WE MAKE A LIVING BY WHAT

WE GET, BUT WE MAKE A LIFE

BY WHAT WE GIVE

The most favorite quote of Dr. Rajaram Jaipuria

We pay our heartfelt tribute to our beloved Founder Late Dr. Rajaram Jaipuria,

who has given us the real meaning of service to the humanity.

“When one performs his prescribed duty only because it ought to be done, and renounces all material association and all attachment to the fruit, his

renunciation is said to be in the mode of goodness”

Shrimad Bhagwad Gita

Jaipurias in Indian Industry: The house of Jaipurias is a well known name in the Indian industry for over a century now. It was founded by Seth Anandram Jaipuria much before Indian independence. Padma Bhushan Seth Mungtu Ram Jaipuria, son of the founder of the illustrious house of Jaipurias, was nominated to the board of the then Imperial Bank (now State Bank of India) of India way back in 1933. Though primarily the Jaipurias concentrated on the textile business and were the proud owners of the Swadeshi Cotton Mills which they took over from a European in April 1946, between 1942 and 1946, the Jaipurias had also built two airports for the government and promoted the Hindustan Mercantile Bank. Currently the flagship brand of the house of Jaipurias is Ginni Filaments of which Shri Shishir Jaipuria is the Chairman and Managing Director.

Jaipurias in Education: The House of Jaipurias tryst with Education started before independence of India. Seth Anandram Jaipuria Education Society runs various reputed schools and colleges in the country.

Jaipurias in Social Service: The J a i p u r i a g r o u p i s f u l l y

conscious of its Corporate Social Responsibility. The philanthropic spirit of late Dr Rajaram Jaipuria, a worthy son of Padma Bhushan Seth Mungtu Ram Jaipuria, has been carried forward by his son Shri Shishir Jaipuria as head of the trust and a chain of public guest houses, temples, charitable hospitals and educational institutions bear ample testimony to the spirit of Jaipuria for serving the poor and the needy.

Director's Message

Chairman’s Message

Management Education has changed track and gear in the Industry 4.0. Era. The challenge before Business Schools is no longer to prepare mere Business Managers or Leaders of Business, but to prepare Creative Individuals, Innovation Managers, Business Incubators, First Generation Entrepreneurs and Future Leaders for the Society and the World. Business education has a new purpose now, beyond “Creation of Wealth”. The focus has expanded to “Creation of Capacity” to maximize wealth distribution for building a more equitable and just Society.

The pace at which Startups are sprouting all over the World, and growing into giant multinational corporations within a short span, is unprecedented. The largest corporations in the world today are built by first generation entrepreneurs and some of them are the richest people on Earth. “Silicon Valley” in California has become the “Incubation Factory of the World” riding on creativity, innovation and spirit of entrepreneurship. Every Nation on Earth boasts of a “Silicon Valley” of her own. The Tsars of Silicon Valley have also raised the bar of Philanthropy.

College drop-outs like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, and School back benchers like Jack Ma have conclusively proven that “Creativity” has an edge over “College grades”. Also the Front Benchers like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos have created marvels out of Tesla and Amazon with their “Creativity”. They all have together, filled the students of all benches, with Confidence to stay Creative & Committed to their Life Goals, and achieving extraordinary. Warren Buffet used imagination and computers to such perfection that he became a cult figure for Investors world wide. There are many lesser known and not yet known people who are making useful contribution to the development and progress of society in their own ways. They all have three things in common. They have a Clear Goal, they are Committed and they are Creative enough to overcome hardship on their way.

Life is incomprehensible today without mobiles, tablets, personal computers internet and WiFi. Soon the World is going to see the magical impact of Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Robotics, 3D Printing, Block Chain and cloud computing, touching all aspects of our life. Some people will invent the technologies and some people will find new ways to apply these new technologies for benefit of masses. Some people will find new ways to optimize the new solutions. Put together, this is going to be the new algorithm of life.

Jaipuria School of Business prepares the students to understand and manage well the new algorithm of life, ahead of time.

