doubt and surpassing this, strengthens the Islamic personality of the person. Similarly from the above statement we can conclude that one need not be an

angel to have an Islamic personality. Such an understanding greatly damages a person’s motivation to obtain a good Islamic personality. Although one should strive for ideal/perfectionism in his Deen, we must also know that Islam is practical and it was revealed to be implemented. What should one do after knowing this to strengthen his Islamic personality? InshAllah the purpose of the article is to give some guidance in this regard.

1 – The Creed is the criteria not only for action but for thoughts as well The Islamic creed allows a person to distinguish between the haq (truth) and falsehood (baatil). Thus a person must strengthen his belief in the Islamic creed

and implement it by not only evaluating actions against the criteria outlined in the Islamic creed but also other thoughts that are whispered to him by shaytan and other human beings which have gone astray. One example of this, is that many a good Muslim go astray for what they perceive a fanciful act of trying to call the dead, or following shuyukh (scholars) that use magic to entice their followers. Thus to prevent a Muslim leaving the creed, he must question the basis of certain thoughts and actions as well as the actions themselves.

2 – The Creed moulds the personality comprehensively Once a person attains the basic building block of the Islamic personality he effectively becomes qualified

to act as a soldier and a leader simultaneously. He combines the attributes of mercy and toughness, and luxury and asceticism. He truly understands life, so he seizes this worldly life and takes from it only what he needs, and achieves the hereafter by striving for it. Accordingly he is not dominated by any of the attributes of those who idolize this worldly life. He does not drift with religious ecstasy or Indian asceticism. Simultaneously, he is a hero of Jihad and a resident of the prayer room. He humbles himself when he is a master. He carries within him the qualities of leadership and jurisprudence, trade and politics. His most sublime attribute is that he is a servant of Allah ,his Creator. So you will see him humble in his prayer, he

refrains from futile and wasteful talk, he pays his Zakaah, lowers his gaze, observes his trusts and honours his pledges, he keeps his promises and performs Jihad. This is the Muslim and this is the believer.

3 – Developing the Islamic Personality To strengthen the Islamic personality is two folds:

Via Ibaadah

The ibadah strengthens ones innate nature and controls it so that it is easy to follow Islam and not deviate from it at the behest of others

Studying Islamic sciences (Quran, Fiqh, etc) and to learn to observe dunya with an Islamic lens

This strengthens the linking knowledge with action and

allows a person to discern truth from falsehood.

4 – Developing One’s self to carry the Islamic Personality This unfortunately if often neglected. For the one desires to carry the ideal Islamic personality, he must himself be strong. Two things are meant here, he must know the sacrifices required and thus must undertake sacrifices required from his innate self and also to develop outwardly to carry the Islamic personality. The inward sacrifices are of grave importance and they include following the command of Allah regarding loyalty and disloyalty. "Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah , and those who are with him are severe against disbelievers, and merciful

among themselves.” [Chapter 48: verse 29] "And the slaves of the Most Beneficent (Allah) are those who walk on the earth in humility and sedateness, and when the foolish address them (with bad words) they repay back with mild words of gentleness. And those who spend the night before their Lord, prostrate and standing.” [Chapter 25: verse 63 -65] Too often it seen that a Muslim who carries the Islamic personality but in terms of his affairs with people he deviates from the Islamic Personality because of his weak nature. Yet we have seen that Islam was carried by people of strength i.e. the Ansar, and the tribes who did not agree to defend Islam from all sides were not

given the honour of carrying the banner of Islam at an early stage. By this strength, it is not meant bodily strength, but qualities such as independence, self-reliance (with the help of Allah), organisation, self-motivation, ability to work on a goal for lengthy period of time without being heavily distracted are all qualities of outwardly strength. This is a necessary requirement in the current age to carry the Islamic personality hence developing them should be taken seriously. Let us also remember that a prophet Muhammad {peace be upon him} encouraged Muslims to learn a whole host of practical skills, inc. fighting, swimming and from amongst his Sunnah is stitching cooking. Also the story Shaikh Abdullah ibn Yaseen [who is responsible

for bringing Islam to most of the African continent] who set up a camp in area now known as Northern Senegal, would teach the people apart from the Deen, how to be independent and be self-reliant so that when those people went back to their tribes they would not be leave their Deen because of any possible persecution.

