Good Evening Everybody
Distinguished dignitaries on and off the dais, Dynamic Chief Guest of Today’s
function Dr.M.Beatrice Margaret, Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Thanjavur,
Revered Founder President of this citadel of learning Thiru.A.D.Jeyem Pandian, a
stalwart supporter of Women’s Education and Empowerment, the beacon light for
the thousands and thousands of women folk hailing from this rural backward area,
Beloved and benevolent Secretary Thiru.N.Kathiresan Prabhu, Eminent Vice-
President Dr.A.D.Jegadheeswar, beloved Madam Prema Jeyem Pandian, Revered
members of the College Committee, Respected members of NDE Society, learned
Heads of various educational and other institutions, staff of our sister concern,
members of A.D.J. family, elites of the town, special invitees, dear parents,
benefactors and well wishers, members of the press, my dear teaching and
administrative staff, dear students, ladies and gentlemen. Good evening to you all.
It is with immense pleasure and pride that I am here to present the activities of
the academic year 2016 - 2017.
Thiru.A.D.Jeyaveera Pandian and his brothers Thiru.A.D.Jawahar Pandian,
Thiru. A.D.Jeyem Pandian and Dr.A.D.Jegadheeswar founded this college in the
name of their parents A.Duraisamy Nadar Maragathavalliammal in 1975 the
period, in which access to higher education remained a day dream to the women folk
of this rural area. Thanks to the foresight of the visionary founders. The portals of
Higher Education were wide open to them. Now under the patronage of our Founder
President the college has recorded exponential growth. The college is offering 16
UG Programmes 07 PG Programmes 03 M.Phil Programmes and 06 Ph.D.
programmes.
This academic year commenced on 16.06.2016. The college has both Aided
and Self Financing Sections. Total student strength this year is 1796 including 1565
UG students 202 PG students and 29 M.Phil Research Scholars. 123 teaching
faculty and 60 non-teaching are rendering their valuable service.
Highlights of the academic year :
35th Graduation Day was celebrated on 24.02.2017. Dr.S.Bhuvaneswari,
Registrar Central University of Tamilnadu, Thiruvarur was the Chief Guest.
A total number 510 students have graduated this year. 354 UG, 123 PG and
33 M.Phil. scholars received their degrees.
18 of our students have secured University Ranks during the academic year
2015-2016.
Online student portal is installed in the college website to provide the needed
information to the students like Exam Time-Table, Results, etc.
Ranks Certificates have been issued from this academic year during
graduation.
A total number of 387 students were selected for Placement through the
campus interviews conducted by various firms and today they will receive
their appointment order.
UGC Expert Committee for the Extension of Autonomous Status visited our
college on 02.12.2016 and 03.12.2016.
An Indoor Stadium funded by UGC was declared open by the UGC Expert
Committee members on 03.12.2016.
UGC has sanctioned Rs.60,00,000/- for the construction of Outdoor Stadium.
Awards and Achievements:
Three of our faculty have received awards at National Level in recognition of
their contribution to the field of education and to the society.
Dr.V.Valarmathi, Head, Department of Zoology received the “Vidya Ratan
Award” from Economic for Health and Educational growth, Manadawali, New
Delhi on 24.09.2016.
She has received the “Asia Pacific International Gold Star Award” on
10.02.2017 from All India Business Development Association.
She was also the recipient of Swami Vivekananda “Shiksha Samman
Purashkar Award” awarded by the Economics Growth Foundation, Pal
Complex, Mandawali, Delhi on 20.02.2017.
Dr.A.Brema, Head, Department of History received the “Bharat Jyoti Award”
Certificate of Excellence for meritorious services, outstanding performance
and remarkable role, from India International Friendship Society, New Delhi in
a seminar organised by the Society on 12.05.2016.
She has received “The Best Citizens of India Award 2016” from the
International Publishing House, New Delhi.
She was also the proud recipient of “International Achievers Award” from the
International Institution of success and awareness organisation,
Indraprashtha, in recognition of her excellent performance and outstanding
contribution for the Nations Progress.
