3. SAFETY INFORMATION

Information on inland and coastal regulations along with accessibility can be obtained from your local Coast Guard unit, Environment Agency, Park Authority or similar national organisation.

3.4 BOAT SAFETY LABELSYour kayak is affixed with various safety labels at point of manufacture. These labels appear at specific locations on the kayak where safety is of particular concern. Safety labels should not be removed.

3.5 REGISTRATIONDepending on country of use, your kayak may need registration before use on certain waterways. Check with local environmental, waterway or coastguard authorities for details of local, regional and national requirements. Some areas may require that you register and display a registration number on the front of your kayak.

The U.S. Coast Guard requires that all power boats operated on the navigable waters of the United States must be registered in the state of main use; also, many States require registration in that state whenever boating on waters within their state boundary. Always contact your state boating authorities (andneighbouring states) for registration information on boats. Once you have been issued a number, it is best to affix it on the boat by printing it on the material with a permanent ink marker.

5.1 MAIN CHAMBER VALVES

There is one valve per inflatable chamber and the valve itself is split into two parts. By unscrewing the dust cap you will reveal a small opening which is used for inflation. By unscrewing the larger section of the valve you will reveal a larger opening used for deflation (see above illustration).

Inflation is achieved by pumping air into the smaller opening. This opening contains a no-return seal so air can only be added via this opening.

Because the small opening has a no-return seal, the kayak cannot be deflated by this opening. To deflate the kayak, unscrew the larger section to open the larger opening through which air can escape rapidly to quickly deflate the kayak.

1 To inflate the main side and floor chambers, use the push-fit screw nozzle. This nozzle is one of a selection included with your hand pump. Attach the nozzle to the hand pump tube via the bayonet attachment and ensure it is tight.

3 Push the push-fit screw nozzle firmly into the valve and screw tight. Inflate once secure

4 After inflation, remove nozzle and replace dust cap.

5.2 INFLATABLE SEAT VALVE

1 The inflatable seats use a twist valve for inflation and deflation. It is opened by twisting the valve anticlockwise until air flows freely through it.

2 Inflate the seats by inserting the correct nozzle into the twist valve. Push firmly to seat the nozzle into the valve.

3 Hold the nozzle and valve while inflating to prevent them separating.

4 After inflation and before removing the nozzle, twist the valve clockwise until tight and fully closed.

5 After twisting the valve closed, you can remove the nozzle.

5.2 CHILDSEAT VALVES

1 The childseat incorporates two types of valve. A twist valve (identical to the inflatable seats) is used to inflate the seat pad section. Inflate using the same method as the inflatable seats.

2 A second type of valve is used to inflate the backrest section of the childseat. This is a non-return valve and is inflated with the appropriate nozzle.

3 Once the childseat is inflated, check all valves are tightly closed.

NOTICE - All valves are shipped loose and need tightening before inflation.

CAUTION - ENSURE VALVES REMAIN TIGHT WHEN REMOVING PUMP NOZZLES.

6. GETTING STARTED

6.1 INFLATING YOUR KAYAK

1 Remove the kayak from its storage bag and unfold it on a clean surface free of sharp objects.

2 Before inflating the kayak, ensure all inflation valves are aligned with the holes in the outer fabric shell. Each valve should be positioned in the centre of the hole with an even gap around it before and after inflation.

NOTICE – It is easier to centre the valve while the kayak is partially inflated.

3 Fit the removable skeg before inflating the kayak. To do this, clip each end of the skeg into the slotted fittings at the rear of the kayak hull.

4 To inflate the side and floor inflation chambers, unscrew and remove the valve dust cap, push the pump nozzle (see 5.1) firmly into the valve and screw tight. Proceed with inflation using the hand pump supplied.

5 Partially inflate the floor chamber.

6 Partially inflate the side chambers, until the fabric cover shape begins to fill out. The kayak should feel soft or limp at this point.

7 Make sure the valves are aligned with the holes in the cover (see 6.1 step 2). Adjust the cover and/or valves to realign if necessary.

8 Next add air to the side and floor chambers in turn, until most of the wrinkles are gone and the kayak feels firm to the touch. Do not exceed the pressure of 1.5 psi for both the floor and side chambers.

9 When the kayak is fully inflated, unscrew and remove the push-fit screw valve. No air will escape as the valve incorporates a non-return seal.

10 When unscrewing the push-fit screw nozzle after inflation, hold the larger part of the valve to prevent it loosening.

11 Make sure all dust caps and valves are closed and screwed down tightly.

12 Ensure the drain plug is closed before taking to the water.

13 To deflate your kayak, unscrew the larger valve outlets to let the air escape. Once deflated, retighten the valve outlets and dust caps to prevent damage to internal valve components.