In conclusion: The starting point with any human who enters the fold of Islam is the development of his Aqeedah, followed by linking from his fundamental beliefs to all of his actions. The later requires a continuous effort especially in the current age where the Islamic personality of many of Muslims has become weak and requires a radical revival in order to carry the Deen forward.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most

Merciful Muslims should not suppress dialog on 9/11, even if that dialog is in favour of such events, since the taboo stigma attached to 9/11 is something created by the terrorist United States and because 9/11, when looked at as an attack and a loss of life, is nothing in comparison to what our brothers and sisters go through in the Middle East,

nor is it anything compared to other bloodbaths throughout history. Thus, the United States is using propaganda to justify treating those who praise the attack as criminals worse than the Nazis. Why should Muslims accommodate these allegations? Why should approval of 9/11 and Al Qaeda be grounds for dismissing one from mosques, political statuses, demonstrations, countries, forums, or even

the entire Muslim Ummah? Narrated Imran ibn Husayn: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: A section of my community will continue to fight for the right and overcome their opponents till the last day. Sunan Abu Dawud: Book 14, Number 2478: Considering the absence of a Khalifah, and the lack of approval thereof by those who are theoretically in power of today's Ummah, Muslims have every right to ban together in groups and declare Jihad. With that point, it goes without saying that in order for such a group to function, someone must declare himself as leader of the group, even if doing so is not the favourable thing to do under Islamic terms (with so much

corruption in the world, and no Khalifah, doing so is the only choice). Jihad is an individual duty. Even if the 9/11 attacks were not justifiable, those whom they were committed against rarely show regard for what our people go through. Why should we condemn 9/11 more than we condemn the injustices done towards other Muslims? The fact that Muslims do so today is a tragedy and is the succession of the master plan created by those who wish to suppress knowledge on the true evils being committed. We spend more time condemning our fellow Muslims who are doing Jihad, and even if they are wrong in the way they are conducting themselves, we should be condemning and showing more hostility towards our true enemies than anything else. Qaeda would not even exist if it were not for the evils the West has committed, and if it were not for the fact that the majority of Muslims are failing Islam today. Thus, it is no surprise that Jihadist groups as it is are often very disorganized and disjointed. The leaders of Al Qaeda, in every way, have the knowledge and qualities of Scholars. Do you really think that what matters to Allah is that an individual is issued a (worldly) certificate which declares him as a Scholar? And why should we trust the institutions which issue such certificates today? Considering that these institutions are barely Islamic, as they do not tell us to take up arms and do Jihad (even though Muslims are more oppressed than ever before), we should not trust them at all. Jihad to

them is only theoretical and they suppress the idea of it because their first priorities lie in answering to their Kafir governments and leaders. These supposed Sheikhs are issuing fatwas from air conditioned rooms and basking in the world's most pleasurable delights, while the Mujahideen are suffering on the battlefield. The Holy Qur'an is the main source for finding all truth and knowledge for the world and living in it. We must look to it for everything, including laws and guidelines for Jihad. This specific topic is one that the Qur'an stresses with importance stretching across barriers we cannot even comprehend. It is clear on the matter. It only becomes complicated and unclear when those with biases, hypocrisies, fears, and evil agendas decide to

work only in favour of their own security and interests. Muslims do this just as much as those who disbelieve in and blaspheme Islam. Islam is indeed a religion based around the need to create peace in the world. Many Muslims refuse to accept that this means fighting oppressors to create justice. They take verses about peace which look alluring to all of humanity and use these verses to condemn the idea of Holy War. They ignore all the verses from the Qur'an which condone and command the Muslims to go to war and fight evil. They say that Islam is against killing others, but they take this out of context. In reality, Islam is against unjust killing. Allah tells us that we must kill those who serve an extreme level of conformity and has given us guidelines