We are living in the era of disruptive innovation

The question that beckons us “Are we future ready?”

| 06 | INFORMATION BROCHURE 2019-21 INFORMATION BROCHURE 2019-21 | 07 |

The future of work will increasingly shape the future of management education; it is not just about technology but also about adaptability and agility to rethink and reinvent learning. The need of the hour is to shift from teacher-centric learning to learner-centric education. This is no ordinary transition in the education system but a tectonic shift altering the way we have been educating students in schools and colleges for centuries. This fundamental shift to student-centered education will be a key enabler to develop future managers and leaders of Business. Technology has to play an integral role in the process of student-centric learning.

The focus of the new education system will be more on the process of learning or the ‘how’ part of the learning and the reason of learning or the ‘why’ part of learning, instead of only the content of learning or the ‘what’ part of learning. The content for learning is traditionally thought of as knowledge, which is called ‘information’ in this age of Internet. Knowledge is now freely available with the explosion of internet and social media like ‘freeware’. But knowledge is useless unless one has the skill and competence to make productive use of information. Therefore class rooms, laboratories and teachers continue to be relevant for helping the students understand the meaningful application of freeware, acquire the skills and ‘competency’ that translates information into value. Very few academic campus have been able to successfully blend skill and competence development with theoretical knowledge. I am glad that Jaipuria School of Business is one among those premier Institutes in India.

I am happy to note that the Jaipuria School of Business has constantly redesigned its academic programmes integrating technology with teaching and is catering to a generation that has grown up with new technology. The structured bias for practical application over theoretical information, is evident in every nook and corner of the Campus. Practice-orientation has made the students of the Institute, employable as soon as they complete their journey@campus. The Institute has been able to inculcate a passion among students to learn new skills as a life long habit. At the end of the 2-year post graduate program, every student proudly walks out of the campus with a diploma in one hand and a dream job in the other. The surest way to succeed in a profession is to practice, practice and practice.

I am glad that Jaipuria School of Business has lived up to the three core values of our group - Empower, Enthuse and Excel, in course of meeting its stated objective of preparing future-ready managers and leaders.

“The surest way to succeed in a profession is to practice, practice and practice”

“Our student will understand and manage well the new algorithm of life, ahead of time”

The way we live has changed in so many ways. What is more important is that while these changes have been happening at the micro level, these are but consequences of a macro-level change – a change that has taken place due to the advances in science, technology, geo-political equations, trade cycles and economic upheavals. The change will continue and when we will look back twenty years from now, we may be awestruck. Life in 2040 might bear no resemblance to life in 2016. Therefore its very crucial for survival of business to connect the dots between the present and the future.

It brings to the fore the need to be agile and proactive to adapt, be flexible, to respond, and mutate to changes in surroundings – the very basic principle of evolution. The Centre for Change and Development presents an avenue for keeping the students up to date and up to the speed of change in the e n v i r o n m e n t . T h e C e n t r e c r e a t e s opportunities for students to “adopt, adapt and adept” change by practicing change in simulated laboratory conditions. The activities undertaken under the Centre include formal and informal interaction and engagement with society and environment.

Human ingenuity has no limits. All resources are limited except the capacity of human mind to create and innovate continuously adding more and more value. Creativity at its peak can develop something out of nothing and many organizations have experienced huge success by harnessing employees' creative potential in the right way for the benefit of the Organization. Global business thrives on creativity. Disruptive growth strategies are founded upon the employees' creativity and fueled by technological advances and process innovation. The Centre for Creativity and Innovation organizes various activities that aim at bringing forth the creativity of the students and encourage them to think in an innovative way to resolve complex issues.

Through various activities that take place under this centre that include Admad Competitions, Student Seminars, Student Talk Shows, The Most Innovative Inventions, Brand Creation, etc., the students of Jaipuria School of Business hone their creative potential and keep their creative passion alive and ready for facing the real life world of business.

In 21st century, enormous amount of data is getting accumulated through the internet application environment. Companies are being valued on the basis of their efficacy in customer-centric data analytical prowess. Data analysis has become predictor of business fortune. Today, the field of data analytics is growing rapidly and “Big Data” has become a buzz word in Business.