6.2 INFLATION INFORMATION

WARNING - DO NOT INFLATE USING A COMPRESSOR,

can be felt against the handpump while inflating.

The chambers should be inflated to 1.5 psi as shown on the pump gauge. The indicator needle should remain in the black section of the gauge.

6.3 OVER INFLATION

CAUTION - OVER INFLATION IS THE PRIMARY CAUSE OF LEAKS AND DAMAGE TO THE INFLATION CHAMBERS. DO NOT OVER INFLATE YOUR KAYAK.

Variation in temperature such as air, water or contact surfaces (i.e. sand, asphalt, concrete) will affect the air pressure within the kayak inflation chambers. You should avoid exposing your kayak to extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.

Cold conditions could result in some loss of air pressure and should this occur you should add some air (in line with the inflation guidelines) to maintain performance.

Hot conditions could result in the air inside the chambers expanding and increasing pressure. In this case you should let some air out of the chambers (in line with the inflation guidelines) to avoid over pressure.

Before paddling, be sure all the kayak’s air chambers are properly inflated.

7. ON THE WATER

7.1 RECOMMENDED CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENTWhile on the water you will need the following equipment:

Personal Floatation Device (Buoyancy Aid) - PFDs should be approved to the correct ISO/USCG standard and fit correctly with sufficient floatation for your size and weight.

Paddle - This kayak is intended for use with a double bladed kayak paddle and we recommend using a paddle between 200cm and 220cm in length.

You should also ensure you dress appropriately for the weather conditions. Remember that wind can cool you down quickly, even on warm sunny days. Additional clothing may be necessary.

Ensure that all equipment and baggage is stowed securely and does not impede your safe exiting of the kayak.

7.2 WHERE TO USE YOUR INFINITY KAYAKInfinity inflatable kayaks are perfect for use at sheltered beaches, in calm coastal waters, on inland lakes and on still or slow moving rivers.

You should avoid shallow rocky rivers and coastal rocks, as these are likely to damage your kayak. Also avoid paddling where there are many larger vessels present.

WARNING - DO NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM CAPACITY

AS SHOWN ON THE INSIDE OF THE KAYAK. DOING SO

WILL AFFECT ITS HANDLING, AS WELL AS REDUCING

STABILITY AND INCREASING THE CHANCE OF SWAMPING.

MAKE SURE LOADS ARE DISTRIBUTED AS CENTRALLY

AS POSSIBLE, WITH HEAVIER ITEMS IN THE BOTTOM AND

LIGHTER ONES ON TOP.

7. ON THE WATER

7.3 GUIDELINES FOR USAGEWhen planning a trip ensure you advise someone of your travel plans. It is your responsibility to be aware of and observe any rules and regulations applying to the area you are paddling. Be courteous to other water user.

Most areas have local laws and regulations about the use and equipment of small boats. You may wish to contact the relevant authority who will be able to provide you with the needed information. Some areas may require that you register and display a registration number on the front of your kayak.

After you have inflated your kayak and before you put it in the water, inspect your equipment for obvious signs of wear or failure.

When planning a trip ensure you advise someone of your travel plans. It is your responsibility to be aware of and observe any rules and regulations applying to the area you are paddling. Be courteous to other water users.

7.4 STAYING SAFEAll watersports are potentially dangerous however and in using your Infinity kayak you accept all associated risks and responsibilities. Be careful you do not overestimate your strength, endurance or skill.

If in doubt, ask a lifeguard or other trained expert and above all use common sense and good judgement.

a) Wind - Inflatable kayaks are very light and as such very vulnerable to the effect of wind. Especially when paddling in coastal waters, be extremely careful of offshore winds.

b) Currents - Rivers and coastal waters often have hidden

Page 28: Inflatable Kayak Owner Manualairkayaks.info/InfinityOwnerManualv8.pdf1 Inflatable Kayak Owner Manual Odyssey 375 - Three person kayak Odyssey 295 - Two person kayak Orbit 245 - One

currents which can prove extremely hazardous to swimmers and kayaks. Make sure you are aware of any river or tidal currents and if in doubt consult an expert.

c) Sharp/hard objects - Avoid sharp rocks and hard surfaces. They are dangerous to you and can damage your kayak.

d) Cold - The combination of water and wind can cool you down extremely quickly even on sunny days, so a windproof garment is often a good idea. Be sure to dress appropriately and carry spare clothing where necessary.

e) Waves - Ocean waves can be great fun on sandy surfing beaches, however on rocky shorelines and some beaches they can be extremely hazardous.

f) Sunburn - Whilst on the water, the harmful effects of sunshine are multiplied due to reflection from the water’s surface. If paddling in bright conditions, cover up bare skin where possible and wear sunscreen.

g) Clubs - There are many paddling clubs and professionalorganisations all over the world. They can be a great source of information on places to paddle, people to paddle with and most importantly, technique and safety practices.