about when we must employ justice, as I will show you. The Muslims who deny this ignore a large chunk of the Qur'an. They have cut themselves off from all wisdom and will certainly be opponents of our comforters, Mahdi and Jesus, when they come, as they (our comforters) will make war with the world... something these Kufr-appeasing Muslims hate. Then there are those who want us to believe that Allah allowed his religion to be hijacked on September eleventh, 2001. They say that Usama Bin Laden (may Allah be pleased with him) is a double agent working for America, as are his associates. They say that the most glorious attack – an attack against a monstrosity of a country which was in retaliation for a century of unanswered violence and

death – was orchestrated, falsely under the name of God, to create a reason to attack his people – the Muslims. But Allah would not allow something like that to happen. Instead, the real issue is explaining to the ignorant why an attack like 9/11 is justified under Allah's laws during these times we live in. Firstly, everyone should know Islam's stance on disbelief. It is known, and agreed upon by virtually every Islamic Scholar, that those who disbelieve in Allah, his Prophets, and his Laws, are all deserving of ETERNAL punishments, all of which are physical, and include things like being burned live, being forced to drink boiling substances, being crushed by giant boulders, and so on. So then, such a people are definitely deserving of a painful death. However, this does not

mean that Muslims are supposed to go around killing people for not accepting Islam. No, the Islamic authorities are supposed to put to death those who harm Islam. As Allah say in the Qur'an: The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter; Except for those who repent before they fall into your power: in that case, know that Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. (5:33-34) When disbelievers are killed

by the Muslims in Jihad, the Qur'an states that it was not us who killed them, but Allah: O you who believe! when you meet those who disbelieve marching for war, then turn not your backs to them. And whoever shall turn his back to them on that day-- unless he turn aside for the sake of fighting or withdraws to a company-- then he, indeed, becomes deserving of Allah's wrath, and his abode is hell; and an evil destination shall it be. So you did not slay them, but it was Allah Who slew them, and you did not smite when you smote (the enemy), but it was Allah Who smote, and that He might confer upon the believers a good gift from Himself; surely Allah is Hearing, Knowing. (8:15-17)

Thus, it is Allah who punishes and kills. Every Muslim is a slave and tool of Allah's for him to conduct his plans. This is what frightens so many people about 9/11, that nineteen men would willingly give their lives to kill others. They realize that it is very rare for someone to do this for their own interests, so when they see people giving their lives for God, religion begins to look like a cult. In reality, this sacrifice is the most powerful. We see that humans, in the vast majority, will only face death willingly if it is for the sake of God. This is not ugly; it is actually one of the most beautiful things in the world. Suicide may be condemned in Islam, but suicide is clearly not the same thing as attacks which require one to

donate his life to Islam. Muslims have been called to war by Allah. When a Muslim martyrs himself to kill the enemy, it was not his choice, it was Allah's choice. Allah has used that Muslim to kill the friends of Satan. That Muslim will be rewarded in the hereafter for having his life taken by Allah for Jihad. He did not commit suicide. Those who commit suicide kill themselves because they are tired of life and want the easy way out, even if it means ending their lives without permission from Allah. This is not what a suicide bomber does. The suicide bomber has donated his life to Islam, to the Muslims, to Allah – in order to kill the aggressors and aide the greater good. The reality is that unless those nineteen men (May Allah give pleasures, delights, and young Maidens to them all)

gave their lives for Jihad, 9/11 would have been an impossible attack to pull off. The Muslims who are willing to do Jihad just do not have those resources. So today for Muslims to give their lives for Jihad, is often the only option. It is more effective and stunning, especially in the case of 9/11, than throwing bombs or going around shooting people. Ground attacks are simply insufficient as much of the time in this modern age and the enemy has more resources than us. Thus we must hit them where it hurts: Their economy and the politicians themselves. We fight with psychology and emotion, and we devastate them any way we can. This is what 9/11 did. The situation has then become clear: If directly giving our lives for Jihad is the only way we can fight,

