Fancy Footy Footwork
This year, Years 2 to 6 have been doing a football after school club on Fridays. Conner, from North Yorkshire Soccer Academy, taught them most weeks when it was on. At the start of the club the children warmed up by playing a game of some sort. Then there were lots of different activities involving practicing football skills and at the end Conner split everyone into two teams to play a match of football using everything they had learnt. At the most recent club there weren’t many
3
children as the club got a bit less popular because some students moved on to other things. Lucas D said “It was really fun and I rate it 8/10!”
SATS
At school on the 8th-11th of July years 2
and 6 did their SAT’s. The reason we do
these tests is for educational reasons and
the government. The children were quite
scared and anxious at the start to have a
go at these tests, but it got easier when
they were almost over. The children tried
really hard and did extremely well. If you
got a report back for your child and they
did the SAT’s their results should have
been in their report. Afterwards, there
was a party for class 4 and a treat for
class 2. Everyone had lots of fun!
Fabulous FASS School
Disco By Brandon M and Wiktoria K
On the 11th
of May our school
discos happened, starting with
Key Stage one (class one and
two) who had their disco take
place from 3:30 till 4:30. Here
are some quotes: Laila and
Roxy happily said, “I liked the
song where you put your
tongue out!” and Kaiden
smiled and said, “Silly Steve
was very funny and silly.”
After that Key Stage two’s
(classes 3 and 4) disco took
place. Here are some quotes
from people about the school
disco: Katie replied happily,
“On a scale of 1 to 10, it was
11!” Willow sarcastically
answered, “It was very fun,
and I got covered in foam.”
Molly laughed and said, “I
really liked it especially when
he took us through the school
in a conga” and Cherrie said,
“It was weird and unexpected
walking through the school in
a conga.” After that class 3
and 4 had some snacks like
fruit-shoots, twirls, fudges,
water and crisps. Next they
had a dance-off, boys vs girls,
which the boys won. The
pupils danced to songs such
as Thriller, Happy and Shout
out to My Ex. Finally, (at the
end) everyone was exhausted
and looked like a red tomato
because they were so hot. But
in the end everyone had a
great night!

Year 3/4 Tennis comp On the 16th of June, some of class 3 went to Northallerton Tennis club to play in the tennis competition.
William said, “I liked it because everyone was happy.”
Everyone enjoyed it and tried their hardest. It was a tough competition and everyone was really proud of them.
Terrific Tennis
Competition!
On the 24th May 2017 Sarah,
James, Katie, Daniel, Adam, Willow,
Alicia, Isabelle and some young
leaders went to Northallerton
Tennis Club to take part in a tennis
competition to compete against 8
other teams.
Sarah (age 10) exclaimed, “I liked
playing against different schools
because there were various levels
of skill, so I got to play the best
and the worst!” The school won 19
matches altogether and we are so
proud of the team. We interviewed
Grace S (one of the young leaders)
and she told us, “It was a great
experience judging the tennis!”
The competition was a great
success and thoroughly enjoyed by
everyone. ”I am so proud of myself
because I got a new best!” Isabelle
told us proudly, and we are not
surprised if anyone else got a new
best as well.
An article reported by Willow N and
James T.
Class 3 had been learning about
atlases and globes and on the 25th
of May they performed a collective
worship about it; read on to find out
more about their amazing
performance…
Class 3 had made a PowerPoint
about going around the whole world
and the different continents and
some of the countries.
5
Here are some quotes from the
creators.
William said, “It was interesting
making the assembly”
Ruby said, “It was really fun!”
Here are some quotes from the
viewers:
Brandon exclaimed, “It was
interesting and I learned quite a
bit”
Wiktoria noted, “It was exciting
and fun.”
The children showed that they had
learned a lot about atlases and the
earth. Parents cheered and children
clapped. Altogether this was
amazing for the school and the
parents. The song they sang at the
end of the assembly was
exceptionally amazing- that was real
talent.