8.1 DRAINING YOUR KAYAK

Do not attempt to lift or carry your kayak when full of water. Empty it first by tilting to the side allowing water to drain out. Water can also be drained using the rear drain plug. To remove any remaining water, wipe down with high-absorbing sponge.

CAUTION - REMEMBER TO CLOSE THE DRAIN PLUG AFTER USE.

8.2 CLEANING AND DRYING YOUR KAYAKYour Infinity inflatable kayak is made of very durable materials, proper care will increase the life of your kayak.

Before storing your kayak, make sure it is clean and completely dry before packing away. It should be deflated, kept out of direct sunlight and stored in its backpack. Avoid storage in extreme temperatures. If your kayak is exposed to freezing temperatures allow it to warm before unfolding. If a zipper is stuck or sticking, do not use to force open it. Clean the zip thoroughly using warm water and a small brush.

WARNING - DO NOT UNZIP THE OUTER FABRIC SHELL

WHILST THE KAYAK IS FULLY INFLATED.

8.3 FOLDING YOUR KAYAK When fully drained and deflated, carefully fold the kayak as shown and place it back into its backpack.

8.4 TRANSPORTING YOUR KAYAKDo not transport your kayak inflated on a car roofrack. Doing so may cause damage. Instead, deflate, fold and transport it inside the car.

Use care when transporting or storing to avoid sharp points or edges; they will damage your kayak. Use the carrying handles to lift your kayak. Never pull or lift it by the sides or attach any other device to lift or carry it.

9. REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS

9.1 CHECKING FOR LEAKSInfinity kayaks feature inflatable chambers encased in a toughNylon fabric outer shell for superior durability. However, if you suspect a chamber has suffered damage and is leaking, you should check for punctures.

NOTICE - Before removing inflatable chambers to check for punctures, ensure all valves are fully tightened. Sometimes loose valves can leak. Reinflate and check again.

To check the inflatable chambers for damage, deflate the kayak and unzip the outer fabric shell.

WARNING - DO NOT UNZIP THE OUTER FABRIC SHELL

WHILST THE KAYAK IS FULLY INFLATED.

1 Remove the suspect inflation chambers and check for obvious holes. If there are no holes visible, there may be small pinholes present.

2 To check for pinholes, inflate the chamber, submerge in water and look for air bubbles escaping. 3 Alternatively, cover in soapy water and look for bubbles made by the escaping air. If using this method, be sure to fully rinse and dry the chamber before repairing.

4 Repair small holes and tears in the inflatable bladders with the included repair kit.

9.2 REPAIRING PINHOLES

To repair pinhole punctures, locate the hole and work in a drop of adhesive. Allow the glue to cure for 30 mins before inflating.

9.3 REPAIRING LARGER HOLESTo repair larger holes or small tears, follow these steps:

1 Wear protective gloves when using glue (not included).

2 Remove any moisture and dirt from around the puncture.

3 Rub sandpaper around damaged area to roughen surface for good adhesion.

4 Use the light grey repair patch that matches the chamber fabric to cover the hole. Trim patch to 3cm (11/4”) beyond damaged area and round off any corners.

the fabric shell until it is in the correct position with the valve correctly aligned with the fabric hole.

4 The tips of each side chamber should overlap each other at the ends. To achieve this, pull the chamber past the end of the kayak and into the opposite side by 10cm.

5 The chamber should be positioned with the ends curving up slightly to achieve the correct shape when inflated. To check this, the chamber’s outer seam should be in line with the outer seam of the kayak.

6 After replacing the chamber, fully close the zips and ensure the valve is aligned with the hole in the fabric shell.

If you experience any difficulties inflating or using your kayak, see below for solutions:

Further technical information can be found at our website: www.infinitykayaks.com

Check valve gaskets and make sure the fabric shell is not interfering with the seal. The valve must be closed tightly.

Check for pin hole punctures - see Owners Manual for repair instructions.

If the air chambers are not aligned with the valves in the centre of the holes: a) Unzip the cover. b) Partially inflate the chamber. c) Realign the air chambers to the correct position within the fabric shell. d) Close zip cover and inflate chambers with the footpump provided. e) If the valve becomes impinged by the fabric, it can put pressure on the valve. To prevent this, ensure the valve stays clear of the fabric hole during inflation.

Ensure the air chambers are aligned.

If a zipper is stuck, do not force it open. Instead, wash with a toothbrush and soap and water. Rinse completely once opened. Never unzip the cover when the kayak is inflated.

Use the drain plug in rear of hull to drain water from the kayak and wipe down with high-absorbing sponge. Store the kayak inflated until dry. Do not place in direct sunlight to dry. Do not store while wet.
