Progression to HE and Free School Meals (FSM)The gap of 23.7% between successful applicants to HE in receipt of FSM and those not in receipt is an issue for the county.Nevertheless, the county has the 3rd highest rate in the region of FSM successful applicants at 11.6% There has also been a marked growth between 2008-09 at Level 2 in the %age of FSM students gaining 5+ A* -C (+11%) or % A*-C Including Eng & Maths (+4%). This should filter up through the system.

Aimhigher could add FSM into its targeting criteria if the LA wants us to.

Progression to HE of young Leicestershire people from low HE participation wards has risen by 35.9% between 2001 and 2009. The figure stands at 591 students.

Progression to HE of young Leicestershire people coming from the 4 lowest occupational backgrounds has increased by 16.4% since 2001. The figure stands at 766 students.