“Suicide” operations become mandatory, since Jihad is always mandatory and we know from our Islamic sources that Jihad is perpetual. If we don't give our lives for this, the enemy will continue the aggression, and not only that – they would kill us in battle even if we fought them only hand-to-hand. Swords or guns, it doesn't matter. None the less, it's clear that the root source for suicide bombing is not Islam – but Judaism and Christianity, both of which have a story about a Prophet named Samson who killed his enemies (them, their wives, and children) in a situation which also meant killing himself. This is in the Bible, a book which praises Samson's deed as a Noble action. Christians and Jews must then ask themselves what their problem is with

Suicide bombing, or what should be better known as martyrdom operations. “And fight in the way of Allah with those who fight with you, and do not exceed the limits, surely Allah does not love those who exceed the limits. And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from whence they drove you out, and persecution is severer than slaughter, and do not fight with them at the Sacred Mosque until they fight with you in it, but if they do fight you, then slay them; such is the recompense of the unbelievers.” (2:190-191) “... All Sacred Things are under the law of retaliation. Whoever then acts aggressively against you, retaliate, inflict injury upon the perpetrator according to what he has

Islam while pregnant, who's fault is it if her unborn child is incidentally killed? We see from our Hadith that the Prophet (peace be upon him) did put to death guilty women, rightfully so: Sunan Abu Dawud Book 14, Number 2665: Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin: No woman of Banu Qurayzah was killed except one. She was with me, talking and laughing on her back and belly (extremely), while the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) was killing her people with the swords. Suddenly a man called her name: Where is so-and-so? She said: I asked: What is the matter with you? She said: I did a new act. She said: The man took her and beheaded her. She said: I will not forget that she was laughing extremely although she knew that she

would be killed. Sunan Abu Dawud: Book 38, Number 4348: Narrated Abdullah Ibn Abbas: A blind man had a slave-mother who used to abuse the Prophet (peace be upon him) and disparage him. He forbade her but she did not stop. He rebuked her but she did not give up her habit. One night she began to slander the Prophet (peace be upon him) and abuse him. So he took a dagger, placed it on her belly, pressed it, and killed her. A child who came between her legs was smeared with the blood that was there. When the morning came, the Prophet (peace be upon him) was informed about it. He assembled the people and said: I adjure by Allah the man who has done this action and I adjure him by my right to him that he

should stand up. Jumping over the necks of the people and trembling the man stood up. He sat before the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and said: Apostle of Allah! I am her master; she used to abuse you and disparage you. I forbade her, but she did not stop, and I rebuked her, but she did not abandon her habit. Many Muslims who are unwilling to face the reality which burdens us today ask “What about Muslims who died on 9/11”? They are

unwilling to see the truth that many Muslims living in the West and elsewhere have become Apostate (Kuffar), supporting their governments, and engaging in un-Islamic politics and elections. They have left the fold of Islam to support the way of life of the disbelievers and their leaders who do not rule by Islamic law (Shar'iah). inflicted upon you...” (2:194) “And if you take your turn, then retaliate with the like of that with which you were afflicted; but if you are patient, it will certainly be best for those who are patient.” (16:126) Bare witness to the Qur'an's clear and unadulterated commandment to make war with the oppressors with the same intensity as they fight us with. We can launch bombs at them when they launch at us. If we cannot do this, how else are we supposed to fight back and protect our cities from continuous bombings? These attacks are particularly condoned by Allah because the oppressors have killed the children and civilians of the Muslims time and time again. In fact, they have

specifically targeted our civilians. This doesn't mean that we round up disbelieving women and children one by one and shoot them dead, as has been done to us, but it does mean that launching bombs back at the oppressor is allowed, even if innocent civilians are being killed. The Muslims will stop fighting as soon as the aggression against them stops, and our lands have been liberated. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) may have said in a few scattered Hadith not to kill women and children, but this was pure guidance for the battlefield. Not only was it under the pretence that the disbelievers would not target our civilians, but that the Muslims would be able to fight them without killing their civilians. The Qur'an has given the guideline of the law of retaliation, and it,