The whole science of Data Analytics is going through a major transformation right now. This importance is driven by intense market demand and corporate are looking for people who have the skills for manipulating data and translating it into results. At JSB’s Centre for Advanced Data Analytics students get the chance to upgrade their analytical skills and develop capabilities to exploit data analytics for solving problems and identifying opportunities so that they can make better business decisions. They learn how to examine large data sets to uncover hidden pattern, unknown relationships, market trends, customer preferences, optimisations of services and other useful business information through live data of an industry.

Business Sustainability thrives on leveraging Diversity in the human race and building cultures of excellence around inclusiveness of all the human resources available to the Organization. It is said that those who erect walls around them get buried under that wall. Many empires, dynasties and business organizations have fallen and perished due to their inability to recognize the creative as well as destructive potential of human diversity. For long business managers assumed that diversity and inclusiveness were issues for the society and governments to tackle and the realization of the cardinal sin occurred only after the global economic meltdown that happened shaking the whole world with the collapse of the Lehman Brothers.

Banking institutions have woken up and regulators of the market economy have come down heavy upon business, that did not implore the sustainability issues and that failed to act proactively. The research into accidental sustainability led to the discovery of the strong linkage between respect for diversity and business sustainability in a world fractured by ideologues of intolerance. The growth of capitalism has been capped by intolerance and hatred that is spreading in the larger society making business difficult to thrive. Hence it is necessary to educate and inculcate the value of diversity and inclusiveness among young minds through various events and activities of practice.

Leadership matters, it has always mattered in history. There is no agreement among intellectuals on the process of developing leaders but there is complete unanimity over the qualities the most successful leaders exhibit. Theories of leadership provide deep insight into how successful leaders work but most learning happens when one seats on the hot chair. The Centre for Leadership Excellence has the vision and mandate of a laboratory of practice. The Centre is fostering an environment where emerging models of leadership can be explored and the theoretical and practical value of these models can be disseminated to the students through innovative modes of experiential learning.

The Centre organizes campus visits and talks by CEOs and CXOs who are established leaders of practice and creates opportunities for students to directly interact with the Leaders from different industries and corporates. The Centre activities are led by students and through organizing different events, indoor and outdoor, the students get opportunity to hone their leadership skills. Regular debates and seminars on emerging issues help the students assimilate the core leadership values of synthesizing and accommodating differences in perspectives and opinions. The students discuss great leaders and masters of the leadership craft starting from Socrates and Alexander to Mother Teresa, from Ashoka the Great to Swami Vivekananda, from Andrew Carnegie to Indira Nooyi. The role models inspire the students to follow their foot steps and also stamp their new footprints.

The right internship is an important aspect of the entire PGDM programme. In a continually changing corporate world, it is imperative for business school to prepare their student for taking on future challanges. Internship tenure not only add value to the degree but also define the future career path of the degree holder

Towards this objective, the concept of SIP is designed where students get learning –oriented work experience in the Industry on real time project. A live issue is discussed with the concerned Industry representative and a Project theme gets formulated and assigned to the student. A faculty –mentor from JSB takes personal responsibility to guide the student along with a trainer from the concerned industry.

The students are trained in “Business Research Methodology” in their third term as part of the curriculum where they learn about Data Analysis and Hypothesis Testing. The SIP continues for eight weeks usually from May to June soon after their third term examination. The faculty guide keeps a constant touch with the assigned mentee and his/her

Industry trainer besides paying a visit to their establishment premises at least twice to personally see their progress.

While on internship, students get the opportunity to bridge the gap between theoretical classroom learning and Industry practices. They have to capture large amount of data on various aspects of business and management functions in a scientific manner and they must apply the skills and lessons learned in the classroom in the real world of business and should test their hypothesis so formulated. Besides providing students with an exposure to the real world of business, SIP also provides networking opportunities.

The students, on completion of their summer internship submit a report to the Institute for evaluation by a committee appointed by Director. The SIP open the first window for students to get placed in the corporates.

The Students Hand Book, which is provided to student during their orientation programme mentions the detailed guideline for SIPs.
