The goal is to build o world class research institute from scratch on the edge of the desert that would contain state-of-art facilities and would oct as on example of sustainable design. The University shall be one of the most attractive and outstanding scientiAc centres in the world that excel in creativity, innovation, and scientiAc research in speciAc strategic Aelds to support development and the notional economy. After the evaluation of several zones in Egypt, Qattara Depression was selected based on the potentials of this zone Such as Connectivity, Climate, natural resources, ease of access, topography and traffic distance to the main two capitols beside the site Potentials as o new source of water and energy in order to develop this Zone and to create o node/point of attraction to oct as on iconic urban development that con lead Egypt to o new era of quality, sustoinobility ,development and civilizotion."New Egypt". The Qattara Depression is o Desert Basin Within The Libyan Desert of North-Western Desert of Egypt. The Depression is at I 33m Below Sea Level contains the 2nd lowest point in Africa and 3rd in the world .Area is 20000sq km ,80 Km length and 120 km Width ,and its bottom consists of salt Pan. Filling the Depression with water by digging o 7 3 km Conal from the Mediterranean sea to form on artiAciol lake which will be able to oct as o new source of water parallel to the Nile which will give on opportunity to start o new community and use the vast desert spaces and exit the narrow corridor of the Nile.

Q. S. T. DESIGN CONCEPT AND GUIDELINES

The most important thing in designing in such environment is the sun and and its direct rays and temperature and thot1s why I get bock to the old Arabic traditions of getting ultimate use of the environment. The concept based on designing the spaces to be in shade most of the time and try to ovoid the direct sun rays to the buildings.

Design lines for the project were inspired by the surrounding environment and its criteria since nature is the mother of inspiration. The surrounding areas ore a deserted areas with a spacious space of rocks and sand dunes. Out of those marvellous creative lines, My design lines were inspired since lines con hove several functions in forming the buildings and its landscape. A line con start as a landscape and passing by to be a structure of a certain romp ending by being a wall of other building.

They allow minimal sun-exposure and therefore compactness and shade ore the main principals for building in hot-arid zones. They receive minimum radiation, break stormy winds, but ollow through ventilation and adequate natural lighting. A new approach has been developed, '1"roditionol Neighbourhood Development (TND)", featuring o pattern of narrow streets that encourage pedestrian and bicycle travel, and produce less storm-water run-off. Courtyards essentially promote oirfow within and around buildings. 1t was o simple design to enhance daylight availability in every room Daylight being o cool source of Light further reduces the cooling load The central courtyard provides more energy efficient and environmentally suitable buildings . Also, they reduce solar radiation and at night trees work against natural cooling by blocking long-wove radiation. Wind Catchers catch cold air from the higher elevation of the atmosphere and direct it through vertical passages into the in•erior spaces.lt is o necessity to lower the internal building temperature. Ubter evaporation con be deployed to lower air temperature through the possoges.ln dry climates, water-filled pottery is places in the passage, to assist in enhancing the climate. They decrease the noise levels in the interior spaces.

The task was to redesign the Dessou Campus of Hochshule Anhalt. The site is o mismatch of all types of architectural buildings, private/public, big/small and with no real signiAcont relation to each other. Unfortunately this spatial layout impacts the connectivity and logistics of the campus as well as local residents. The intervention aims to tackle this issue by providing comfortable spaces for students and residents to meet with bridges that will be implemented and will connect the program of the buildings to one another throughout the campus. Canopies will provide shelter as well as dynamism to refiect the overall ambitions of the University. With very little commercial activity close to the campus the intervention will provide more conveniences. These include better connections to the city's existing amenities as well as adding new ones to the neighbourhood. By employing three parametric scripts we were able to maintain consistency among the various ports of the project. The overall result is that of o uniAed campus and its connections to the city ore recognised as such.

03 REGGIO EMILLIA - BACK TO THE ITALIAN MAP OF HISTORY

REGGIO-EMILLIA DESIGN CONCEPT AND GUIDE LINES

The minimum number of new buildings had been added, in a traditional morphology and skin, to respect the identity of the urban. These new facilities are to serve the main concept of reflecting the historical heritage of the place in terms of public lifestyle activities.