the pure book of Allah, has the final word. But sometimes it is not possible to always avoid killing innocent people. We see mention of this, and a permission, in Islamic texts: Sahih Muslim: Book 019, Number 4321 It is reported on the authority of Sa'b b. Jaththama that the Prophet of Allah (may peace be upon him), when asked about the women and children of the polytheists being killed during the night raid, he said: “They are from them( the Kuffar).” Sahih Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 52, Number 256: Narrated As-Sab bin Jaththama: The Prophet passed by me at a place called Al-Abwa or Waddan, and was asked whether it was permissible to attack the pagan

warriors at night with the probability of exposing their women and children to danger. The Prophet replied, "They (i.e. women and children) are from them (i.e. pagans)." I also heard the Prophet saying, "The institution of Hima is invalid except for Allah and His Apostle.” However, the reality is that 9/11 was not an attack on civilians or innocent people. It was an attack on corrupt institutions; America's economy, which is financing aggression against the Muslims, and the politicians who give the orders for the aggression. If civilians, whoever they may be, go to these places to be attacked, and bring their children along, they are at fault for being there. These are places of sin, and all religions teach that there will be consequences both

in this life and the next for associating oneself with sin. Many, if not all religions, also teach that a parent can be punished by losing his or her kids, such is the story of the Prophet Job in the Bible. The fact remains, however, that most Westerners are guilty of crimes and are combatants who fight the Muslims, according to Islamic law. We already know that the punishment for waging war against Allah and his Messenger (peace be upon him) can be carried out in a number of ways, including death. And the actions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions show us that the meaning of waging such a war is not only done just by physically battling the Muslims, but by slandering Islam, supporting oppressors, or financing such terror. Islamic law does not in actuality

recognize civilians in a time of war. Islamic law divided people into two groups during war – combatants and non-combatants. Westerners have given the Muslims all the logical Islamic reasons to fight them, as they wage war against Islam in many ways. Many of them believe it is their duty to listen to their governments, and many even support their governments. A good percentage of those who do not do this still finance Crusades against Muslims by willingly paying their taxes which fund the aggression. On top of this, the most important point is that their governments are all elected into power by a majority's vote. Westerners a like have given approval of their politicians' actions by putting them into power.

Thus, they are responsible for the actions of their politicians. The situation would be different if the majority of these people refused to vote in elections and rioted against their governments. But this is not the case. They fight Islam with their beliefs. Because of these reasons, the Muslims have been ordered to fight and punish them. This is also why it is justifiable to kill all Western people who are on the Muslim lands, and especially why all the people living on the land of Israel which once belonged to Palestine can be killed – the Qur'an, as previously quoted, says to kill the invaders wherever we can find them. In an honourable situation, however, the Islamic thing to do would be to spare the women and children. But all honour has been taken from the

Muslims. We no longer dictate the means of war as we did in the past. Instead, we have been weakened, and we have been forced to use your dirty tools of slaughter, invented by Westerners; guns and bombs. Some arguments state that, like in the fate Allah gave to Pakistani politician Benazir Bhutto, Islam does not ever condone the death of a woman. This is blatantly false as it is stupid. In Islam, women are equal to men in the sight of Allah and are subject to the same punishments as men. In the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him), most, if not all women were of civilian class which is why the Prophet (peace be upon him) disapproved of killing them. Of course, it's also despicable if a woman is killed while pregnant, but if a woman decides to fight

case he should be stoned; one who goes forth to fight with Allah and His Apostle, in which case he should be killed or crucified or exiled from the land; or one who commits murder for which he is killed. Sahih Bukhari - Volume 9, Book 83, Number 17: Narrated 'Abdullah: Allah's Apostle said, "The blood of a Muslim who confesses that none has the right to be worshiped but Allah and that I am His Apostle, cannot be shed except in three cases: In Qisas for murder, a married person who commits illegal sexual intercourse and the one who reverts from Islam (apostate) and leaves the Muslims." The Muslims who live in fear of “terrorist” attacks as