She has received yet another award titled “Bharath Ratna Dr.A.P.J. Abdul
Kalam Excellence Award” for outstanding individual achievements and
distinguished services to the nation on 14.01.2017 from International
Friendship Society, New Delhi.
Dr.T.Vasugi, Associate Professor of Tamil, received the “Senthamil Thilagam
Award 2016” and “Urai Tamil Oli Award 2016” from T.U.K. Karanthai Arts and
Science College, Thanjavur on 23.07.2016.
Dr.V.Uma, Director of Physical Education has received “Best Teacher Award”
from Tamilnadu Physical Education University, Chennai and Patanjali College
of Yoga and Research Centre .
Two of our faculty Mrs.R.Manimozhi, Assistant Professor of English and
Ms.S.Usharani, Assistant Professor of Economics have received their
Doctoral Degrees this year.
Dr.V.Viji, Associate Professor of Economics has obtained recognition as
Ph.D., Guide.
Five students of II M.Sc. Chemistry were given In plant Training at Chennai
Petroleum Corporation Limited, Cauvery Basin Refinery, Panangudi,
Nagapattinam from 09.01.2017 to 13.01.2017.
UG students of Chemistry participated in the State Level Inter Collegiate
Extravaganza Symphoria’17 organised by the department of Chemistry,
Jamal Mohamed College, Tiruchirapalli on 31.01.2017. Ms.C.Nivetha Lincy of
II B.Sc. Chemistry bagged the first prize in Chemic Model Competition. She
has also received the “Student Scientist” award.
Mrs.G.Sudha, who did research under the Guidance of Dr.(Ms.)R.Sophia
Porchelvi, Controller of Examinations, was awarded Ph.D.,on 16.09.2016.
Ms.R.Rooba Vithiya who did Ph.D., under the Guidance of
Dr.G.Madhurambal, Former HOD of Chemistry, was awarded Ph.D., on
21.10.2016.
5 students of II M.Com attended the seminar on “Entrepreneurial
Opportunities in Indigenous and Expert Industries for Women and Youth”,
organised by the Department of Women Studies, Bharathidasan University,
Khajamalai Campus, Thiruchirappalli and Women Entrepreneurs Association
of Tamil Nadu on 24.06.2016 and 25.06.2016.
5 students from II M.Com. participated in the Basic Training programme in
“Human Rights” organised by the National Human Rights Commission on
05.08.2016 at A.V.V.M. Sri Pushpam College, Poondi, Thanjavur.
On 23.09.2016, 5 M.Phil. scholars attended the seminar on “Modern Banking”
organised by A.R.C.Viswanathan College, Mayiladuthurai.
7 students of II M.C.A. attended and presented papers in the National seminar
on “Recent Trends in Computer Science and Applications” organised by the
Department of Computer Science, Rabiammal College for Women, Thiruvarur
on 23.09.2016 & 24.09.2016.
II M.C.A. students participated in the one day workshop on “Industry
Perspective Training Programme in C Language” organised by the
Department of Computer Applications, A.V.C. College of Engineering,
Mayiladuthurai on 15.09.2016.
Our Yoga students received Best Institution Award for Yoga from Tamilnadu
Women Yoga Association Chennai on 24.07.2016.
Bharathidasan University Inter Collegiate Swimming Tournament was
organised by our college Physical Education department during this academic
year.
G.Sasikala of II B.A.Economics and B.Sushmitha I B.Sc. Mathematics
Participated in National Level Take-Won-do competition held at Goa and they
have secured Gold Medal and Silver Medal respectively.
15 students of our college participated in All India Inter State Yoga
Championship held at Chennai and secured overall championship on
04.09.2016.
A.Sasikala of II M.Com. and G.Backiyavathi of III B.A.Economics participated
in Bharathidasan University Inter Collegiate Swimming Tournament and they
have secured 1st and 2nd place .
