Our off-road tours are located at Fort McDowell Adventures on the Fort McDowell Yavapai Reservation.Our guides will provide a brief overview of the Tomcar experience that is about to unfold, includinginformation about its unmatched performance and safety features.

Shortly after arrival and a quick safety briefing, drivers are guided down a fairly mild road to get a feel for the Tomcars. After a couple of minutes, drivers and riders enjoy an Arizona off-road experience withplenty of varied terrain, including exciting climbs and daring descents that are all easily and safelymaneuvered in the Tomcar. Enjoy the ride as you explore a portion of the 28,000 private acres of thepristine Sonoran desert at Fort McDowell.

As the tour continues, the occasional pause in action will provide time to catch your breath from theexhilarating Tomcar tour, switch drivers if you would like, or just relax by snapping a few photos of thearea’s majestic Saguaro cacti and surrounding mountains. Throughout your tour, guides will share areainformation, including the history of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation and other tales of Arizona.

Kayaking on the Lower Salt River is quickly becoming one of our most popular river recreation tours. Our guests experience all of the wonder of being in the unique environment of a desert river, which provides a home for the greatest diversity of plant and animal life that our region has to offer. Theywill also be rewarded by the excitement and accomplishment of piloting their own craft on our fully guided tour; the easy currents and gentle nature of the river make it an ideal setting for both the curious beginner and the experienced veteran to get a little exercise and have a lot of fun! Our guideswill be alongside in their own kayaks to offer direction and interpretive information during the tour.Most of our guests will be comfortable sharing one of our tandem kayaks with a companion, and will enjoy the challenge of working together to maneuver around obstacles and traverse across currents.The tandem inflatable kayak is our tour standard, but can also be paddled solo.

Our gentle Class I river float offers an outstanding opportunity for our guests to experience the Sonoran Desert and explore one of its rarest ecosystems, that of a linear oasis in our otherwise arid environment. The river corridor is the home to over three quarters of all the plant and animal species in the south-west, and our knowledgeable guides will share their insights into this amazing environment; they will also be providing instruction, encouragement, and safety supervision for our tour participants.The character of this easy excursion is such that our guests can stay warm and dry in the cooler season, or swim and splash during the typical desert warmth. And we offer a variety of watercraft options to ensure that we can accommodate both the participant looking for a relaxing and informative area tour, or satisfy the visitor who desires a little more challenge from their outing.Our river adventures are conducted on both the Lower Salt and Lower Verde Rivers; we will choose the best area in which to operate your tour, to take advantage of the most ideal river level and recreational opportunity.

All of our SUP tours take place on a gentle section of the Lower Salt River, where the current is slowand the water is deep enough to minimize the risk of injury should an accidental fall occur. We willbegin by fitting all of our guests in life jackets, reviewing basic water safety procedures, and gettingan on-shore overview of SUP use. We’ll then head to the water to learn how to successfully launch aSUP while kneeling, navigate away from shore, practice standing up on the board, and gettingcomfortable paddling and steering. When our group is ready, we’ll proceed out into the river corridorto explore the riparian habitat, take in the views of distant mountain ranges, and refine the art andsport of stand-up paddle boarding.

From the earliest wanderings of nomadic hunter-gatherers, to the ebb and flow of migration from the great Meso-American cultures, to the initial journeys of European discovery and the intrepid expansion west by the settlers of the young United States, this region became legendary in the reports of those who traveled through it. The tales of bizarrely-armored plants and animals, of extreme changes in weather, of snow covered mountains standing tall above sunbaked plains, and of native people superbly adapted to the challenging environment, were all met with skepticism by those receiving the stories of returning adventurers. Our Guided Desert Hiking Tour will give you a chance to experience this remarkable ecosystem in the company of our expert guide staff. We’ll begin by meeting your group at their accommodations, and accompanying them to the trailhead; on the way, our lead guide will deliver a briefing on desert hiking safety, offer tips on staying comfortable, and oversee the completion of our liability release form. When our boots meet the desert, we’ll make sure that everyone has plenty of water, and we’ll be carrying some high energy snacks along as well. Our guides will open up this amazing resource with information, anecdotes, and observations of the area through which our carefully selected trail winds. We’ll examine the unique adaptations of our otherworldly cacti and desert vegetation, and discuss the life ways and survival strategies of the animals that make this arid land home. We’ll take note of seasonal blooms and migratory birds, and learn how settlers throughout history thrived on the surprising abundance found in this environment. The Sonoran Desert ecosystem which surrounds the metro Phoenix/Scottsdale area is the backdropto some of the most outstanding scenery in North America; this dramatic landscape is also hometo one of the most diverse plant and animal communities on the continent. For our guests whoare interested in combining a measure of personal challenge with an opportunity to gain a depthof educational appreciation of this unique environment, we offer our Guided Mountain Bike Tour.