the disbelievers do forget that living in the land of disbelievers is a sin, and that the Qur'an tells us to migrate for the sake of Allah to a believing land. Even further, they put themselves at risk during a time of war by living in the countries they do. A Muslim taking these risks should understand that they might be killed in an attack against the oppressors. Gathering in combatant buildings like the World Trade Center certainly doesn't help their cause. Yes, America may have temporarily benefited from 9/11 by invading Muslim lands and increasing their own security and profits, but their economy also had significant losses that day. Laden (may Allah be pleased with him) started a chain of events which will soon bring an abrupt ending to all injustice on the Earth. One of the most popular arguments against the justification of 9/11 stems from the most simplistic and pathetic arguments, all based on personal woes, such as “What if I'm killed in one of these attacks!”, “What if my family were killed on 9/11?”. These are all selfish ways to justify their own security. The naysayers only want to create an excuse for their country to do whatever it wishes, with no consequences. Muslims even do this because they prefer their Democracies, Republics, Capitalisms, Economies, and Dictatorships over that of a Shar'iah-based country. Humanity needs to start supporting humanity; that

is, to support the side of the oppressed – the side of those who do righteous war in the name of spreading peace upon the world, not in the name of conflict to increase one's wealth or power. The enemy Crusaders (Americans, Jews, British) have setup dictators and false-flag governments in virtually all our countries during the crusades. They have exposed our people to gambling, prostitution, pollution, and materialism, and also established military bases on our land. They have perpetrated atrocities all throughout the world, in Sudan, Kashmir, Iraq, and elsewhere. Then there's the fact that they stole Holy Land from the Palestinians and gave it to the Jews. They thought it would end there and that they could then live-out their definition of peace while our lands

lack Islam. But no. The Mujahideen attacked them and brought them knee-deep into wars they cannot win in Afghanistan and Iraq. You can we sure they (the Crusaders) won't stop there either. Soon their military will be defunct and their economy bankrupt. We will win. The September 11th, 2001 attacks on America actually helped the Muslims. These attacks sparked the reversions of thousands of people to Islam from all around the world, but particularly in America itself. When comes the Help of Allah, and Victory, And thou dost see the people enter Allah's Religion in crowds, Celebrate the praises of thy Lord, and pray for His Forgiveness: For He is Oft-Returning (in Grace and Mercy). (110:1-3) So 9/11 actually caused the growth of Islam. On top of this, many lessons were

learned. The world became more educated on the crimes America and Israel perpetrate and due to the aggressive invasions of many countries, there is an intense distrust of these governments. Now the Mujahideen don't even have to cross seas to battle the Infidels. They can battle them right at home in their countries. And by Allah, we see now today that the Mujahideen are witnessing great victories. The Mujahideen are not Angels, they are humans, and they do make mistakes. 9/11, however, was not one of them. The beauty of it was that it was not just an attack on oppressors, but an attack on a corrupt way of life. The collapse of their man-made structures and their papers they care so much about being tossed around to and fro in ashes symbolize the destruction of what they stand for.

Roots of Islamic Fundamentalism in Central Asia The roots of Islamic fundamentalism in Central Asia can be traced back to

Shami Damulla (Sa‘id ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahid ibn ‘Ali al-‘Asali al-Tarablusi al-Shami al-Dimashqi), a theologian from Arabic provinces of the Ottoman Empire who trained many Uzbek theologians. Shami Damulla was born in Tripoli, today in Libya, in somewhere between 1867 and 1870, and died in 1932 in Khorezm. He first came to Tashkent and settled himself there in February, 1919 after being forced to leave the Ottoman Empire under the

government of Sultan Abd al-Hamid II (1876-1909) which accused him of “Wahhabism”1. He was educated at al-Azhar university, Cairo and spent fifteen years to twenty years in East Turkistan (China) where he was a strong proponent of Salafi Islam. Upon his arrival in Tashkent, Shami quickly established himself as one of the leading religious authorities after out doing the top local cleric, Sheikh Maksud Qori, in a theological dispute. As a result, he was able to rise from his position in a second-tier religious post in the “mahalla” Uzbek community mosque to the Dasturkhanchi madrassa (al-Madrasa al-dasturkhanija), in the old town area of Tashkent. Here, he started giving courses and sermons which attracted the attention of the theological surroundings of the old town of Tashkent. As a strong proponent of Salafi Islam,