R.Punitha of I.B.Sc.Physics and A.Ramya of I M.Com. participated in Inter
Collegiate Athletic meet and secured I place in High Jump and I place in 100
mts on 29.09.2016
Special Mention:
Three of our Teaching staff members Dr.A.Santhanalakshmi, Head &
Associate Professor, Department of English, Dr.A.Danalakshmi, Head & Associate
Professor, Department of Tamil and Dr.A.Brema, Head & Associate Professor,
Department of History are retiring this year. Mrs.P.Lalitha, Office Superintendent is
also retiring this year.
Internal Quality Assurance Cell:
The college has an active Internal Quality Assurance Cell. All the Quality
initiatives of the institution are routed through this cell. The Cell is vested with the
responsibility of Quality Enhancement and Quality Sustenance. To ensure quality,
the cell organises External, Academic and Administrative Audits periodically.
The IQAC organised a Faculty Development Programme on “Current Trends
in Education” on 23.09.2016. Dr.M.Rajyakodi, Dean, College Development Council,
Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai enlightened the faculty on the recent trends in
education.

The changing educational scenario demands Higher Educational Institutions
to concentrate on producing skilled human resources. Hence, the college offers
6 certificate courses to hone the employability / entrepreneurial skills of the

Communication Skills Development Training Programme
The college evinces keen interest in the welfare of the taught. It takes all
efforts to make our graduates skilled human resources. Adequate training is given in
communication and soft skill through outsourcing. Communication Skills
Development training programme is offered to the final year students. For this
academic year 2016-17 Doers Institute of Communicative English, kumbakonam
is giving training.
Research Activities:
Research has become an integral part of Education. The college has a
Research Committee to encourage and support the teaching staff to take research
projects. UGC sponsored Minor research projects are also undertaken by the staff
members.

ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION:
The college is keen on maintaining a healthy relationship with the Alumni.
The Departments conduct Alumnae meetings periodically. They contribute to the
Curriculum Development through their suggestions offered during these meetings.
Their feedback help in the Quality initiative and enhancement measures of the
college. This year the Alumni working in the college have donated a refrigerator to
the college canteen.
ANTI RAGGING COMMITTEE :
The Committee aims at ensuring a Ragging free zone. It helps in providing a
conducive atmosphere for learning. It also offers counselling to the students in
emergency situations. The co-ordinator Dr.S.Krishnaveni, attended a meeting at the
District Collectorate on 24.08.2016. The committee has organised a seminar on
“Counselling” on 07.10.2016.
COUNSELLING CELL :
The Counselling Cell organised a seminar on 07.10.2016, titled “Counselling
for Life”. Dr.R.Senbagamalar, Psychiatrist, District Head Quarters Hospital,
Nagapapttinam, in her informative talk stressed the need for physical exercise for
keeping the mind and body fit. She also reiterated the need for developing the habit
of helping others.
GRIEVANCES AND REDRESSAL CELL:
This cell is functioning for the welfare of the students. The students have the
freedom to express their grievances through the suggestion box kept in the
reception. Their grievances are immediately redressed by the benevolent
management.

Economically weaker sections of students are supported by Jai Foundations,
Madurai. Madam Prema Jeyem Pandian has offered financial assistance to
Selvi.K.Sudha, of III B.Com. (SF). She has received a sum of Rs.10,509/- for this
academic year 2016-17.
Student Benefit Fund :
Student Benefit Fund is a novel scheme functioning in the college. It offers
financial assistance to the needy students on loan basis. A sum of Rs.82,150/-
was given on loan basis to 369 students this academic year.
Student Aid Fund:
Three of our students are benefited through Student Aid Fund a sum of Rs.4550/-
towards Examination Fee and Mess Fee.

Departmental Activities
Each department has an Association of its own. They conduct seminars and
other student centred programme regularly.
Department of Chemistry:
The department organised an awareness programme on the need for
“Avoiding Plastics” at Andanapettai, the adopted village of our college on
29.07.2016. The department organised a “Chemistry EXPO 30.07.2016. On
23.12.2016 the department organised Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan Diwar week programme
as a joint venture with Tamilnadu, Agricultural University, ICAR - Krishi Vigyan
Kendra, Sikkal. Various competitions were conducted by the Kendra and prizes
were distributed to the winners. The department has signed an MoU with CPCL,
Panangudi.
