Exam Preparation Courses

All lessons are 45 minutes long. ETC specifies a maximum class size of 14.However, our average class size in off-peak seasons is lower.

Classes may be in the mornings or the afternoons during busy periods.

Exam Preparation courses are 15 hours per week. Intensive options include 15 hours exam preparation, plus General English communication skills lessons.

B2 First and C2 Advanced courses must have at least 5 bookings to run the course. It is not compulsory, but students are recommended to start on the term start dates; please see page 5 for dates.

Premium English includes a maximum of 6 people per class for 15 hours per week, giving you more individual attention. If you would like to study Intensive or Super Intensive English the additional lessons may be in classes with more students. For Intensive English add £20 per week. For Super Intensive English add £40 per week.

Students aged 16 and 17 must have parental permission to study in adult classes.

Learn English online with our teachers. You will have lessons with other English language learners, in live online sessions.

Students studying 24 weeks on our combination courses will receive a Diploma in the specific subject. Students must be 18 years or older.

If you book this service, you will be picked up from the airport and taken directly to your accommodation.

Book a National Express coach from Heathrow or Gatwick airports for just £40 each way.

Coaches arrive at the Travel Interchange in Bournemouth.

Please note that one level normally runs for 12 weeks. Beginners are recommended to start on the term start dates.

When can I start? How can I pay?How long can I study for?

You can study for a minimum of 1 week. The standard course runs for 12 weeks. However you may take a longer or shorter course depending on your requirements.

Invoices will be in Pounds Sterling. A complete enrolment form should be sent to ETC with full fees. (Please note that the enrolment fee of £100 is non-refundable). Bank Charges must be paid by the sender.

You can start in class or online on any Monday.

It is not compulsory, but we would recommend starting at the beginning of the term if you are a beginner or following an Exam Preparation course.

ETC Residence FeesThe ETC Student Residence is located right next door to ETC - a very short walk from one building to the next! We have single, twin, triple and quadruple rooms (offering room only or bed and breakfast).

Students who stay in the ETC Residence benefit from not needing to pay for any transport between their accommodation and the classrooms. We offer wireless Internet in all rooms and there are study areas for those who want peace and quiet to work in.

Towels are not included in the price, but can be purchased from ETC Residence Reception. The rooms are checked by a member of staff every day and are cleaned every week.

What’s included?

Our adult residences consist of apartments with 5 to 9 bedrooms per apartment, making it a great place to meet people of a similar age.

All rooms are single rooms with a private bathroom and a shared kitchen and lounge. The rooms are self-catered and are situated in convenient locations with frequent buses to Bournemouth Town centre and ETC.

Students will be placed in any one of our adult residences depending on availability.

All our summer residences offer modern facilities and are fully furnished with equipped kitchens ready to use.

ETC can arrange homestay accommodation for you if you would like to stay with a local family. Many students who come to study at ETC choose this option, because living with a homestay is a good way to practise your spoken English outside the school.

You will have a comfortable, clean room with a desk to study at. Accommodation is half-board during the week (bed, breakfast and evening meal) and full-board at weekends (bed, breakfast, lunch and evening meal). Most of our families live on a local bus route, typically around 20 minutes.

If the student cancels with less than 1 week’s notice, a £100 fee and 1 week’s accommodation is payable. In order to comply with the 1 week cancellation policy, we must receive full payment and confirmation of your visa at least 1 week before your arrival.