North Yorkshire
Show! By James G
On the 18th of June the North Yorkshire
Show took place at Camp Hill in Bedale.
Every one made an entry and some
children won a prize.
I ask three students for information
about how they felt when they got the
money and found out they’d won.
Molly said joyfully, “I felt happy and
proud when I got the money for 3rd”
Thomas said, “I like the money and was
happy”
Jack said, “It was extraordinary and I
loved the money”
Overall there were 26 winners from our
school meaning we got the award for
most prizes. The whole school were very
proud and everyone was very pleased
with their work.
By Eve and Lola, journalists
for the school
During the last half-term of
summer class 4 were preparing
their ‘make £5 grow’ projects to
sell at the summer fair on the 24th
of July in school. Make £5 grow was
an excellent fundraising idea to help
them learn about making profit,
6
using money wisely and advertising
products. It also helped them raise
money for the school’s charity this
year, Globals Make Some Noise. In
this project class 4 split into groups
and each one thought of their own
unique ideas for them to raise
money. Each group decided on a
company name and what they were
going to sell: Splashy Wash Car
Wash- washing cars; Keelyson & Co-
anklets, shakes and snacks, drawing
on demand and lucky dip; Bon-bon
Boutique- trinket dishes, charms,
popcorn, bows, fairy houses,
friendship bracelets and keyrings;
Random Wriggling News Agency-
Small toys, bookmarks, comics and
games. Also, Super Smoothies and
Pretty Plaques are doing exactly
what their business name says.
Lucie, team leader of bon bon
boutique, said, “We chose to sell
products we enjoyed making and
what we would use ourselves.” Some
groups told us that their favourite
part of the project was making the
products, whilst others noted that
selling products to different people
interested them the most. Overall,
it was a fantastic experience that
should make lots of money for
Globals Make Some Noise (please
talk to Mrs Montgomery for more
information about this charity). The
children loved the experience and
Willow rated it, “11 out of 10!”
Crazy Cricket Club took
place on the 5th June to 3rd
July at school. Peter
Keigthley (the coach) was
the best coach in the world. If you want
to find out more read on.
Jenson W, Spencer P, Ayken N, Ryan B.J,
Lewis W and James G played a variety of
cricket games. James said, “I loved rapid
caterpillar and Pete!”
Ryan said, “I love the 3 catch game, Pete
was the best coach ever!”
Spencer exclaimed, “I loved caterpillar
cricket.”
Pete said, “I loved teaching Lewis, James,
Ryan, Ayken, Jenson and Spencer. I liked
watching the six pupils improve in their
time.”
On the 7th of June 2017, some members of class 4 attended at the Kwik cricket competition at
7
the Northallerton Cricket club. The pupils who took at part were Ruby, Daniel, Lucas, Phoebe,
Miles, James G, Sarah and Grace B. They played many different
schools and really enjoyed playing. Everyone loved lunch because
they got a rest and found the food they had delicious! All the players
loved playing the matches. Most of the players preferred the batting to the bowling because they
thought it was more fun. Lucas said “It was very fun and we saw
some friends from East Barnby. Miles thought the first team was
the hardest to beat. The team didn’t get a medal but everyone
was very happy for taking part.
Fabulous FASS
Fair
The FASS summer fair- which was
on the 10th of June- was a hit. This
happened to raise money for FASS
and was held at Ainderby Steeple
Primary School. A group of parents
wanted to organise a fun day for
the children that also raised some
money for the school.
At the summer fair there was the
following stalls, Brick a Brack,
Plants, Raffle, Scrunchies,
Playdough, water or wine, face
paint, snacks, drinks and most
importantly cakes. Also Splashy
Wash Car Wash (a student-held car
wash from Class 4) was going to be
there but it was cancelled due to
the rain and a bouncy castle was
arranged but that had to be
dismissed as well due to bad
weather. Here are some opinions of
what other people said:
James T said, “I won playdough and
then sold all of my 16 pots for one
pound each.”