Department of Commerce :
On 29.07.2016 PG and Research Department of Commerce organised a
seminar on “Personality Development”. Dr.Syed Rafiq Ahamed, Associate Professor
of Commerce, New College, Chennai was the Resource person.
The Department conducted a debate on “Demonetization - A boon or bane”.
The Department also conducted an exhibition on 02.08.2016 and prizes were given
to the best exhibits. Dr.M.Selvachandra, Head of the department acted as a
resource person for the seminar on Modern Banking, E-Banking and E-Wallet
organised by the department of Commerce of A.R.C. Viswanathan College,
Mayiladuthurai on 23.09.2016.
As part of the extension activity the department organised an awareness
programme on “Banking Schemes” at Andanapettai, our adopted village. Mr.Karthik
kumar, Consumer Associate, State Bank of India, Nagapattinam, the resource
person explained to the villagers about the various banking schemes.
A tree plantation campaign was organised by the department on 02.08.2016
in association with State Bank of India and saplings provided by the SBI were
planted in the college campus. Four tree guards were provided by SBI.
The department of Commerce is offering two short term certificate courses
namely E-banking and Disaster Management for the benefit of the students.
Department of Economics:
Under the auspices of the Economic Forum, a seminar was organised on
14.09.2016 on the topic, “How to prepare for Competitive Examinations”.
Dr.V.Dhandapani, Assistant Professor of Economics, Thiru.Vi.Ka. College (Govt.),
Thiruvaur was the Resource Person.
Economics Forum also hosted a seminar on 03.02.2017 on the topic
“Economic Impact on Demonetisation and Budget 2017” with Dr.P.Natarajan,
Assistant Professor of Economics, Rajah Serfoji Govt. College, Thanjavur as the
resource person.
As part of the extension activity the department conducted an “Arts and Craft
Class” at Andanapettai on 23.12.2016. SHG women of Andanapettai were taught
coffee powder painting, oil painting and wall hanging.
An awareness programme on “Eradication of Child Labour” was organised at
Andanapettai on 12.08.2016. Students of Economics were taken to
M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundations, Poombuhar, on 30.07.2016. They were
given training in Fish based Micro Enterprises Development and its Economics.
Department of English:
The department of English conducted a Bridge Course in English on
26.07.2016 and 27.07.2016 for all the first year students to bridge the gap between
the required and acquired level of English language.
On 20.10.2016 Arundhathi Roy Club of English conducted a One day seminar
on the topic “Shakespeare for Z gen” Mrs.S.Sathyabama, Associate Professor of
English, A.V.C.College, Mayiladuthurai was the resource person.
The department extends its activity to the community through its extension
activities entitled “The Basic English”. This programme is offered to the school
students who study from DMI society and NGO organization.
Department of English conducted English Literary Exhibition on 03.08.2016.
The department is offering a short term certificate course on Objective English for
Competitive Examination.
Department of History:
On 01.08.2016 the Humanities Association conducted a meeting on the topic
“Employment Opportunities in Tourism”. Mr.G.Rajendran, Industrialist, Arvind Air
Travels, Nungampakkam, Chennai, the Chief Guest explained about the various
types of Tourism and the job opportunities available in this field.
The Department of History celebrated the constitution day on 28.11.2016.
Dr.A.Brema, Head, Department of History gave a lecture on the topic “Indian
Constitution and its salient features”.
A meeting was convened on 12.12.2016 by the Humanities Association.
Dr.K.Sankari, Associate Professor of History, Distance Education, Annamalai
University, Annamalai Nagar was the resource person.
Human Rights Club celebrated, “Human Rights Day” on 22.12.2016.
Thiru.K.K.Rajakumar, Advocate spoke about “Women’s Legislation”. Students of
History were taken to field visit to the Archaeological excavation site at Keezhadi,
Pallichandam pudur near Madurai.
As part of the extension activity an awareness programme was organised at
Andanapettai Govt. Middle School. Dr.C.Tamilselvi spoke about Dengue Fever,
Preventive measure for Dengue Fever and about the medical facilities available in
the Government Head Quarters Hospital, Nagapattinam.
