1) Applications for the College of Medicine and College of Nursing are open to freshman and for spring
semester intake only.
2) Department of Architecture is a five-year program.
3) According to the Regulations for Student Enrollment of the College of Education, the acceptance rate
of international students cannot exceed 10% of the admission quota, and transfer applicants will not
be eligible to apply (freshman only).
Applicant who applies as an international freshman (where both the applicant and applicant’s
parent(s) are of non-Korean citizens) may select first and second choice of major.

3. Eligibility and Requirements
A. Citizenship/Academic Requirements
1) Freshman (first year) student
Applicant must meet one of the following requirements:
a. A non-Korean citizen applicant with non-Korean citizen parent(s), who has completed (or is expected
to complete) regular high school/secondary education in Korea or overseas.
b. A non-Korean citizen applicant with Korean citizen parent(s), who has completed regular primary and
secondary education overseas.
2) Transfer Student
Applicant must meet one of the following requirements:
a. A non-Korean citizen applicant with non-Korean citizen parent(s), who has completed regular high
school/secondary education and has an academic record of minimum two years completed in an
undergraduate program at a regular four-year university in Korea or overseas.
b. A non-Korean citizen applicant with Korean citizen parent(s), who has completed regular primary and
high school/secondary education and has an academic record of minimum two years in an
undergraduate program at a regular four-year university outside of Korea. In case of two or three-
year college, only those who have graduated (or are expected to graduate) can apply as transfer
student.
Transfer student will be admitted as a junior (third year) student.
※ Notice about ‘Citizenship’
❍ Citizenship status is determined at the time of application submission.
❍ A Korean citizen who holds dual citizenship cannot be classified as international applicant.
❍ If applicant him/herself and applicant’s parent(s) were Korean citizens but renounced Korean citizenship,
one of the official documents must be provided as evidence:
- Certificate of Loss of Korean citizenship
- Family Register Certificate
- Any other official proof of document
❍ If applicant has a single parent, the legal parent’s citizenship will be considered for the applicant’s
eligibility.
B. Language Proficiency Requirements
Please submit one or more of the following documents:
1) A certificate from Korean Language Center at Korea University
2) A certificate in the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK)
3) A Certificate of Completion in Korean language proficiency (other than 1 and 2 above)
4) A standardized English proficiency test result: TOEFL (IBT), TEPS, IELTS (TOEIC not acceptable)
5) There may be exceptions for applicants who are native speakers of Korean or English.

※ Notes about Korean Language Proficiency
❍ Admitted applicant who has not achieved Level 4 or above in the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK)
at the time of one’s admission, is required to achieve minimum Level 4 or above in the TOPIK to fulfil
one’s graduation requirement.
C. Qualification for Examination Standard
Other qualification examinations taken in Korea or overseas, homeschooling, online courses, language
schools, and so on from the level of primary, secondary to higher education are not regarded as
regular school curriculum.
※ Notes about School Qualifications
❍ Only schools located outside of Korea are regarded as schools overseas. International schools located
in Korea will not be regarded the same as schools overseas.
4. Application Procedure
A. How to Apply: Online Application (http://oia.korea.ac.kr)
For those who may experience difficulties in completing the online application process, can apply and
submit the application and supporting documents either via mail or in person within the deadline.
B. Admission Criteria:
Evaluation is based on the submitted application and supporting documents only, assessing the
applicant’s academic ability, aptitude for their field of interest, language competency, academic and
extra-curricular activities, and so on. However, an interview or test on specific skills may be conducted
depending on one’s applied field of study. In such case, applicant will be notified in advance with
additional guidelines.

① The photograph (3x4cm) must have been taken within the last three months.
② Once the application is completed and the application fee payment is processed, there will be no
return of the submitted application form and supporting documents. There is no refund policy of
the application fee so please read the application carefully before submitting it.
There may be an exceptional case of full or partial refund of the registration fee (excluding the
administration fee) in the following circumstances only:
- when applicant is unable to apply within the deadline under extenuating circumstances such as
natural disaster, severe weather, military service, bereavement (through the death of a close relative
or significant other), serious short term illness or accident, worsening of a long-term chronic health
problem, civil unrest (evidence must be provided)
- when applicant’s application is assessed as grossly underqualified
★ If you don’t provide evidence within the deadline, your circumstances will not be accepted. If
you provide the evidence late, but you have a good reason for doing so, you will also need to
provide evidence of your reason.
★ In order for applicant to request for refund, a refund request form must be submitted for a
review.
★ Online application submission can be confirmed by printing off the submission slip. Please
make sure to print the application form, personal statement, study plan, and the mailing label
for your application envelope.