Eve E said, “It was fantastic and
had many fun activities to do.”
In conclusion the summer fair was
amazing and it should be done again!

Cool quadders!
On the 13th of June 20 people from KS2 went to
Sacred Heart School to take part in a Quad Kids
competition. The sports were: sprinting, throwing,
long jump and a long distance run. The
competitors were Henry, James H, Freya, Lily-
Rose, Essie-May Isabella W, Ruby R, Ryan, and
Danny from Y3/4. From Y5/6 Miles, Adam, Molly,
Annabel, Wiktoria K, Jack S, Sarah, Daniel, James T
and Alicia represented our school.
Henry T exclaimed “My favourite activity was the
sprint.” On the big run he thought it was quite
hard and he preferred the throwing more than the
standing long jump. He rated it all 10 out of 10.
Miss Sanders came back for Quad Kids and the
children were excited to see her there. They all
worked really hard especially on the big run! Y5/6
had to run 600 meters. Miles came first out of
y5/6 Ainderby Steeple Boys, coming 8th overall.
Sarah T came first out of Y5/6 Ainderby Steeple
Girls, coming 6th overall. Miles told us “I’m glad I
came eighth overall but my legs got tired at the
end, I got 9.5 in standing long jump!”
HAPPY HINDUISM
By Daniel
On Tuesday the 20th of June, Indri
came to school to teach the
children about Hinduism in class 4
but taught all the classes
because it was Hinduism day.
Indri told stories, dressed them
up, taught them Bollywood and
taught them about the religion.
Willow N said, “It was extremely
fun and I got to have a bow and
snake.”
James G said, “I absolutely loved it
because I got to dress up like
someone cool”
This symbol

The Hindu day was
terrific and was
very fun.

Crawling
Caterpillars! On Friday the 21st of June, every class in
the school got 5 or less caterpillars. We
got these caterpillars so the children
could learn more about wild life and how
the life cycle of caterpillars works. These
caterpillars were ordered online.
Everyone was so excited when they came
in and saw the caterpillars wriggling about
in their tub. Brandon M said, “The
caterpillars show you what wildlife is all
about and have been great!” Wiktoria K
said, “They were very interesting.”
Ruby k explained, “They’re VERY
beautiful.” All of the caterpillars have
turned into pretty butterflies and have
sadly they have been realized.
New Reception wow!
By wiktoria k and Ruby k On the 22nd of June 2017, the new
reception and their parents came to an
open evening. Mrs Sharp said, “It was
lovely to meet many new families and
see some we know very well.” It took
place in the school hall, there were
refreshments and a speech was given by
our head girl Eve E and one of our deputy
head girls Grace B. Eve E said, “The
evening was very informative and the
parents felt calm afterwards. Some of the
new children had come to the evening
and met Mrs Sharp. Jack S and James G
both said they felt over excited and really
proud because they are getting a little
one to look after. The new reception and
the other classes all took part in our
move-up mornings where the year ones
move into class 2 and the new reception
join Class 1.
Pump House
Museum
Class 3 went to on a
school trip to The
Pump House Museum
on the 29th
of June for
the full day.
10
Everyone enjoyed it
and liked the fact
that they could stay
off school. The
museum was making
history a fun
subject. Isabella said,
“I like the fact we
could handle
artefacts which were
around 1000 years
old.”
It was a memorable
school trip that was
very interesting and
fun!
Class 1 Picnic On Friday the 30th of June 2017 the
children from Class 1 and their parents
enjoyed eating all of their picnic food.
This took place in their classroom at
school and was based on a story they had
been reading: The Lighthouse Keeper’s
Lunch. We asked 2 children from class 1
what they had enjoyed; Poppy said that
she liked that her mum was there and
that she got to play outside. She had ham
sandwiches, fairy cakes and blackcurrant
juice. Then we asked Ashton and he said,
“I really like that my mum was there.” He
had a packet of crisps, a cake and some
egg sandwiches.