Department of Mathematics:
Ramanujan Mathematical Association conducted an exhibition on the title
“Mathematics in Day to day Life” Dr.Robinson, Associate Professor of Mathematics,
Madras Christian College was invited on 16.09.2016. He spoke on the topic “Mind of
a Mathematician”. As part of the extension activity, the students of Panchayat Union
School, Andanapettai were taught Easy Arithmetic by the faculty. A Quiz
Competition was also conducted for them on the same day.
Dr.K.Prakash Rani and Dr.N.Sarala were invited as the Chair persons for the
seminar on “New insights of Mathematics - NCONIM – 2016” organised by the
E.G.S. Pillay Arts and Science College, Nagapattinam on 22.08.2016 and
23.08.2016. Dr.K.Prakash Rani was the Resource Person for the seminar titled
“Applications of Queuing Theory” organised by Sri Sarada Mahavidhyalayam Arts
and Science College for Women, Ulundurpet on 23.08.2016.
Department of Physics:
The department organised a one day workshop on “Gaussian Software” on
12.04.2016. Dr.J.Swaminathan, Associate Professor of Chemistry, A.V.C. College of
Engineering, Mannampandal was the Resource Person. A workshop on “Science
Innovation - Hands on practical session” was organised on 11.08.2016. Ms.V.Sathya
kumari, Hi-Tech Research Foundation, Tranquebar was the Resource person.
The department organised a seminar on the topic “Save Electricity” on
24.08.2016 to create awareness among the students about the need for saving
electricity. S.Krishnan, Junior Engineer, TNEB, Nagapattinam spoke about the need
for saving electricity.
A seminar on “Quantification of Placer Minerals by Modelling of
Electromagnetic Response using Computational Techniques-An innovative
approach” was organised by the department on 10.12.2016 with Dr.M.Sundararajan,
Senior Scientist cum Professor (CIMER-ACSIR) Natural Resource and Modelling
(CSIR) Central Institute of Mining and fuel Research - Dharbad, Jharkhand as
Resource Person.
On 11.01.2017 the Women Empowerment Cell of the department organised
two seminars titled “Old age Home - A Bane to Society” and “Opportunities and
Availability in Armed Forces”. Mr.K.Rajakumar, Advocate, District Magistrate Court,
Nagapattinam spoke about the need for showing love and care to the old people.
He also spoke about the employment opportunities available in Armed Forces.
PG students of Physics attended the “One day Training Programme on SLET/
NET Examinations” at Physics Research Association of Research, Department of
Physics, Khadir Mohideen College, Adirampattinam on 25.01.2017.
As part of the Industry-Institute linkage programme a workshop on “Hands on
Training in Micro process” was organised on 07.02.2017. Mr.Mohan, Manager,
M.M.Electronics, Vedaranyam was the Resource Person.
Department of Tamil:
The Inaugural Function of the Tamil Literary Association was held on
04.10.2016. The Chief Guest Dr.V.Mathiyarasan, Assistant Professor of Tamil,
Bharathidasan University Constituent College, Nagapattinam spoke on the topic
“Women Empowerment Literature”.
On 07.02.2017 the Department of Tamil released “Tamizhosai”, a magazine
periodically published purely with the contribution of students. It was released by
Dr.Ela. Rajeswari, Head, Department of Tamil, Bharathidasan University Constituent
College, Nagapattinam. She gave an enlightening lecture on “Swami Vivekananda’s
ideas on Education”.
Department Of Zoology:
The department conducted a Science Exhibition, “Zoology Inspire 2016” on
30.07.2016. In connection with “Wild Life Week” celebration oratorical, essay and
drawing competitions were conducted by the department.
Flying Fish Zoological Association organised a one day seminar on
03.02.2017 on the topic “Fresh Water Fish Culture”. Dr.A.Muralidharan, Assistant
Professor of Zoology, D.D.E. Wing, Annamalai University was the Resource Person.
As part of the extension activity the department arranged for a talk on the
“Importance of breast feeding” at Andanapettai on 09.08.2016. The students of
II B.Sc. Zoology participated in the coastal cleanup programme on 01.02.2017.
