Link 51, one of the leading manufacturers in the world with unique systems

Link 51 is one of the leading manufacturers of shelving and racking in the world with over 50 years experience both in the development and manufacture of racking and storage equipment. Link 51 is based in Britain and is represented in over 80 countries in the world. Their most important distributor in continental Europe is Saar Lagertechnik.

Global experience, the most modern, highly technical manu-facturing plants and continuous quality control guarantee constant top quality. The in-house quality demands for Link 51 products is so high that they not only fulfil international safety regulations but in many cases exceed them.

Probably the best known product in the world from Link 51 is the ingenious XL Pallet Racking system. This range is the chosen product for industry, commerce and state institutions when building pallet or drive-in racking, narrow aisle installations, platforms and rackclad warehouses.

As with all successful inventions, the principle is simple: XL Pallet Racking is a slot-together system. The unique shape of the connectors ensure that the beams have a positive interlock with the frames, guaranteeing stability and safety without having to resort to rear or lateral bracing. The system

has a selection of basic Com-ponents to meet the demand for any loading and height. The high quality epoxy resin finish makes frames and beams resistant to impact and scratching so that installations retain their attractive appearance for many years.

Link 51's EURO Shelving range is a versatile, clip-in storage system, that can be used to build up to 2 or 3-tier installations.

Saar Lagertechnik: a reliable Partner

Pallet racking: the most widely used application

6

Adjustable beam racking is the most widely used pallet storage system because a great variety of goods can be packed, transported and stored on pallets. Pallet racks are used in innumerable branches of industry and commerce making stock rotation fast and cost-effective.

Saar Lagertechnik plan and build universal solutions with

the XL Pallet Racking system. This system offers a wide range of applications covering a vast spectrum for storing goods of all shapes and weights. XL Pallet Racking is a functional system that ensures easy access and protection from damage. Whether for a high rise rack or a simple storage unit, the unique way in which the beams interlock with the frames ensures a rigid

connection, guaranteeing stability and safety.

Our brochure “XL Pallet Racking” will give you comprehensive technical information.

XL Pallet Racking

Narrow aisle racking for compact storage

Narrow aisle racking

When used for narrow aisle racking, XL Pallet Racking not only provides all the advantages of normal pallet racking, but also generates 50% more storage space, since the aisle widths can be reduced to a minimum.

The forklift trucks used for narrow aisle racking can store pallets up to 12m high. Installations that are higher than 12m are serviced by stacker cranes. Such special handling equipment is particularly viable in fully-automated,

computer-guided warehouses. For this type of storage, organisational numbering systems, using numbers or codes to determine exactly where each pallet is to be placed, are needed. Saar Lagertechnik will integrate a numbering system into the racking to suit your logistics.

In addition to having direct access to every pallet, narrow aisle racking also gives the operator fast movement, improved order-picking and simpler stock management.

Drive-in Racking: ideal for bulk storage

10

11

saar lagertechnik

Drive-in Racking

Where goods of the same type are stored in bulk and selectivity and stock rotation are not critical factors, Drive-in racking is ideal first-in, last-out.

Better space utilisation is achieved because drive-in racking saves space in the depth and height, without needing extra aisles. Space savings can be enormous, almost equalling block storage so that storage space can be increased up to 70%.

A special characteristic of this system is that the pallets are stored in the width on runners. These runners extend the full depth of the rack, and the forklift trucks drive into the structure to deposit or retrieve pallets. The runners are fixed to short carrying arms.

For drive-in racking as well, Saar Lagertechnik use the XL Pallet Racking from Link 51.

Mobile storage: maximum storage, minimum floorspace

12

13

saar lagertechnik

Mobile storage

Mobile storage installations are suitable for many products. Although the initial costs are high, mobile storage can be more efficient and therefore advantage-ous because floorspace is used more effectively.

The racks are mounted on chassis driven by electric motors that can move up to 500 tones at a time. Aisles are opened by simply pressing a button, making fast access to the goods immediately possible. Mobile racking is

especially suitable in temperature-controlled warehouses.

XL Pallet Racking and the Sipag cantilever racking system have shown themselves worldwide to be particularly adaptable to this type of storage.

Live storage: "first in - first out”

14

15

saar lagertechnik

Live storage: "first in - first out”

Live storage is the ideal format where products need to be stored and despatched on a first-in, first-out basis. Pallets are loaded onto inclined lanes of gravity rollers. When a load is retrieved from the picking face, the next pallet rolls into position, so that the goods are unloaded in the same sequence as they were loaded.

This type of storage plays an important role with perishable goods. Live storage is used in both manufacturing and distribution because the economic aspect is remarkable.

Once again, the XL Pallet Racking system is the professional answer to all requirements.