The main philosophy is to Introduce the history of Reggio Emillio to the world through a visual attraction aspect then through living the traditional life style. The whole experience is a kind of targeting for the perception of the visitor to deliver the deep secret of Reggio Emilio. The concept is to achieve the physical expression of the original urban historical character of Reggio Emillio. The Main Features of the urban character hod been specified in terms of culture and historical identity aspects (Music, Food, Uniform, and the built environment} The as the main attraction elements, hod been exposed to the main ring rood with a clear visibility through two green plazas. The I st plaza is acting as on approach to the church, Heritage music house, Heritage food experience court and the Integrated culture center. The 2nd plaza acts as on approach to the local history panorama building, church and integrated culture center. The whole site works as a one unit since the 2 plazas ore connected by a green corridor through the culture center that is surrounded by the original walls which is saving the fiovor of the urban as a historical feature. All replaced trees as to be replanted in on order that emphasize the edge and axis of the new design. Heritage music house building and the local history panorama building ore acting as brackets that bound the site as a one unit.

The green network lines are connecting al l the project elements together . It guide visitors to navigate through the project, emphasizing gates and paths, act as a background for assembly areas, and allow a visual continuity towards the churches.

Wil l help in the revival of the history, through operating them as living buildings , instead of trea ting them as dead old antiques. They wil l be used as an optimum emitters for Riggio Emilia deep secrets in the history, and the most credible story tel lers for the place identity.

WHITE DESERT CONSERVATION CENTRE

EGYPT,is one of the most rich countries in the field of tourism concerning the Natural Sites,Wild Life and rich geological sites. Attention is directed in our present time towards those particular kinds of sites special the western desert which is covering o huge space of the western side of our Egyptian land. in the middle of this yellow dunes and desert ,a big white spot is shining there, this region called "The White Desert"

WHITE DESERT is something much different from any other several kinds of deserts,This one is considered as one of the biggest natural open museum for many scientific studies,Fossils studies and Wild life. Beside that W.D. contains many kinds of white coves ,Tombs ,Monuments and old Egyptian tools. This Huge collection belongs to the Prehistorical ages which is I 00% worth to be studied. Most attractive and wired thing in the W.D. is this unbelievable views of sand dunes mountains covered by o bright white colour like its o falling snow covered the whole area. ROCKS ,White ones with unexpected shapes and de constructed formations ,it's believed that those forms was performed due to the weather EROSION long time ago. That was o small intro about what does this white place got in its own bog.

As o contribution in developing this huge western deserts in Egypt i took the ideo of making A "White Desert Conservation Centre" in this area

WHITE DESERT DESIGN CONCEPT AND GUIDE LINES

The project lines and layout was a result that come out due to merging and making a mix between the to elements of inspiration. Using the functional inspiration wise to create a connection through all the project elements and try to apply some free lines and forms as a simulation for the white surrounding environment by applying the morphological inspiration wise. WHITE DESERT shapes as dunes and Rocks obviously express the irregular organic free formations beside the Sharp lines which were sculptured due to the natural Erosion through time. Because of this morphological wise ,those forms and free lines were captured for creating the project lines due to simulation of the surrounding environment.

New electronic world includes many sources and receivers ,due to make a precise communication to connect a source with a receiver the Chip concept has been developed with its complicated lines forms to review the meaning of this connection on its complex forms. This Functional performance will be reflected on the design of the project for applying on interrelationship between the project components.

Utilizing prevailing winds to achieve human micro climatic environment inside the ATRIUM through the natural ore-dynamic and redirection for the sun radiation. It's considered as on interactive space for renewing the energy of the scientists and to meet others from various sectored for experience exchanging during the day in their break times. Atrium is used to illuminate the spaces in need of the natural sun light.

LOUVRES ore mainly used for the research centre ceiling to cure the extremely power full sun rays existed in this port of desert which ore close to the Equotor, therefore Dynamic Louvres ore needed to provide a good amount of shadows. Louvres ore ore treated with a reflected gloss in between due to preventing the harm full solar radiation and allowing the desirable radiation to access the inner space.

