ROAD RESERVEOpportunity to re-align Cambridge Road in the long term to improve sightlines for vehicles and pedestrians crossing at Tavern.

RURAL CONNECTION FOOTPATHFinal footpath location requires detailed site survey and engineering design. Existing property boundaries, infrastructure, road seal and site levels will influence final design and location. Localised cut and fill and relocation of roadside infrastructure will be required to accommodate footpath. Land acquisition may be required in areas where adequate width between road shoulder and property boundary cannot be achieved.

CROSSING POINTProvide safe pedestrian crossing point across Cambridge Road for access to Tavern.

Provide pedestrian linkages through to future Cambridge Football Precinct and Memorial Oval

Install street furniture such as seating, benches, bins and bike racks to create functional gathering spaces for the community.

Retain existing trees where suitable and underplant with low growing native species.

Street tree planting with integrated stormwater collection and treatment system (sub-surface). Tree species to create an informal avenue and improve the aesthetics of Cambridge Road.

Informal pedestrian plaza space to consist of wide, permeable pavement treatment allowing for parallel parking bays and minimum 1.5m wide footpath. Opportunity to integrate street art, lighting and wayfinding signage into footpath.

Generous parallel parking bays accommodate buses, motor homes and caravans creating a central hub in the town centre for tourist facilities.

Minimum 1.5m wide footpath/plaza space.Street furniture

Street tree planting to improve street aesthetics and reinforce the sense of a ‘town centre’

Retain and line mark parallel parking bays to south side of Cambridge Road.

Rain garden with gap kerb edge. Stormwater irrigates and filters through garden bed and tree pit.

Formalised parallel parking bays.

Painted on-road cycle lane (both sides)

Painted on-road cycle lanes accommodated through relocation of Cambridge Road centre line. Retain existing parallel parking to south side of Cambridge Road. INTENT: To upgrade existing gravel parking area to create a functional plaza space for

community and tourist use. Generous pavement widths allows for multi-use as footpath and market space and provides a central ‘meeting point’ for locals and tourists to Cambridge. Improves aesthetic appeal of town centre through formal street plantings and material finishes. Creates a street connection for the future Cambridge Memorial Oval upgrades.

KICK ABOUT LAWNManaged and irrigated open lawn area for passive recreation and ball sports.

PARK FURNITUREProvide seating at suitable locations in open space, minimum of 3 individual seats. Provide a mix of bench seats and seating with back and arm rests for elderly users.

FOOTPATH CONNECTIONFootpath to link with to Rose Court pedestrian connection when completed.

GARDEN BEDInstall and maintain garden beds with low native planting to soften views into park and to frame active playground and picnic areas.

PICNIC SHELTERProvide 5x5m, skillion roof picnic shelter with picnic table setting below. Install bike racks, water bottle refill station and rubbish bin facilities on paved hardstand. Connect picnic shelter to existing road footpath network for ease of access. Consider installation of sensor or timed lighting within shelter to satisfy CPTED principles. Picnic shelter location ensures strong passive surveillance from road and neighbouring properties.

CHILDRENS PLAYGROUNDProvide play equipment for a wide range of age groups to service the local community. Consider large climbing net for older children, swing set, basket swing and a toddlers combination unit. Incorporate nature play elements such as large format boulders set out in rings or spirals beneath shade trees. Install edging to full perimeter of playground zone to contain softfall mulch.

NATIVE BOUNDARY PLANTINGEstablish native gardens to perimeter of park. Utilise a mix of native shrubs, grasses and ground covers. Consider CPTED principles and impacts on adjoining properties when selecting planting species and densities.

GARDEN BED EDGINGProvide garden bed edging (low profile concrete kerb) to formalise the lawn and mulched areas and to assist in easy mowing and garden bed maintenance.

FEATURE SHADE TREESSelectively locate large growing shade trees such as Eucalyptus species to provide long term shade and scale to open space. Consider impacts on adjoining properties when locating.

STREET TREESInstall consistent street tree plantings along Blossom Crescent edge of park to create a green corridor, provide shade and improve street appeal of park.

Nature play elementsSwing set with basket swing Climbing netPicnic shelter and seating

The public open space that has been contributed to Council as part of the Cambridge residential subdivision represents approximately 2600m2 of land. This Draft Master Plan shows the future opportunities for the development of this land as a functional and aesthetic parcel of open space for the Cambridge community.

Open space should provide a mix of passive and active spaces as well as park facilities such as seating, shelters and footpaths for residents. Provision of these facilities has been balanced with ease of access and ongoing maintenance practices for Council work crews.
