clothing and tools •  The Agrarian Revolution changed methods in farming:

•  Jethro Tull invented seed drill • Enclosure movement – taking many small farms and

making larger fields, leading to surplus

• Population Growth and Change – because of enclosure movement, fewer farm laborers needed. More people moved to cities to work in factories

• Capital for Investment – British overseas colonial expansion had improved economy. Capital (money) was available to invest in mines, railroads, factories, etc

• Energy and Technology – coal used to power steam engines, water wheels for hydropower

• Child Labor: children as young as seven worked in textile mills or mines

•  Imperialism: a demand for more natural resources led to stronger nations exerting influence on smaller/weaker nations
