1 ATI-REGION VII 2006: REVISITED he Agricultural Training Institute regional training center for Region VII- Central Visayas, now based in Cabawan District, Tagbilaran City, Bohol, has been in operation for the past 18 years. As the training arm of the Department of Agriculture, the ATI has been mandated thru Executive Order 116 to train agricultural extension workers and their clientele. True to its mandate (Republic Act 8435 otherwise known as Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act of 1997), the Institute assists “the local government units extension system by improving their effectiveness and efficiency through capability building and complementary extension activities such as technical assistance, training of personnel, improvement of physical facilities, extension cum research and information support services in coordination with state universities and colleges.” ATI designs and conducts training courses that suits the needs of its clientele specifically, the agriculture sector which include the agricultural extension workers, farmers, fisher folks, rural women, rural youth, and the agricultural entrepreneurs.     ATI-VII’S MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN 2006

    A. TRAINING SERVICES

    � For the year 2006, the ATI-Region has exceeded its target in terms of training

    courses. The Institute conducted a total of 109 training courses or 247.73% of

    its target covering the provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Oriental Negros and Siquijor.

    � From the 109 training courses conducted 15 (13.76%) were regular training

    courses while 94 (86.24%) were tie-up and assisted training courses.

    � ATI- Region VII has trained 3,979 individuals or 324.82% with 2,048 (51.47%) male

    participants and 1,931 (48.53%) female graduates

    � The Clientele include the following:

    B. FARM AND BUSINESS ADVISORY

    � ATI-VII served a total of 130 farm and business advisory services with 50

    Consultancy/Technical Assistance, 14 RBO Development, and 66 Marketing-

    related which benefited some 1,744 beneficiaries.

    � The Institute was able to set-up one (1) techno-demo on Systems of Rice

    Intensification (SRI) and one (1) techno-demo on Total Quality Production

    Management (TQPM). Likewise, 1 (one) techno-demo was also set-up for

    Tilapia Culture.

    C. INFORMATION SUPPORT SERVICES

    � A total of 20,893 print materials were developed/ reproduced and distributed

    in support to the training and extension activities of ATI-VII

    � Some 769 multimedia materials were likewise developed/reproduced and

    distributed to provide augmentation in the delivery of extension activities

    together with the 111 Audio-Visual Services.

    GOVERNANCE

    CENTER NETWORK DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (CNDP)

    � For the maintenance and improvement of center facilities, ATI-VII spent

    P128,508.04 for the vehicles and P32,310.50 for the ground and building.

    RESOURCE GENERATION

    � ATI-VII generated a total of P3.66 M from the use of facilities and services

    offered by the center, from tie-up trainings and from linkages with other

    institutions which include PCARRD, NAFC, LDC, and LGUs.