Longspan: for heavy, hand loaded goods

16

Longspan is a brilliantly engineered storage system particularly suitable for heavy or bulky items. With only three parts - frames, beams and a variety of shelves - Longspan can solve unusual storage problems both in the width and height.

Longspan racking is similar to pallet racking, as it consists of frames and a selection of clip-in

beams to accommodate different loading requirements. Thanks to the secure way the beams lock into the frame, a rigid structure is created that does not need bracing. The beams can be equipped with steel panels, profile panels and various strengths of chipboard.

Wide bays, good space utilisation

in the depth and height, low procurement and installation costs characterise the Longspan storage system. Frames with a range of heights and depths and beams suited to different loading require-ments make Longspan a versatile, clip-together, wide bay shelving system for professional storage.

Euro shelving: the multi-purpose storage system

18

Euro Shelving is a versatile system that can be used in all branches of industry and commerce for single bays or installations up to 3-tier high.

This system can be used to store heavy duty, hand loaded goods and small parts, and comes complete with a wide range of accessories, such as backing sheets, shelf dividers, bin fronts, etc. Frames and shelves are available in different strengths, widths, heights and depths to cope with an

enormous variety of demands efficiently and cost-effectively. The shelves are supported on locking clips which lock into slots in the uprights.

Cantilever racking for long items

20

Cantilever racking is intended to store long items, planks and other cumbersome goods and in particular long profiles, metal and plastic pipes as well as beams or wooden beading. Cantilever racking is important where fast and simple access to a wide range of goods is called for.

As there is a precisely calculated deflection factor for unilaterally loaded cantilever racks, we use conical uprights made of cold rolled steel. This obviates any hazardous narrowing of the operating aisles. Cotter pins give the load-bearing arms a powerful

connection to the frames so that they cannot be dislodged.

Individual, computer-guided calcu-lations make uprights of 12m in height possible, as well as arms up to 3m long. Depending on the centre of gravity, loads of up to 280KN (28 to) per side or 43KN (4.3 to) per arm can be achieved.

Because the goods stored exert high load stress, all components have been calculated with a safety factor of 5:1 (relative to the yield stress of the steel) and therefore exceed the demands made by regulations.

Edge protection, upright protectors and surface protection make certain that the installations keep their good appearance for a long time.

As an alternative, we offer a stabile and reliable system made of hot rolled steel profiles. Arms can be adjusted at increments of 100mm.

Our special product brochure will give you detailed technical information and applications for cantilever racking.

Self-service shelving from Saar Lagertechnik makes a perfectpresentation for your products

Modern engineering needs a modern environment. An optically suitable and appealing product presentation improves your sales' chances. Our self-service shelving is an extremely adaptable clip-together system. The basic components are suitable for all branches of industry, whether small single bays or the complete equipping of specialist super-markets are called for.

In addition, there is a wide range of accessories, from plinths and illuminated baffles, dividers and bin fronts for baskets and shelves, as well as perforated backing sheets and hooks. A wide selection of special colours completes the range. Our Self-service system will give you the perfect setting to market your products.

23

Multi-tier storage platforms - also suitable for customers

24

Multi-tier storage platforms can be constructed on pallet racking, shelving installations or steel structures. The racking or the steel structure forms the foundation on which the platform is installed. A floor of steel profiled panels - galvanised or painted - is laid out over the entire structure. On top of this we lay chipboard to form a perfectly closed floor.

Multi-tier racking installations offer optimum room dividers and at the same time making full use of the height of your building. What's more, this type of storage does not need expensive handling equipment.

Wooden handrails and aluminium liners to cover the edges give an attractive finish to the platforms, so that they can even be used for the buying public. At the same time they guarantee safety. Nowadays it is important to create functional, ergonomic but also attractive working conditions.

The wide range of Saar Lagertechnik's accessories make a large number of different applicat-ions possible.

Rackclad warehouses: complete turnkey projects

26

If you are thinking of extending an existing warehouse or building a new one, then a rackclad ware-house structure might be an excellent alternative. A rackclad warehouse offers organised storage without the expensive of a conventional warehouse building with racking, because the racking acts as the basic construction element for roof and walls.

The racking is anchored to concrete base plates, obviating the need for foundations. Roof and

walls can be built with a single or multiple skin with corresponding insulation making it warmer in winter and cooler in summer. This method of building incorporates the latest engineering techniques and complies with current building regulations.

In accordance with the customer's wishes doors, gates, automatic entry points, loading ramps, lighting, smoke extractors, etc can be added.

Fast construction time, low construction costs, durability and no expensive foundations are the outstanding advantages of choosing this solution. Rackclad structures can also be advantage-ously written off, since they are storage installations with roofing and walls and not buildings.

Saar Lagertechnik offer a cost-effective, turnkey modular construction system.
