Have you heard aboutan operating fluid calledAdBlue? It is requiredin most new Tractors,Harvesters and other dieselpowered farm machinery.

Whether you have or not, it islikely you will soon be drivingfarm machinery that willrequire this operating fluid andhere we explain what it meansto you as an operator of thistype of machinery.

Air1’s Agricultural Driver’s Guide to AdBlue®

What is AdBlue?

AdBlue is a vehicle operating fluid for anew engine technology. It is based ona high purity urea solution, therefore itis not a fuel nor is it mixed with fuel.If you have a machine that requiresAdBlue you will need to dispense thisproduct into an existing separate tankalready fitted to your vehicle.

What is Air1?

Air1 is AdBlue commercialized by Yara, the world’s largest AdBlue producer. It is also the world’s leading brand ofAdBlue, used since 2006 by millions ofheavy duty vehicles around the world.

Why do I need AdBlue?

Over the past 15 years exhaust emissionlimits have been lowered to helpreduce the amount of harmful toxic gas(including NOx) that is released intothe air. Farm machinery manufacturershave had to re-develop their enginesto comply with EU legislation Tier IIIband Tier IV. A new technology calledSCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction)is a proven system at reducing NOxemissions from exhaust gases. SCRis now fitted to most new drivablemachinery coming off the productionline, and it requires a reagent calledAdBlue to be sprayed into the exhaustsystem. AdBlue is used to create achemical reaction in the catalyst so thatNOx gases are converted to harmlesssteam and Nitrogen which are emittedfrom the exhaust pipe.

How do I know if I need AdBlue?

Your local Machinery dealer shouldadvise you at the time of purchaseabout your new machine and if it needsAdBlue. They can also provide you with AdBlue and any associated pumping equipment.

The next vehicle you drive may needAdBlue so become familiar of what tolook for. Look out for a plastic tank, smaller than the diesel tank, that willbe fitted on the body of the machine. It is likely to have a blue filler cap, whichis named “AdBlue”. On the dashboardthere will also be an AdBlue gauge, showing the amount of AdBlue left.

It is important to ensure that theAdBlue tank does not run dry, and thatit is never filled with other substances.Doing this may cause damage to thecatalyst which will not be covered byyour warranties. A machine that isempty of AdBlue may enter crawlermode, and will also be operatingillegally.

Is AdBlue hazardous?

AdBlue is a non-hazardous, non-toxic,non-flammable, non-explosive fluidand is, therefore, very safe to use. Itis a high specification urea solutionthat works with your catalyst to reduceemissions.

Where can I buy AdBlue from Air1?

Air1 is packaged in 1000L IBCs, 210L Drums or 10L Cans. These are available from your local AGCO dealer.

Why should I be careful about which AdBlue I use?

It is important that you only purchaseAdBlue from a reputable dealerin dedicated AdBlue packaging.Contaminants from unsealed packageswill cause problems to your SCRsystem. It is also important not to useold diesel/oil/other containers to transferAdBlue. AdBlue must remain at itshigh specification state to be compatiblewith your SCR system. Using a mixof any other type of urea will causedamage to your catalyst and injectorsystems. Repairs will not be coveredby your warranty. It is imperative torespect the investment that has beenmade in the purchase of the farmmachine you are driving.

Always use high specification AdBlue. This can be purchased from Yara whoseAdBlue brand is called Air1.

Air1 is a reliable, quality product whoseproduction and distribution processensures that you are guaranteedcontaminant-free AdBlue of the requiredhigh specification for your SCR needs.