NGHA NATIONAL GUARD HEALTH AFFAIRS

ADMINSTRATION OFFICES

PROJECT TYPE : Office Building FIRM : Zuhair Fayez Partnership "www.zfp.com" CLIENT : NGHA DATE : II 032011 LOCATION : Riyadh ,Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

"NGHA",Notionol Guard Health Affairs Is one of the most important clients for our Firm in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

NGHA Campus is like o small city, its o city inside the city,lt contains o main hospital and the officers housing, villos and oppartment with all the facilities needed for the campus. This Administration building is going to be established in Riyodh,Copitol of Saudi Arabia and it will be the main Admin Building for the NGHA. Iconic building was the main goal for the NGHA ,therefore we tried during the design process to concentrate on how to make on iconic building when its not o highrise one among the surrounding area which is full of other buildings and o main hospital.

NGHA DESIGN CONCEPT AND GUIDE LINES

The Rich Traditional Architecture heritage is what distinguishing the City of Riyadh represented in the architecture of Noid which owns a very special architectural vocabulary which reflects the special culture and the hard climate of Riyadh by using the solid exterior facades decorated with triangles as tiny openings which protect the internal environment from the sun heat and the dust in addition to the privacy of the residents of the building .

The Noid Urban fabric is distinguished by its Narrow streets and Iones, and so to retain as much shadow for the protection of pedestrians from the sunheot .The orientations of the main streets was perpendicular to the direction of the dusty winds to prevent its incursion within the complexes ,therefore the public area containing the cafeteria and the Mosied passage was designed to simulate this distinctive design of Noid streets.

MOl 350 BEDS PROTOTYPE 2 HEALING VALLEY

The goals of this proposal ore divided into three major approaches: ·~uman and nature ·~istorica ·Environmental

~uman and nature: In the eorlieost periods of times, humans hove noticed pattern in mother nature: night&doy, tides&lunor cycles, changing seasons and animal mi grotion. while discovering patterns conferred great survival otvontog es, we ore now in danger from our own success in multiplying our num bers and olterning those patterns for our own purposes. Integration between underground buildings and landscape as trodi tionol solution for climate changes overlooking on internal garden. Agreen hole in the desert creot o special environment for o small com munity to live around and overlooking this green interactive, safe and private space.

~istorical approach: In ancient culture, religion and medicine were linked. The earliest docu mented institutions aiming to provide cures were Egyptian temples. In the medivellslomic world the word "Bimoriston" was used to indicate o hospital establishment were the illness were welcomed cored for and treated by o qualified staff. Bimoriston AI Noury- Damascus 549 Heiry :Creating o healing environ ment with o central green courtyard preserving the privacy of patients inside the buildings Green courtyard allows o quite, comfort and relax space, creating o suitable healing space seproted from th eoutside world.

Environmental approach:

Saudi Arabia is o Iorge deserted land but its not barren. Rants adopt to the climate, such as cacti, osocios and tamarind which con grow while oases support planets need more water such as palms and fruit trees. Staggered buildings gorded in the mountains as the traditional saudi arabian culture used to be allows great shaded areas and ;ts not hiding the beautiful green view of the volley Solid walls as on esternol treatment and open courtyards inside creot o private spaces for those who ore inside with high level of privacy and comfort.

PRESIDENT MUSEUM GAMAL ABD EL-NASER HOUSE MUSEUM

PROJECT TYPE : Office Building FIRM : Shoboury & Associates "www.shoboury.com"

The firist w1nn1ng of the Ministry of Culture notional architectural competition for the museumificotion of the President Gomol Abdel Nasser house in Coiro.

CLIENT : Ministry of Culture DATE : 0 1-07-2009 LOCATION : Coiro, Egypt

The project mainly aims to conserve the house of the former president and reuse of some spaces for museum display and exhibition purpose. The museum scenario treated three different aspects of Abdel Nasser life through the reuse of the different spaces of the house. Some spaces where conserved for their highly historical values, while other where reused as museum galleries. The central courtyard was transformed into o museum foyer around which all services and itineraries were organized.

project is devided into 3 visit paths:

-I st path leads to the "Guest Area" which consists of the main saloon and another saloon beside the winter saloon beside that there is the main office of the former president where he used to meet his visitors and leaders at that time. -2nd path leads to on area we used to coli "He mode history" where visitor con witness different eros and main events and decesions during the period of his presidency. -3rd path leads to the "collectibles hall" where visitor con toke o close look on the private belongings of the former president of medols, decorotions, letters and others.