The adventure begins with a tour overview provided by one of our mountain bike guide staff,who will accompany our guests from their accommodations in town to the start of our ride; thisorientation will include a briefing on desert travel safety, the logistics of the tour, the expectedtrail conditions, and the completion of release forms by all guests. Upon arrival at the trailheadour riders will find a well-organized cache of high performance bikes suited to a variety of abilities,all necessary support and safety equipment, bottled water and snacks for the duration of theexcursion, and an expert team of professional guides to provide instruction, supervision, andleadership for the day.

Our trails and guides are carefully selected to satisfy the varying levels of expectation found inany group. Some guests will desire a leisurely cruise with all of the interpretive highlights our crewcan provide. Some will want an invigorating workout in rugged and challenging terrain. NEIGHBORHOOD BICYCLING TOUR:All of the outstanding resorts in the Phoenix/Scottsdale metro area share a common attribute: they are located in an area with nearly-always beautiful weather. Our Neighborhood Bicycle Tour is an easy, relaxing way for our resort guests to participate in a casual activity and to see some of the beautiful, quiet suburbsin which our award-winning lodging is located. Our excursion begins on the grounds of the hotel, whereour experienced guide staff will ensure that guests are fitted with the correctly-sized bike; our expertly maintained fleet consists of multi-geared bikes specifically designed for ease of use and comfort on both paved bike paths and roads, and the occasional hard dirt surface along the banks of our famous canal network. We’ll put on our provided helmets, make sure everyone is familiar with the equipment and our safety protocol, and set out to explore the area. We’ll get a little exercise, enjoy the fresh air, and returnto the resort property with a greater appreciation for the Valley of the Sun.

FASTER® PERFORMANCE LAB TOUR AND ROAD RIDE:Road cycling has long been a highly competitive sport pursued by elite athletes; it has also become a serious form of recreation and fitness training diligently practiced by the dedicated amateur. For theaccomplished and frequent two-wheeled road warrior, Arizona Outback Adventures presents the Faster®Lab Tour and Road Ride. This event begins with a guided tour of the Faster® performance optimization facility; this unique service offers riders of all levels state-of-the-art training and equipment designed to maximize road cycling efficiency. In addition to 3D motion capture bike fitting, Faster® also houses North America’s only wind tunnel dedicated to cycling performance, as well as sophisticated training equipment, the recovery suite spa, and the advice and experience of pro-team cycling coaches.

After the guests have been inspired to train like pro racers during our tour of Faster®, our guests will be provided either one of our Trek Madone® (TCT carbon frames and Shimano Ultegra components) or oneof our Specialized Roubaix® bikes (FACT 8r carbon frames with SRAM Apex components). We’ll thenpedal off on a 1.5 to 2 hour scenic road ride led by our most experienced road bike guide staff, on one of the premier road tour routes in the southwest. Please note: this tour will be conducted and is intendedfor riders who are fit, experienced, and committed to getting a substantial workout. Maximum group sizefor this tour is 30 people.

It’s like a hike in the desert without the hassle of sweating. The Segway allows you to view the desert flora and fauna without all the encumbrances of vehicle windows and doors. The Segway provides a smooth ride and fun challenge while enjoying the beautiful sites of the Sonoran Desert. In the event of bad weather or excessively muddy unsafe conditions, tours will be relocated to the Green Belt tour in Old Town Scottsdale.