Shami Damulla aimed at replacing the local practices in the region such as pilgrimages to holy sites, wedding and funerary rites, which lacked any doctrinal bases and were mostly supported by the Sufi clerics or proponents of traditional Hanafi jurisprudence (the dominant school of law in Central Asia). He, therefore, called for all religious practices to be based on Quran and Ahadith that could reliably be linked directly to Prophet Muhammad {peace be upon him}. For this reason, the disciples of Shami Damulla later formed a community known as Jamaat Ahl al-Hadith, which propagated fundamentalist ideas. One of Shami’s disciples was Ziyauddin Babakhan, son of Ihsan Babakhan who was also his (Shami’s) disciple. Ziyauddin Babakhan also

served as the supreme mufti of SADUM (Spiritual Board of Muslims of Central Asia and Kazakhstan) that was established 1943 by Soviet authorities under Joseph Stalin. This was when Stalin surprisingly made a historic compromise with religion thus, rehabilitating orthodoxy and recognizing Islam 2. In 1945, Ziyauddin Babakhan went to Hajj with his father and in 1947 he was authorized to go to the Middle East for higher studies, most notably to al-Azhar University in Cairo. While in SADUM, Ziyauddin published several fatwas (religious decrees) against the local traditions such as saint worship, which he denounced as un-Islamic. His fundamental theological ideas were profoundly marked by the notion of a return to “pure Islam”. Some Hanafi scholars believe that the first Wahhabi in Central Asia was Ziyauddin Babakhan. He had been trained in Saudi Arabia between

1947 and 1948, and subsequent contacts with Saudi theologians may have strengthened their influence on him. While he was placed in Tashkent, his fundamental teachings started to spread in vast regions of Central Asia through madrassas (religious schools), particularly in the Ferghana valley. However, the real development of Islamic fundamentalism in Central Asia began in the late 1970’s when a growing number of underground religious circles, known as Hujras, started to emerge in various parts of the region, particularly in Ferghana valley. The two important figures with regards to the spread of religious circles were: Muhammadjan Hindustani (born 1892) and Hakimjon Qori (born 1898). —————- 1-Jeffery J. While Hindustani worked with in the Hanafi tradition, Hakimjon Qori was much more shaped by the ideas of Ibn Taymiyyah, which made him a disciple of the Salafi tradition. Hakimjon once studied under Hindustani in 1959 but broke with him early on, accusing him to be too respectful of the secular power and to have ignored the Salafi ideas. This made him much more fundamentalist than Hindustani but by 1970’s, Hakimjon’s own pupils began to break with him claiming that he was not sufficiently political in his orientation and that he was not willing to urge a militant engagement with the authorities in defense of the faith. Among these breakaway pupils were two important figures who later on shaped up the fundamentalist development in Central Asia: Allama Rahmatullah Qori (1950 – 1981) and Abduvali Qori Mirzaev (1952 – 1995). Both men were based in Andijan and were highly influenced by the writings of Muhammad Ibn Abd al-Wahhab and Sayyid Qutb. Works such as al-Wahhab’s Kitab al-Tawhid and Sayyid Qutb’s Fi Zilal

al-Quran were studied in Hujras (underground religious schools) in the Andijan region in late 1970’s. In fact, both Abduvali and Rahmatullah are reported to have traveled to Tashkent regularly in order to participate in an underground study group run by Egyptian exchange students in Tashkent in the late 1970s. Although, Abduvali and Rahmatullah had distanced themselves from Hakimjon Qori but they continued to accept his teachings. In fact, it was Hakimjon’s injunction to cleanse Islam “by all means necessary” that, later on, led the disciples of Abduvali to advocate the use of force. For these young disciples, Islam could only be present in its pure form if it was a state religion, something that was impossible under Soviet rule, a fact that turned the Soviets into their enemy.
