Activision vs. Worlds Inc.

• Worlds Inc. sues Activision for virtual world infringement

• They filed a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard over World of Warcraft and Call of Duty.

• According to the company, both franchises violate its patent by using a "system and method for enabling users to interact in a virtual space."

Worlds Inc., not the first time?

• This is the second time Worlds Inc. has sued a publisher over an MMOG.

• The company went after South Korea-based NCSoft back in 2008, claiming that City of Heroes and its other MMOGs for the same reason

• That case ended up getting dismissed

• These patents relate to computer architecture for three-dimensional graphical multi-user interactive virtual world systems. Such systems are used in Massive Multiplayer Online games (MMOs).

• Why wait until now?

and strong evidence of infringement of our patents by Activision Blizzard, Inc. et al and that we have an excellent chance of success in this case.”

• They’re not even sure that Activision is using the patents.