03 PRESIDENT MUSEUM-GAMAL ABDEL NASSER HOUSE MUSEUM

PRESIDENT MUSEUM DESIGN CONCEPT AND GUIDE LINES

In the house there ore some places with a quite small area which can't toke big numbers of visitors at the some time like the private office of the president and the saloons area. therefore during the design process in addition to create a waiting area. we thought about how the tours will be orgonised?,the Foyer has solved this problem by avoiding the full areas by starting another path of the other 2 which is not going to affect on the visit scenario, for example the area of the president office and the saloons ore full which ore in the visit path l,in that case visitors con be advised by the reception that instead of wasting time waiting for the path visit I to be available they con start their tour with the 2nd path and then go to

75 the I st one if it was ovoiloble,if not they con finish up the 3rd path and then gather in the foyer which is already the end point of all paths and then wait for the I st path to be free it sit was still not available.

The foyer is the main spot in this project. Musemificotion has some options and rules to follow, like giving the visitor a walkthrough that he must follow till the end if he wont to see all sections of the museum.ln this case we gave the visitor a chance of making his choice according to the tour he reserved and where he wont to start his tour . The foyer is the gathering point after the reception and the check in points. At the foyer the journey will start, Visitors hove 3 choices,3 paths to follow, oll of them start and end at the foyer.

Page 77: Ahmed Hammad - Selected Works

03 PRESIDENT MUSEUM-GAMAL ABDEL NASSER HOUSE MUSEUM

The Ideo was to reuse the spaces of the house to be a living museum, therefore we changed the main entrance of the house and we used another entrance for the museum which was the kitchen areo,it was very big as marked with the blue colour and it would be reused in any case. we wonted to create and wise reception area for entrance and exit and waiting plus a gift shop and security arches which wasn't not available if we used the main entronce, beside the foyer is the start and the end pint of the project so we wonted to make the next step after the reception is to be the foyer.

PROJECT LAYOUT

Montozoh in Alexandria, is distinguished from other tourist sites in Egypt in that it is o place where the post and present intermingle. For the history buff it is o pleasure to room around the vast estate where, before the July 23 Revolution, the royal family hod their summer quarters and where the palace and the Solomlek (annex) con be seen. For those in search of the beautiful beaches, Montozoh has facilities for rest and recreation. It has, in addition, magnificent gardens with royal palms that dote, most appropriately, from the royal era.

The Royal teo kiosk is designed as o small palace matching the Roman architecture style and it was one of the most important rites during the role of king Farouk ,Its called the Royal teo Kiosk due to the desire of the king to gather with his royal family and minsters to drink the Afternoon teo enjoying the weather and the sea and discussing the role of the country and its problems.

The task was to retrieve this rites and open the palace for public use and make o nice visit and pleasurable tour, with o way of displaying his royal collections of cups and silver trays and antiques and at the some time it could be use for the VIP characters and the governments meeting or o I st class presidential meetings which will ad o value and on enjoyment to those heavy meetings .

THE ROYAL KIOSK MONTAZA PALACE TEA KIOSK

The big-box style show case in the terrace contains o collection of antiques and historical pieces, those pieces ore presented as in their original place but inside o box for protection.

04 THE ROYAL KIOSK-MONTAZA PALACE TEA KIOST

We suggested to fix o vertical curtains covering all openings in the terrace zone, and to be controlled automatically with o remote to control the privacy of the space, these curtains ore mode out of FILET with some historical characters photos printed on them that ore related to the museum scenario. These Material allows the visors to enjoy the outside views even when they ore closed and through out the printed photos.

Due to its relation with the scenario and its historical function, the ideo of retrieving the Teo-Drinkin rite will affect positively to the visit of the museum and will odd o deeper meaning to it. Also it allows to hove the official meetings and gatherings for the VIP characters in o unique experience. Terrace plan showing different functions

Separations between the families and guests ore o mandatory, since the guests having their own entrance and o separated zone to hong and being hosted in, and its totally separated from the family zones who hove their private entrance also into their own family lounges and then separation to the bedrooms and other houses ports.

Its also prefer to hove o big family house when the kids grow up and get married and hove their own families, they would hove o separate place with the some building so that the family bond will lost as much as their life time lost.
