Madonna has been lots of things: singer, actress, dancer, writer,
teenage idol … Now Madonna has invented another role for herself
– famous mum.
Her daughter, Lourdes, who is just thirteen years old, now goes
with her to fi lm premiers and other similar events. But this kind
of exposure to global fame has led to problems for lots of kids
of celebrity parents – drug addiction and public disasters of all
kinds.
This is where Madonna steps in as “super-mom”. She has protected
her daughter from the press, letting her be seen, but not heard.
Madonna has vetoed several fi lm projects Lourdes was rumoured
to be involved in, including a Harry Potter fi lm.
Lourdes is allegedly currently involved in a fi lm project. It’s
a fi lm about Edward VIII. Why is she allowed to be involved in it?
Because it is Madonna’s own project. Lourdes has also launched
a line of clothes called “material girl”; again, in partnership with
her mother.
At the launching of the new line, Madonna was the spokesperson,
with Lourdes well behind the scenes. In interviews, she explained
how she was worried about the effects of celebrity life in the public
eye. “That is why I am here talking about the line and she is not.
Eventually I will let her. I feel like she needs to go to high school
and focus on her studies”, she said.
So, it looks like Lourdes should be able to avoid the problems other
famous kids have had with Super-Mom to watch out for her.