On 11.08.2016, Zoology students attended a workshop on “Fish Processing and
Presentation Technology” held at Fish for all Research and Training Centre,
Poombuhar, Nagapattinam.
Bio-Chemistry :
A Science Exhibition was conducted on 03.08.2016. An awareness
programme on “Women Health” was conducted by the department on 07.09.2016.
As part of the extension activity, the department organised an awareness
programme on the need for Rain Water Harvesting at Andanappettai on 17.08.2016.
Business Administration:
The department conducted an Exhibition on 11.08.2016. As part of the
extension activity, the students of BBA created awareness among the students of
Panchayat Union, at Andanapettai village.
Department of Computer Science:
The department conducted an exhibition titled “Exhibition 2016” on
10.08.2016 and prizes were given to the best exhibits. A two day workshop on
“Multimedia” was conducted on 09.09.2016 and 10.09.2016 for the students.
Mr.K.Antony Justine, Alpha Sense Technologies, Kumbakonam and C.Saravanan,
Graphics Designer, Monk port Technologies, Chennai were the Resource Persons.
A seminar titled “Emerging Trends in Networking” was organised on 10.01.17
P.Palpandy, Network Engineer, Live wire, Chennai enlightened the students on
recent trends in networking. As part of the extension activity online training is being
given to all the final year students by the faculty. The department gave computer
training M.S. Office and Internet to the economically backward school dropouts at
District Child protection Unit, Nagapattinam from 10.08.2016 to 23.09.2016 and
certificates were issued to them during the valedictory function held on 26.11.2016.
CO-CURRICULAR AND CLUB ACTIVITIES
Exnora And Environmental Club :
25 students along with 3 staff members took part in the 15.08.2016
Independence Day celebration at Govt. Middle School, Andanappettai. 25 plant
saplings were planted by the club in the school campus.
An awareness programme was also conducted on “Practice for Fuel
Conservation / Saving”. Mrs. Buvaneswari Chandrasekar, Faculty, PCRA, ONGC,
Karaikal, spoke about “the need for fuel conservation and the ways and means of
saving / conserving fuel”.
Gender Club :
The club conducted an oratorical competition in Tamil as a joint venture with
the District Family Welfare Bureau, Govt. District Head Quarters Hospital,
Nagapapttinam on 06.09.2016. The club also conducted a Rangoli competition for
the students along with M.R.Sons, Nagapattinam on 11.01.2017.
On 22.02.2017 the club organised a seminar on “Cashless Economy”.
Dr.S.Rajarajan, Associate Professor of Economics, Govt. Arts College for Men,
Kumbakonam enlightened the audience on cashless economy.
NCC :
5 of our NCC students participated in the Trekking camp held at Ooty from
24.05.2016 to 02.06.2016. 10 NCC students attended the CATC Camp held at
A.V.C. College, Mayiladuthurai from 13.06.2016 to 21.06.2016. 2 of our NCC
students took part in the RDC Camp held at Anna University, Tiruchirapalli campus
from 12.08.2016 to 21.08.2016. 4 NCC students participated in the CATC Camp
held at GTN Arts College, Dindigul from 18.11.2016 to 27.11.2016. 6 NCC students
along with Lieutenant, Associate NCC Officer Dr.R.Latha attended the NCC Training
Camp at Warangal (AP) from 14.11.2016 to 25.11.2016.
NSS - Unit I & II
Our NSS volunteers undertook a mega tree plantation work in the college
campus from 01.07.2016 to 08.07.2016. The unit celebrated the world Breast
Feeding Week by inviting Dr.K.R. Jeyakumar, Paediatrician, Government Head
Quarters Hospital, Nagapattinam as the Chief Guest.
Our volunteers took part in the 70th Independence Day celebration at District
Collectorate, Nagapapttinam on 15.08.2016. On 21.09.2016 the NSS volunteers
participated in the special Olympic Bharat Tamil Nadu Community level coaches
Training Programme at E.G.S. Pillay Arts and Science College, Nagapattinam.
NSS Day was celebrated on 24.09.2016 celebrated as Youth Awakening Day.