Memorable Ripon Cathedral
Leavers Service
Reported by Isabelle and Adam
On the 4th July 2017 the year sixes (Lucie,
Alicia, Eve, Isabelle, Grace S, Lola, Grace B
and Makayla) went to Ripon Cathedral to
join other nearby schools in a leavers
service. Read on to find out more...
They made a tryptic on one of the
windows. There were 3 flowers and a
stork with leaves with our names on
them; then there was a picture of them
decorated with butterflies and shooting
stars and 2017 and then pictures of them
growing up over the years. Isabelle and
Makayla got chosen to present it to
everyone else at the service.
At the end of the service everyone got a
blue wristband which said, ‘Living Loving
Learning’ on it. Isabelle B (one of the year
sixes) said, “It was a great experience
influencing the cathedral and I loved the
wrist bands!”
ROUNDERS RAINED OFF
On Wednesday 5th of July a group of
children from class 3 and class 4 were
supposed to go to a rounder’s
competition, however the classic British
weather let them down with the worst
rain we have probably ever seen. It was
cancelled but some of the children going
were not so bothered! A similar thing
happened with the rugby competition.

Magic Move-Up
Morning
By Molly and Annabel
On the 6th, 12th and 13th of July 2017, we
had our move-up mornings. 15 new
children joined our school, 8 girls and 7
boys. We have move-up mornings so that
the new children can see how school
works and see where their classrooms
are in the school. The new reception
children enjoyed looking around our
school and said it was an exciting day.
The year 5s enjoyed finding out who their
buddies were and meeting them. Molly
in class 4 said, “I am really happy with my
little one and loved meeting her.” Maisie
from class 1, who will be going into class
2, said, “In class 2 we made bookmarks,
stars and pictures. I rate the day 10 out
of 10. My favourite part of the day was
making the bookmarks.”
Many people in our school are looking
forward to next year and are interested
in learning new things!
Sex and Relationship
Education
On the 11th and 12th of July 2017, years 3-
6 had their sex and relationship
education. The reason why we do the
SRE is so that our children are aware of
what’s going to happen to them and
other people in the future, know what
sex is and means and how to stay safe on
the internet with inappropriate messages
on the social media. Class three did unit
two and class four did unit three.
Super Sport Day
A report by Sarah M T
On the 7/7/17 the whole school
gathered to do sports day in front of
their parents and family; it is a time when
pupils compete and show off their P.E
skills. Sometimes the parents, members
and pre-schoolers like to join in too!
We interviewed Leah S, Lilly L and Esther
N before sport day and this is what they
said Esther said, “I’m looking forward to
it because it will be fun to compete. The
races they did were the sack race,
running race, skipping race, bean bag
race (KS1 only), walking race (KS1 only).
After sport day we interviewed Lola R,
Adam R-J, Lilly L and Leah S. Here is what
they said: Lola said, “It was super fun, my
favourite race was the running race and I
even got a new personal best.” Adam
said, “Normally I would hate sport day
but I loved it, I didn’t get a new personal
best but my favourite race was the egg
and spoon.
The relay race was last, Beech won, Oak
came second, Ash came third and
Sycamore came last. Kian H had the last
quote and he said, “It was my first sport
day and I loved it because I won!”
It was a huge success!
12
Fantastic FASS Bingo
On the 5th of May and the 7th
of July, FASS organised a
bingo night for the whole
family. It was in the school
hall and was happening to
raise money. Daniel (age
10) said,” It was frustrating
because my brother won
something.” Ruby (also age
10) said, “It was amazing, I
liked saying winner winner
chicken dinner.”
Incredible Induction Days
From the 12th to the 14th of July, the Year
6 girls visited the schools they would be
moving to in September. Seven of them
visited Northallerton School and Sixth
Form College.
