Thank you for your interest in the Aims Community College Paramedic Program. We are proud to announce our next

Paramedic Program rotations beginning Fall Semester 2020

As we did last year, we are particularly excited to offer not only our traditional schedule Paramedic Program that we have

always offered that completes in three semesters (Fall, Spring, & Summer), but we will also be offering an accelerated schedule

Paramedic Program that will complete in two semesters (Fall & Spring).

We are a CAAHEP accredited Paramedic Program and also offer an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Paramedicine.

Included with the application itself, you will find the following topic items listed below, as well as the appropriate page

number for each of those items. Please take the time to read through everything, so that you understand everything prior

to applying. The first six pages include information about the Paramedic Program at Aims Community College that you might

find helpful and might answer any questions you have about the program prior to applying.

The application itself begins on page 9. Pages 9 thru 16 are the parts of the application that must be completed, signed, and

turned in by the application deadline along with any other required supporting documents.

The application is a “Fillable PDF” document, so you can actually type all of your information into the application and then

just Save the document before printing it and turning it in. However, before you type all of your information into the

application itself, please save the application to your computer first. Then open the document up before typing in all of your

information. If you type all of your information from the download window, it wont save it.

The Aims Community College EMT - Paramedic Training Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied

Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and has been developed to provide initial EMT - Paramedic Education to the general

public. It is designed to provide instruction based on the National Scope of Practice for EMS Education Standards:

The Aims Community College Paramedic Program hereinafter will be referred to as the “Paramedic Program”.

The Paramedic Program at Aims Community College agrees to meet or exceed the requirements for EMT - Paramedic Training

as set forth by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs as well as those established by the State

of Colorado Department of Public Health Pre - Hospital Care Program which requires that all Paramedic Training programs in

the State of Colorado be CAAHEP accredited.

About the Paramedic Program: Traditional Schedule

This schedule includes lecture & lab classes, clinical rotations, & a field internship. The majority of lecture classes & all of the

lab classes are taught in a typical classroom setting & meet every Friday & Saturday all day. There are 3 lecture classes taught

in an online format that require students to have computer access to complete required Discussions, Chapter Notes

Assignments, Chapter Review Assignments & Chapter Exams.

During the Fall Semester, face to face lecture weeks of the course are scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a one hour

lunch break from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. During the Spring Semester, classes are scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with

a one hour lunch break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Lab weeks of the course are scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to approximately 5:00 p.m. with a one hour lunch break from 12:30

p.m. to 1:30 p.m. during both the Fall and Spring Semesters.

Hospital Clinical rotations begin after students have completed ACLS during the Fall Semester & will continue throughout the

Winter Break & into the Spring Semester. Those hospital clinical rotations will need to be completed by the end of the Spring

Semester prior to beginning a Capstone Field Internship. Students may be expected to attend clinical rotations on both the

Thanksgiving & Christmas holidays. This is a time when clinical sites often have availability for students.

The Capstone Field Internship rotations begin during the Spring Semester after the student has completed all of the didactic

sections of the course as well as having completed all of their clinical rotations and will continue throughout the Summer

Semester. Students will be placed into their Capstone Field Internship rotations by either the Clinical Coordinator of the

Paramedic Program or the Director of the Paramedic Program.

About the Paramedic Program: Accelerated Schedule

This schedule still includes lecture classes, lab classes, clinical rotations, and a field internship. The majority of lecture classes

& all of the lab classes are taught in a typical classroom setting, but instead of meeting on only Fridays and Saturdays, will

meet every Monday thru Thursday all day. There are still 3 lecture classes taught in an online format that require the student

to have computer access to complete required Discussions, Chapter Notes Assignments, Chapter Review Assignments and

Chapter Exams.

During the Fall Semester, face to face lecture and lab courses are scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to approximately 5:00 p.m. with

a one hour lunch break on Mondays thru Thursdays.

Hospital Clinical rotations begin after students have completed ACLS during Week 11 of the Fall Semester and will continue

throughout the Christmas break, but must be completed by the end of the Christmas break in order to begin an Ambulance

Internship in the Spring Semester. Students may be expected to attend hospital clinical rotations on both the Thanksgiving

& Christmas holidays. This is a time when clinical sites often have availability for students.

The Paramedic Internship rotations will start at the beginning of the Spring Semester after the student has completed all of

the didactic sections of the course as well as having completed all of their clinical rotations and will continue until completed,

but must be complete by the end of the Spring Semester. Students will be placed in their Paramedic Field Internship rotations

by either the Clinical Coordinator of the Paramedic Program or the Director of the Paramedic Program.

