Recruiting Policy

- Every Cadet is strongly encouraged to attend one recruiting event and

participate in the Recruiting Incentive Program

- All Cadre and Cadets must be professional at all times. Any cadet who

misrepresents the organization will be subject to counseling and/or a

conditional event

- Semester Goal: conduct targeted recruiting events aimed at highly qualified

candidates from the specified fields of study. Goal is to recruit 50 cadets for

Fall 2014 and retain 35 cadets into the Spring Semester

Today’s Air Force ROTC recruiting mission requires a concentrated effort. At a national level, AFROTC seeks to recruit cadets with the aptitude, academic ability, and leadership potential that reflects the diversity of America--to ensure a high quality officer corps capable of leading the United States Air Force in the 21st Century. Recruiting efforts are focused on the quality of applicants, not quantity of applicants. In addition, as the Air Force continues to draw down on military personnel, the selectivity of officer candidates has been unprecedented. By recruiting the best-qualified applicant, Detachment 560 can ensure the success of the Air Force mission while simultaneously placing the applicants on paths towards successful careers as Air Force Officers. Essentially the axiom that defines the detachment’s recruiting methodology is “interest the qualified, don’t qualify the interested.”

How to Plan a Recruiting Event?

- Contact school: Career Services/Student Life office

- Explain who you are and why you want to conduct the event

- Notify Cadet Wing Recruiting Officer to confirm the date and to

coordinate volunteers to attend

‒ Obtain recruiting material from Capt Aguilo or Cadet Recruiting Officer

‒ Communicate your date and location with cadets at the detachment.

‒ Promote & execute the event

“ AFROTC stands for “Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC).” It is a military leadership program offered at more than 1,100 campuses across the country, designed to give men and women the opportunity to become Air Force officers while

completing an undergraduate degree. Our detachment is one of 145-host institutions serving over 30 cross-town universities in

the New York City area including Columbia, Fordham, and NYU. We are located at Manhattan College in Riverdale, New York, where students commute once a week to participate in various activities such as Aerospace Class, Leadership Laboratory, and

Physical Fitness”

Program Requirements

1. Must be a US Citizen or within six months of earning a US citizenship.

2. Must be a freshman in college or have at least 3 years of undergraduate school remaining and a student at one of cross-town universities. - You can complete the third year of the program as a graduate student if granted a waiver. 3. Must be physically fit and within height and weight standards.- The Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) is administered every semester and consists of a waist measurement, 1.5 mile run, 1 minute of pushups, and 1 minute of sit ups.- Height and weight standards are determined using the Body Mass Index (BMI) scale.

4. Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or greater for all college courses ever taken.

5. Must be able to complete the program before your 30th birthday.- This requirement can be pushed to your 35th birthday with a waiver.- Pilot candidates must complete the program and start pilot training before their 29th birthday with no exceptions.

6. Must pass the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT). - Usually taken during your second year. Must pass in order to qualify for an enrollment allocation (field training) 7. Must have an SAT score of 1100 or greater (Math/Verbal only), or an ACT score of 24 or greater to be considered for the program.

- In order to be competitive in the program and attend summer Field Training (FT), which is mandatory to commission as an Officer in the Air Force, students should have scores close to or greater than the following averages: Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater, SAT Score of 1100 or greater (Math and Verbal only)/ACT score of 25 or greater, & Physical Fitness Assessment Score of 90 or greater.

8 . Must be able to qualify medically through the Department of Defense (DOD) Medical Evaluation Board