Eve E visited the school she would be
going to (St Francis Xavier) she said, “I
was nervous at first, but I soon became
relaxed because the school was friendly
and welcoming. I loved trying new
things!” They went to meet their new
form tutor and make new friends, a bit
like a move-up morning.
Alicia B said, “It was scary but
interesting.” Everybody really enjoyed it,
especially the fun activities they did. Year
6 can’t wait to see what’s in store for
them in September.
Jen and the Ignite Roadshow came to our
school from New Life Baptist church, on
Friday the 14th of July 2017. The crew
that came were Jen, Trevor, Bob {Robyn},
Sue, Isaac, Chloe and Diane. We had lots
of fun and played lots of games. We
watched a Veggie tales video based on
the story of David and Goliath from the
Bible. It was cartoon and the characters
were vegetables! The games that we
its dark in hereplayed were: - you had to
Pit of do skittles with a blindfold on-
Death-you had to collect balls from a
paddling pool- Bottle bead shake- You
have 30 seconds to shake some beads
from one bottle to another bottle.
13
Ella from class 2 said, “My favourite game
was the bottle bead shake because I liked
watching them do it in 30 seconds. I
really liked the song and my favourite
part was watching the Veggie Tales.
Amelia from class 3 said, “My favourite
part was the play because it was funny
and I also liked the song.
Class 4’s Colourful
Collective Worship
On the 17th of July class 4 pulled off an
amazing collective worship. It started at
2:30 and some of the pupils parents
arrived to watch.
Class 4 based there poems on two books,
The Tear Thief and The Colour Thief.
Class 4 made an amazing slide show to go
with the poems and the information
about them. The first part of the slide
show was the introduction about what
was going to happen and what makes a
good poem. There were four types of
poems that each child from class 4 wrote:
rhyming patterns, kennings, haikus and
acrostic poems. Alfie, age 9, said, “It was
amazing. My favourite part was when
they showed us the books that they were
inspired by. I loved the poems they
wrote. HOW DID THEY THINK OF SUCH
AMAZING POEMS?”
On the 18th of July 2017, Class 1 and 2
went to Danby on a school trip. They
witnessed some amazing views and had
lots of fun. The weather was gorgeous!
Jenson W said, “It was very interesting
and I liked playing all the games!”
They also played some fun activities like
Woodland Walk and Forest Hunting.
Olivia B said, “It was a great experience!”
Altogether, Class 1 and 2 had a lovely
time and learnt some new things.
SPORTING SENSATIONS
On Thursday 20th July
the school’s decathlon
was supposed to take
14
place in the afternoon but
unfortunately it was
called off due to bad
weather again…
Not all was lost though as
earlier in the term, KS2
had all taken part in a
mile run around the
field.
Ruby K said, “I felt very
tired out.”
The points the children
earnt went toward their
sports day total. Everyone
can’t wait until next
year’s run and decathlon.
Fingers crossed the
weather holds out!
Pizza Express
Leavers Meal.
On the 20th of July 2017, Year 6, Mrs
Watts, Miss Sanders, Mrs Sharp, Mrs
Simons and Mrs Campbell went to Pizza
Express for a leaver’s meal, to celebrate
the great times they had at Primary

Grace .B. exclaimed, “The food was really
yummy, I love that we have the
opportunity all spend time together
before we leave!”
Eve said, “The food was delicious and we
all had lots fun!”
Overall it was a nice ending to primary
school; everybody really enjoyed it! Mrs
Sharp said, What a wonderful year 6
group we have. We will miss them all
next year.”
Skip 2B Fit
On the 21st
July Friday there
WAS a skip to be fit SESSION
WITH Dave. The reason we do
skip 2b fit is to become fitter
in a fun way and learn how to
skip. Dave from skip to be fit
helped us.
Dave said: each class was very
good.
Leah said: I love skipping!
Jenson said: I got over 50 skips.
Oliver said: I got out of breath
very quickly.
Everyone enjoyed it
especially the teachers
watching the children skip
their hardest to beat their
record in two minutes.