During Fall and Spring Semesters, lecture & lab classes follow a schedule in which lecture & lab weeks rotate. One week will

be all lecture content on the Friday & Sat. classes. The following week will be all lab classes. During lab, the lab stations will

contain skills and scenarios that are consistent with the topic that was covered in the previous weeks lecture class.

The lecture weeks during the Fall & Spring Semesters fall on the following weeks: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, & 13.

The lab weeks during the Fall & Spring Semesters fall on the following weeks: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, & 12.

Week 15 for each of those semesters is considered "Finals Week" where the student will be required to take a proctored

electronic Final Exam for each Lecture course they are enrolled in at the Testing Center for Aims Community College. The

Final Exam for each Lecture course will be due by the last day of the semester although the students can take those Final

Exams any day of that Finals Week.

on Mondays and Tuesdays and the lab days will all be on Wednesdays and Thursdays. During lab, the lab stations will contain

skills and scenarios that are consistent with the topic that was covered during the Monday and Tuesday lectures.

Lectures will rotate between Cardiology & Pharmacology on odd weeks & Medical & Trauma Emergencies on even weeks.

Week 15 for the Fall Semester is considered "Finals Week" where the student will be required to take a proctored electronic

Final Exam for each Lecture course they are enrolled in at the Testing Center for Aims Community College. The Final Exam

for each Lecture course will be due by the last day of the semester although the students can take those Final Exams any day

of that Finals Week.

Admission Requirements for the Paramedic Program:

In order to even be considered for acceptance into the Paramedic Program at Aims Community College you must meet the

following conditions:

Must hold a current State of Colorado EMT Basic, AEMT, or Intermediate Certification. (Preferred 1 - 2 yrs. experience)

Must hold a current American Heart Association - Healthcare Provider CPR Certification.

Must have successfully completed an Intravenous Therapy course with an Evidence of Course Completion.

Must have successfully completed a college level BIO Anatomy & Physiology course such as BIO 106 or higher.

This can be completed in the Summer Semester prior to the start of the program, but must be completed prior to the first day of class

Interview Requirements:

On the day of interviews, the student will be required to complete the following process to be selected into the program.

Review of the candidates EMS related experience and education.

Oral Interviews consisting of: (Medical Scenario, Trauma Scenario, & an Ethical Scenario)

EMT – Basic Entrance Exam.

If Student is Applying for Financial Aid

If a student is going to be applying for financial aid to pay for the tuition of the Paramedic Program, then they will be required

to declare either the Paramedic Certificate or the Paramedic Degree in order to be eligible for financial aid.

If a student declares the Paramedic Certificate, they are eligible for Financial Aid up to 150% of the credits included in the

Paramedic Certificate, which is 51 credits. Therefore, they are eligible for Financial Aid up to 75 credits. If a student has

already received Financial Aid for other college classes taken previously, those credits for those classes would count against

those 75 credits.

If a student declares the Paramedic Degree, they are eligible for Financial Aid up to 150% of the credits included in the

Paramedic Degree, which is 60 credits. Therefore, they are eligible for Financial Aid up to 90 credits. Again, if a student has

already received Financial Aid for other college classes taken previously, those credits for those classes would count against

those 75 credits.

If Student is not Applying for Financial Aid

If a student does not need to apply for financial aid to pay for the tuition of the Paramedic Program, and will instead pay the

tuition "out of pocket", then they simply declare the Paramedic Certificate or the Paramedic Degree and pay the tuition out

of pocket.

Paramedic Functional Position Description: Physician Signature Sheet

Qualifications:

Successfully complete an EMS Approved course. Achievement of a passing score on written and practical certification

examinations.

Must be at least 18 years of age. Generally, the knowledge and skills required show the need for a high school education or

equivalent. Ability to communicate verbally via telephone and radio equipment; ability to lift, carry, and balance up to 125

pounds (250 with assistance); ability to interpret written, oral and diagnostic form instructions; ability to use good judgment

and remain calm in high stress situations; ability to work effectively in an environment with loud noises and flashing lights;

ability to calculate weight and volumes, ratios and read small print, all under threatening time constraints; ability to read and

understand English language manuals and road maps; accurately discern street signs and address numbers; ability to

interview patient, family members, and bystanders; ability to document, in writing, all ramifications of such; ability to

converse in English with co-workers and hospital staff as to status of patient. Good manual dexterity, with ability to perform

all tasks related to highest quality patient care. Ability to bend, stoop, and crawl on uneven terrain; and the ability to

withstand varied environmental conditions such as extreme heat, cold, and moisture. Ability to work in low light, confined

spaces and other dangerous environments.

