ECOSYSTEM APPROACH TO FISHERIES MANAGEMENT (EAFM) PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS

PREPARING THE EAFM PLAN

Activity 8- Reality check

• Identify the opportunities and threats through SWOT analysis in meeting our FMA goals

• Identify potential or actual conflicts among stakeholders in the FMA.

Objectives

The 5 steps of EAFM

For each goal we identified, we (or our agency/stakeholder group) will

have our own strengths and weaknesses to achieving it.

These may include:

- Lack of skills (weakness)

- Dedicated BFAR/ LGU staff willing to learn (strength)

- Local champions (strength)

Strengths and weaknesses are internal factors (within our control)

Some of the weaknesses may already be in our list of issues and

problems.

Strengths and weaknesses to meeting the goals

For each goal we identified, there will be opportunities and threats to

achieving it.

These may include: - Difficulties in transportation, communication (threat)

- El Niño, typhoons (threat)

- Active, organized fisherfolk groups (opportunity)

Opportunities and threats are external factors (may not be within our

control)

Some threats may have been already included in our issues and
