J22 INSPECT THE FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR MOUNTING, MOUNTINGBRACKET AND MOUNTING SURFACE

WARNING: If the supplemental restraint system (SRS) is being serviced, thesystem must be deactivated and restraint system diagnostic tools must be installed.Refer toAir Bag and Safety Belt Pretensioner Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) inthis section.

The air bag restraint system diagnostic tools must be removed and the air bag modulesreconnected when the system is reactivated to avoid non-deployment in a collision,resulting in possible personal injury.

NOTE: Diagnostics or repairs are not to be performed on a seat equipped with a seat side airbag with the seat in the vehicle. Prior to attempting to diagnose or repair a seat concern whenequipped with a seat side air bag, the seat must be removed from the vehicle and the restraintsystem diagnostic tools must be installed in the seat side air bag electrical connectors. Therestraint system diagnostic tools must be removed prior to operating the vehicle overthe road.

NOTE:After diagnosing or repairing an SRS, the restraint system diagnostic tools mustbe removed before operating the vehicle over the road.

NOTE:After diagnosing or repairing a seat system, the restraint system diagnostic toolsmust be removed before operating the vehicle over the road.

NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to thecustomer.

Deactivate the system. Refer toAirBag and Safety Belt PretensionerSupplemental Restraint System(SRS) in the Diagnosis and Testingportion of this section.

Inspect the front impact severitysensor mounting and make sure that

the retaining bolts are fully seatedand tightened correctly.

Remove the front impact severitysensor. Refer to Crash SensorFront .

Visually inspect the front impactseverity sensor, mounting bracket

and mounting surface for damage,corrosion or dirt.

Was a significant amount

of corrosion or dirt found,

the front impact severitysensor mounting bracketattached to the mountingsurface incorrectly or werethe front impact severitysensor bolts not fullyseated and tightenedcorrectly?

YesCLEAN, TIGHTEN bolts or REPAIRthe mounting surface as necessary.REINSTALL the front impact severity

sensor. GO to J34 .

NoGO toJ23 .

J23 INSTALL THE FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR AND CARRY OUT ON-DEMANDSELF TEST

Clean and repair the mountingsurface as necessary.

Clean the front impact severitysensor mounting bolts.

Install the front impact severitysensor. Refer to Crash SensorFront .

FLAG DTC B2296

Retrieve and record any flaggedfaults for use later in this pinpointtest.

Was DTC B2296 retrieved

during the on-demand selftest?

Yes