EMT Basic:

Must demonstrate competency handling emergencies utilizing all Basic Life Support equipment and skills in accordance

with all behavioral objectives in the National Standard Curriculum. Automated external defibrillation and intravenous

access are optional skills and curriculum.

EMT Intermediate:

Must demonstrate competency handling emergencies utilizing all Basic and Advanced Life Support equipment and skills in

accordance with all behavioral objectives in the Colorado EMT Intermediate curriculum.

EMT Paramedic:

Must demonstrate competency handling emergencies utilizing all Basic and Advanced Life Support equipment and skills in

accordance with all behavioral objectives in the National Standard EMT Paramedic curriculum.

Paramedic Functional Position Description: Physician Signature Sheet Continued

Certification of Tasks:

Receives call from dispatcher, responds verbally to emergency calls, reads maps, may drive ambulance to emergency site,

uses most expeditious route, and observes traffic ordinances and regulations.

Determines nature and extent of illness or injury, takes pulse, blood pressure, visually observes changes in skin color,

auscultates breath sounds, makes determination regarding patient status, establishes priority for emergency care, renders

appropriate emergency care (based on competency level); may administer intravenous drugs or fluid replacement as directed

by a physician. May use equipment (based on competency level) such as, but not limited to: defibrillator, electrocardiograph,

performs endotracheal intubations to open airways and ventilate patient, inflates pneumatic anti - shock garment to improve

patient's blood circulation.

Assist in lifting carrying, and transporting patient to ambulance and into a medical facility. Reassures patients and bystanders,

avoids mishandling patient and undue haste, and searches for medical identification emblem to aid in care. Extricates patient

from entrapment, assesses extent of injury, uses prescribed techniques and appliances, radios dispatcher for additional

assistance or services, provides light rescue service if required, provides additional emergency care following established

protocols.

Complies with regulations in handling deceased, notifies authorities, and arranges for protection of property and evidence at

scene. Determines appropriate facility to which patient will be transported, report nature and extent of injuries or illness to

the facility, asks for direction from the hospital physician or, emergency department, observes patient enroute and

administers care as directed by physician or emergency department or according to published protocol. Identifies diagnostic

signs that require communication with facility. Assist in removing patient from ambulance and into emergency facility.

Report verbally and in writing observations about and care of patient at the scene and enroute to facility, provides assistance

to emergency staff as required.

Replaces supplies, sends used supplies for sterilization, checks all equipment for future readiness, maintains ambulance in

operable condition, ensures ambulance cleanliness and orderliness of equipment and supplies, decontaminates vehicle

interior, determines vehicle readiness by checking oil, gas, water in battery and radiator, and tire pressure, maintains

familiarity with all specialized equipment.

Aims Community College: Background Investigation Acknowledgement Form

After interviews and testing have been completed, and the student is accepted into the Paramedic Program, the student will

be required to complete a Background Investigation of their personal information via a Criminal Background Check and Drug

Screen, which may include, but is not limited to:

Statewide Criminal Record Search (County Criminal Record Search in the absence of Statewide Criminal Record Search).

Federal Criminal Search, Social Security Trace.

Nationwide Sex Offender Registry.

Office of Inspector General (OIG).

General Services Administration (GSA).

Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) / Specially Designated Nations List (SDN).

Employment Verification, and a 10 panel Drug Screen.

The company Aims Community College uses for the Criminal Background Check and Drug Screen is HireRight and there will

be an associated cost of $81.50. The student should understand that the Background Investigation will be used by the School

to determine their eligibility for program admission and to participate in clinical activities in the School's Allied Health &

Human Services or Public Service Programs. The student should also understand that they may be asked to provide additional

information and that failure to provide information as requested will be considered just cause for denial of admission to the

Paramedic Program.

If the Background Investigation reveals information that could be relevant to the application, the designated individual or

committee within Aims Community College may request additional information from the applicant. The potential

Disqualifying Offense shall be reviewed on a case by case basis. Aims Community College reserves the right to remove a

student from any Allied Health Sciences or Public Services Program of study in the event a Disqualifying Offense appears on

any of the above mentioned checks. If you have any questions about what the Disqualifying Offenses are prior to applying

Aims Community College: Required Drug Screening Acknowledgement Form

As described on the Background Investigation Acknowledgement Form, a drug screening will be also required as a part of the

admissions process or as a condition of continued enrollment. The drug screening is included in the Background Investigation

performed by HireRight. After being accepted into the Paramedic Program the student will be e-mailed a link to HireRight to

begin their background investigation and urinalysis screening. After completing the online application through HireRight for

the background investigation, the student will be e-mailed a list of participating laboratories in which the student must attend

to give a urine sample. The student will have three days from the time they receive the e-mail notification of the participating

laboratories in which to have their urine sample collected. If the student goes beyond the three days allowed, an additional

cost may be incurred by the student in which to have their urine sample collected.

