Class of 2022Pre-Enrollment Timeline

¨ High school counselor presentations to 8th grade classes on Friday, February 9v Students receive high school Program of Studies and freshman pre-

enrollment form

¨ Green pre-enrollment forms are due back to the middle school guidance office by Wednesday, February 14

¨ Students enter courses in PowerSchool in social studies classes on Wednesday, February 21 (AMSS) and Thursday, February 22 (AMSN), with high school counselors

¨ Students will receive course verification sheets the week of April 2. Changes to electives only, should be made on the course verification sheets and returned to the middle school guidance office as early as possible, but no later than Friday, April 20

REQUIRED COURSES:Placement in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and World Language are selected for students

Other required courses are Prep for College & Careers, Health, and PE I & II

ELECTIVES:Choose electives that add up to 14 total credits for the freshman year. If a study hall is taken, the student should have 14 courses but only 13 credits

Class of 2022Credits & Graduation Requirements¨ 47 credits required for graduation

¨ One (1) credit earned for each semester course passed with a D- or higher

¨ No credit for SRT or study hall

¨ Freshmen can earn up to 14 credits per year

¨ Passing scores on ISTEP+10 Math and English are required for graduation

Grade reporting and Transcripts

¨ Report cards e-mailed every nine-weeks

¨ Cumulative GPA and credits are updated each semester

¨ Attendance is vital to earning credits

¨ If a course required for graduation is failed, it must be retaken to earn the credit

Grades and Grade Point Average (GPA)

¨ Grades are cumulative for the semester

¨ The final exam counts for 15% of the final semester grade

¨ GPA is calculated at the end of the semester, based on semester grades

¨ Only semester grades show on the transcript

¨ Weighted courses add value to the simple GPA, creating the “Weighted GPA”

¨ Examples of weighted courses the freshman year are:Hon English 9, Hon Biology, Hon Geometry, etc.

HS Courses Taken in Middle School

¨ Courses will be listed on the high school transcript-with credit and grade factored into simple GPA

¨ To decline the credits, an Informed Consent Form must be signed by the parent; this form will be available in the fall of the 9th

grade year for parents. It may be signed at any time during high school

¨ When declining the credits, both semesters of the course will be removed from transcript

¨ When declining credits, students may move on to the next course in the sequence; however, the student will most likely need to fulfill additional credits for graduation in that content area

enrolled in a math or quantitative reasoning course during each year of

¨ A composite score of 1250 or higher on the SAT with a minimum score of 560 on the SAT math section and 590 on the SAT evidence based reading and writing section

Summer Courses for Incoming Freshmen

¨ Incoming freshmen may take one or two courses, which include Health and/or PE I through Indiana Online (formerly IOA)

¨ There is a $25 fee for AHS students to take Indiana Online summer courses

¨ Online registration for IO summer courses opens April 16. Courses begin June 4 and end July 19

PE I and PE II Waiver Information

¨ Incoming freshmen may earn a PE I and/or II credit, by participating in a school sport, marching band, winter guard, show choir, dance team, or competitive cheerleading

¨ The PE Waiver application and detailed information & guidelines are on the high school guidance website under “Student Resources”

¨ The PE Waiver application must be signed by the coach/sponsor/director and turned in to the guidance office at the end of the season, before a PE I/II credit will be awarded