Applicant must submit authenticating documents if the applicant him/herself or parent(s) renounced
his or her citizenship, and the evidence must be supported by document.
(Family relation certificate, certificate of loss of Korean citizenship, family census register, and etc.)
6. Additional Notes for All Applicants
A. Important Notes for Submission
1) The application form, personal statement and study plan must be submitted online, printed out and
handed in together with supporting documents via mail or in person. For those who are not able to
access the online application must download (from the OIA website), fill in and hand in the offline
application form including the exact amount of application registration fee in cash enclosed in the
envelope.
2) All supporting documents must be original documents. If originals cannot be submitted, copies can
be submitted but they must have been certified as true copies of the original by the relevant
organization/institution or the International Education Team at Korea University upon submission.
3) Any documents written in a language other than Korean or English must be translated into Korean or
English by an accredited translator.
4) Admission may be rescinded if the applicant submits falsified materials or is found to have made
inaccurate statements. If applicant is found to be not fully eligible for the requirement, admission may
also be rescinded even after the admission has been granted.
5) Supporting documents such as academic transcripts and official certificates must be issued and certified
by the relevant organizations/institutions.
6) In case of early graduation, skipped grades, loss of transcripts, or loss of records for enrollment either
in or outside Korea, applicant must provide evidence.

7) If there is no consistency in the applicant’s name in the application form and the supporting documents,
it is the applicant’s responsibility to provide evidence that it is the same person indicated in each
document submitted.
8) If applicant’s family relationship needs to be confirmed (parents’ divorce, parents’ death and etc.), or if
applicant renounced Korean citizenship, the applicant must submit authenticating documents as
evidence.
9) When applicant has one’s scores reported directly to Korea University, one must provide one’s date of
birth, and full name in English, and the date of the examination taken so that the information can be
included in the evaluation materials.

10) Admitted applicant who is an expected graduate or still attending school/university/college at the
time of the application submission must submit a certificate of completion or diploma to International
Education Team, Korea University (#301 Dongwon Global Leadership Hall) by August 5, 2016.
11) Applicant falling under the eligibility of a non-Korean citizen applicant with Korean citizen parent(s)
must submit a certificate showing all records of entry and exit (from birth to the date of submission)
which is issued in the last three months from the time of the application submission. Applicant may
be disadvantaged or admission may be rescinded if the submitted documents are found to contain
false information or if the applicant’s entry/exit records cannot be verified because of the use of dual
passports.
12) If applicant residing outside Korea encounters difficulty in obtaining the certificate of entry and exit
records, one may allocate a power of attorney in Korea and apply for the record on one’s behalf.

B. Important Notes for All Applicants
1) A non-Korean citizen applicant with Korean citizen parent(s), who has been admitted for spring
semester 2016 cannot apply for fall semester 2016 intake at KU or any other universities in Korea.
2) A non-Korean citizen applicant with Korean citizen parent(s) can apply to KU up to a maximum of six
times per year regardless of the type or rounds of screening you applied for. Any applicant who has
violated this will be disadvantaged and have one’s application withdrawn by the university.
3) Applicant can choose to apply for either the first or second round of the 2016 spring semester intake.
However, applicant who has been admitted to KU in the first round cannot apply for the second roun
d. Applicant who failed in the first round can apply for the second round but one will have to repeat
the same online application process and submit the supporting documents again.
4) Evaluation scores for admission will not be disclosed.
5) Applicant may be contacted individually by telephone for additional document, if necessary.
6) The most accurate and frequently used contact telephone number and email address must be
provided so that applicant can be reached immediately in case of emergency from the moment the
application has been submitted and until the application result has been released and the applicant
is registered at KU.
Korea University is not responsible for not being able to reach the applicant because of the wrong
contact details provided by the applicant in the application form.

7) The application fee and supporting documents will not be refunded nor be returned to applicant
once submitted.
8) Admitted applicant must pay the deposit or the full tuition fee within the specified period to confirm
their acceptance and registration. If enrollment is not completed by the deadline, the acceptance
offer will be withdrawn.
- If applicant is found to have registered (including the payment of registration fee) in more than two
universities (including industrial college, college of education, and technical/vocational college) in
Korea during the same application period, the applicant’s acceptance offer will be withdrawn
immediately.
9) Please be noted that there may be few additional criteria which will be determined by the
Admissions Assessment Committee according to the admissions regulations at KU and it may not
necessarily be included in this booklet.
10) Guidance for the Consular Authentication/Apostille Submission
- Admitted student falling under the eligibility of a ‘non-Korean citizen applicant
with Korean citizen parent(s) for international admission for fall semester 2016
- Applicable documents: Academic transcript, certificate of enrollment, certificate of graduation from
overseas primary to secondary schools and colleges (for transfer students), statement of
extenuating circumstances (if applicable).
- How to submit: Applicants must receive the Consular Authentication from a consulate in the
region where one studied or provide Apostille from a designated agency.
- Deadline: August 5, 2016
※ If applicant does not submit the Consular Authentication/Apostille by the deadline, their admission
may be withdrawn.
※ Official documents issued by overseas Korean schools accredited by the Ministry of Education do
not need the Consular Authentication/Apostille.
※ Admitted student must read the ‘Important Notice for Students’ very carefully and follow the
guidelines.

8. Visa Application Guide for Admitted Students

1) CoA will be issued after the registration is completed, and ALL international students who need to
apply for D-2 visa or change the status of D-2 visa MUST receive the CoA issued by Korea University.