Some Aims Community College - affiliated clinical facilities may also require disclosure of a student's drug screening results

prior to permitting the student to participate in the educational program at the facility. A favorable review of this information

by Aims Community College as a condition of admission and continued enrollment is not binding upon a clinical facility. A

clinical facility may refuse to permit a student participate in the clinical practicum at the facility if drug screening results are

not provided, or if upon review of a student's drug screening, it determines the student is disqualified. The student should

be aware that a positive drug screen may render them ineligible to continue in an Allied Health or Public Service Program.

Students may also be subject to random or “For Cause” drug screens. Refusal to comply with such a request will result in

immediate removal from the Allied Health Sciences or Public Services Program.

Immunization Requirements: Must Be Completed By The First Day of Class:

All of the immunizations listed below are required by the Aims Community College Paramedic Program in order for the

student to attend clinical locations during the program. The Paramedic Program Clinical Staff will begin establishing clinical

sites very early into the program, therefore all immunization records must be completed by the first day of class. Additionally,

students may be required to receive additional immunizations other than those listed below throughout the program at the

request of clinical locations. Students will be responsible for that cost.

Remember: All immunization records must be official, meaning they must be signed / stamped and dated by the person

giving the immunization. Records must have the name of the facility where immunizations were administered.

Two (2) Negative Tuberculosis TST / PPD / TB Screening Tests:

Also known as a "2 step" or a negative chest x / ray report if you have had a previous positive TB test.

TB tests must be less than 9 months old and last throughout the semester the student is enrolled in.

Student may choose to have a blood sample drawn showing negative results for TB instead of the 2 step process.

Remember: A two (2) step TB test means that you will get the TB test injected and read 48 hours later. A week later you

will need to get another one injected and read again. Clinical sites require two (2) negative TB tests, no exceptions.

Remember: Official documentation must show the dates when the student was injected and read with a negative

reading, along with a signature or stamp with the location of the facility that provided the TB tests.

MMR:

Laboratory evidence of immunity (titer) to Rubella, Rubeola, and Mumps. 3 positive titers or:

Documented evidence of 2 vaccinations.

Remember that MMR vaccinations have a period of 30 days between the 2.

Varicella:

Laboratory evidence of immunity (titer) to Varicella (Chicken Pox). 1 positive titer or:

Documented evidence of 2 vaccinations.

Remember that Varicella vaccinations have a period of 30 days between the 2.

Hepatitis B:

Laboratory evidence of immunity (titer) to Hepatitis B. Positive titer or:

Documented evidence of completed Hepatitis B vaccinations series (3).

A signed waiver will be accepted in place of immunization only if you are current and in progress of completion.

Remember that Hepatitis B has a period of 30 days between the first 2 and 6 months for the 3rd.

Tetanus: Vaccine must be less than 10 years old. (DTAP, TDAP, etc.)

Flu Shot: Signed paper verification from a doctor's office or clinic.

Health Insurance:

Private health insurance coverage is required by some of the clinical sites; therefore, private health insurance coverage

must be in place by the first day of class and must be maintained throughout the entire program.

Aims Community College: Clinical or Internship Expectations Acknowledgement Form

The Paramedic Program will include clinical rotations as well as internship rotations as a part of the certificate program. Some

of those clinicals and internships will be offered in the same semester as the lecture / labs and some will require that the

clinical / internship is completed the following semester. An absolute requirement is that the clinical / internship be

completed no later than the following semester of the lecture / lab component.

The clinical / internship component for the Paramedic Program requires that students have the required pre-requisites

background investigation, drug screening, and shot records completed by established due dates. Students that do not have

those pre-requisites completed by the due date will be dropped from the clinical / internship class. This action may result in

the student having to repeat the program. Pre-requisite requirements can be found at:

Students enrolled in the clinical / internship portion of the Paramedic Program will be notified of the dates, times, and location

of their clinical / internship. Students do not get to select the schedule or the location of their clinical / internship. Students

must be available for the times selected for their clinical / internship as designated by the clinical / internship instructor

anytime during the dates scheduled for the clinical / internship during the semester. Students should also anticipate having

to travel up to an 80+ mile radius from Greeley to attend a clinical site. Students that do not attend the clinical / internship

on the times and dates as assigned will be dropped from class or receive an "F" grade. Delaying a clinical / internship may

result in the student having to retake the lecture / lab components of the certificate in order to qualify to complete the clinical

/ internship component of the certificate.