An Exhibition on the theme “save nature” was organised by the unit. 25 volunteers
lent a helping hand in the “Desalting of a unused pond” at our adopted village
Andanapettai. National Voters Day was celebrated in the college premises on
25.01.2017.
Quiz Club :
The club conducted an Inter departmental Quiz Competition on 16.08.2016
and prizes were distributed to the winners.
The club also conducted a Quiz Competition for the Panchayat Middle School
students at Andanapettai, our adopted village. In connection with. World Tourism
Day 2016 Tourism for all .A Tour Quiz 2016 was organised on 27.09.2016 by Trichy
Travel Federations. our students secured the 5th place.
Red Ribbon Club :
On 09.08.2016 the club organised a seminar on “The Importance of Breast
Feeding”. Dr.C.Ajith Prabu Kumar, M.D.,M.H.D., Dr.S.Kausalya, M.B.,B.S.,D.A.,
Dr.K.R. Jeyakumar, M.B.,B.S., D.C.H., and Dr.S.Senthilkumar were the Resource

Women Cell :
As part of the celebration of Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s memorial Day”, the club
organised a one day workshop on 27.07.2016 titled “Laws for Women” as a joint
venture with the Rotary Club of Karaikal.
The Chief Guest , Rtn.Martin Santhome, Advocate enlightened the audience
about the various laws enacted for the protection of women.
Youth Red Cross :
On 27.06.2016 YRC volunteers took part in the “World Drug Prohibition Day “
rally jointly organised by the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagapattinam District
branch and Narcotic Branch CID Department, Nagapattinam. As part of the
extension activity the unit organised an awareness programme on “First Aid.”to
the students Panchayat Union Middle School. The unit also donated a First Aid Box
and Medicines to the school. Mr.J.Benjamin First Aid Trainer Indian Red Cross
Society, Nagapattinam District Branch was invited as the Resource Person.
A two day First Aid Training camp was organised by the Unit from 26.07.2016
to 27.07.2016. 64 YRC volunteers attended the camp.
In connection with World Population Day a seminar was organised on the
topic “Human Population and Human Development” on 04.08.2016. A Quiz
competition was also conducted on the same day. On 12.08.2016, 50 YRC
volunteers along with the co-ordinator participated in the Geneva Convention Day
Meeting. District Revenue Officer and District Chief Educational Officer were the
Resource Persons.
On 14.09.2016, our volunteers assisted the Gardener in applying organic
manure to the plants in the college premises. From 28.09.2016 to 30.09.2016,
Fifteen YRC volunteers attended a three day training programme on “First Aid and
Disaster Management” organised by the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagapattinam.
In connection with Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s Birthday observed as “World
Students Day ,Selvi Neela of II B.Sc. Chemistry gave an inspiring talk on
“Dr.Abdulkalam’s Powerful Quotations”. On 19.12.2016 a one day training in
Disaster Management is given to 115 YRC volunteers by Mr.J.Benjamin, District
Co-ordinator, IRCS, Nagapattinam gave training to the volunteers.
An awareness programme on “Road Safety” was organised on 25.01.2017.
YRC volunteers distributed pamphlets about Road Rules to the college students. In
connection with “National Youth Day” celebrations the unit conducted oratorical
essay and music competitions.
Five YRC volunteers along with Mrs.R.Alamelu the co-ordinator attended the

Hostel:
Our Hostel is an ideal home for its 195 inmates by providing them nutritious
food and conducive locale. In the hostel it has warden, house keeper, watch man,
cooks and menial staff to take care of the students.
Conclusion:
This is the time to look back and acknowledge the contributions made by our
well-wishers and benefactors. At the outset I am grateful to God Almighty for
showering all his bounteous blessings. It is my bounden duty to express my sincere
and heartfelt thanks to the management for their patronage and encouragement. My
sincere thanks are due to the committee members. I express my deep sense of
gratitude to the dedicated teachers and administrative staff stead fast in their zeal
and commitment to the college. I owe much to my dear student friends for all their
support and co-operation in the day to day activities of the college. I would fail in my
