Dear Ms. Steele

I am applying for the position as an Early Childhood Educator base on the job posting I found on the Service Canada website.

I am currently a student at Centennial College and will be graduating in June, 2013, where I will be receiving my diploma as an Early Childhood educator. Upon graduating from Centennial College I will be a registered member of the College of ECE and the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care. I am a dedicated and hard working person with nine months experience working with children ages newborn to 5 years. I enjoy working with children creating developmentally appropriate activities which are created based on observing children to find out what their interests are. I have a very friendly and outgoing personality and enjoy working in a team.

I have an updated medical check including tuberculosis test, first aid certificate, cleared police reference check and my immunization records. I am aware that it’s very important for children to be in a safe environment at all times. Proper guidance strategies are very important for the growth and development of children. I am very excited and would very much like to join the team at your childcare centre.

I look forward to meeting with you, so we can further discuss in person how eager and excited I am to work in your childcare centre.

Sincerely

Aveline Sutton

Self Evaluation

Before I went to my interview I knew that it was very important for me to research and familiarize myself with the city of Toronto childcare centres. I went into the interview with a sense of what the ELECT document was about because I knew that this is what their program and all about. The main aspect of the interview process that I have to really work on is to find a way to relax more because I find that I was very nervous and missed some of the important parts of the questions. Another thing that I need to work on is being prepared with more solid questions to ask, because I find that at the end of the interview when the interviewer ask if I had questions, I froze and I could not remember what the questions were that I wanted to ask. I also think that I did not answer the questions as clear and precise as I should have because of nerves. Strategies I could use to relax more is to be more prepared by practising more, creating questions and ask someone to interview me. I could also prepare questions that I would like to ask the interviewer at the end of the interview process. I was comfortable answering the question in a very professional manner with proper English grammar but failed to answer questions fully, what I mean by this is, for example instead of saying “apply first aid” I said “attend to the child with the injury”. Therefore I need to practice being more specific when I am answering the questions and not assume that the interviewer knows what I am talking about. I feel that if I had taken some time and revise the ELECT document I would have done better on my interview. I had a part of my e-portfolio that I had printed to show to the my interviewer but nerves got the best of me and I forgot about it, even though I was holding the folder in my hand. I will be using the resources provided at Centennial College to help me prepare for future interviews because they can help me by giving me feedback on things that I do well and things I would need to improve on for when I go to a real interview.
