Accumark, Inc, a sister compa-ny to Laser Magic, Inc, is a laser etching and printing job shop lo-cated in the heart of the St. Croix River Valley in Northwestern

Wisconsin. Our experience and proven history earned us a reputation as one of the top etching and imprinting shops in the country. Founded in 1985, we started with one laser in a small location with two main objectives: Provide quality engraving and imprinting at competitive pric-es while treating our customers as we would want to be treated. Expansion of the building in 1992, 1995, and 2004 allows us to grow and in-crease capabilities to match our customers' needs. We offer our customers a wide range of services to allow them to be more competitive in the grow-ing Industrial, Medical, Aerospace, Promotion, and Ad Specialty industries. Today we operate many unique etching and printing departments all under one roof, and are considered by many as a ‘one stop’ job shop that can do it all, offering the following etching and printing capabilities: CO2 laser marking, Nd: YAG laser marking, fiber optic laser marking, rotary laser etching, sand etching, PAD printing, silk screening, cylindrical screen printing, UV digital full color printing, and sublimation. CO2 LASER ETCHING We boast a dozen various CO2 lasers in house. CO2 lasers are best used to etch on organic materials such as wood, acrylic, plastic, glass, marble, rubber, paper, and fabrics. Coated metals can also be CO2 laser etched, such as painted brass and anodized aluminum. Up until a few years ago stainless steel was unable to be marked using CO2 lasers. However, with a process we call 'C-Marking', we apply a silicone based material to the stainless steel prior to etching. Once etched, the material bonds with the stainless steel resulting in a permanent black mark that has proven incredibly resistant to accelerated UV and salt spray testing. After engraving, the left over sili-cone based material gets washed away with simple water. Other materials besides those mentioned above may be possible to laser etch as well. We always wel-come new product testing!

YAG & Fiber Optic Laser Etching YAG Lasers: Using a unique wave length of light, the YAG laser process has remarkable effects on brass, pewter, acrylic, plastic and other materials. With our Nd:YAG lasers, Laser Magic can mark most types of metals. On stainless steel, three types of marks can be achieved.

Fiber Optic Lasers: Fiber optic laser introduces a new level of reliability, as fiber optic lasers exhibit high vibration stability, extended lifetime over Nd:YAG lasers, a near maintenance-free day to day opera-tion, and a compact size when compared to rod or gas lasers of comparable power.

For our customers the new fiber optic laser offers another platform for marking a wide range of materi-als such as plastics and metals. In particular the fiber optic laser excels at marking plastics with unrivaled beam quality and stability, it has proven especially proficient at removing highly reflective coatings from delicate substrates, and has caught the attention of medical part manufactures as a preferred method of laser marking their product.

Sand Carving Sand carving is also know as sand etching, and is a process used to etch or engrave various substrates that uses sand abrasives to do the carving. It is the process that is often used when marking crystal and glass with a distinct ‘frosted’ look, but can also be used on other substrates such as marble, acrylic, gran-ite, metals, plastics, and more. It is one of the most simple and accessible methods for product decora-tion, and is capable of producing beautiful and permanent designs. The sand carving process is relatively straightforward. First, a photomask stencil is applied to the surface that’s being carved. Then, an abrasive, sand-like material (such as aluminum oxide) is propelled onto that surface. The abrasive carves the surface only in the open areas of the stencil, while the areas covered by the photomask remain smooth and spotless. As a result, the impression made in the glass, crystal, or stone cleanly follows the pattern in the photo-mask.

PAD Printing Pad printing is an ink printing process that is used to transfer a 2-D image onto a 3-D object. This pro-cess is accomplished by using an indirect offset printing process that involves an image being burned into a cliché, and then transferred from the cliché using a silicone pad onto the product. Pad printing works well for printing on surface areas that are hard to reach and cannot be silk screened, such as cylindrical, concave, and convex. The pad printing process applies substantially less ink than silk screening. Less ink means it is harder to cover up base colors and make true colors on parts.

Silk Screen Printing Silk screening uses a woven screen with varied densities that have a coating of emulsion troweled onto them. The screen is then exposed through a light source using a film positive of the art transferred. The image is burned into the emulsion and then washed out, leaving only the images exposed. The ink is dragged across the screen by use of the squeegee and applied to the surface through the screen. Actual dots flow together to form the image on the parts. The flatter and smoother the item, the clearer the print will be. Different inks can be used to work with a variety of substrates, such as textiles, ceramics, wood, paper, glass, metal, rubber, and plastic. As a result, screen printing is used in many different industries, including medical, industrial, and promotional add specialties.

UV Direct Jet Digital Printing (full color) UV Direct Jet Digital Printing is extremely versatile. It can provide incredibly crisp text with vibrant col-ored images with excellent solvent and abrasion durability on a large variety of substrates. Full color printing capabilities up to 5760 dpi is possible on surface areas up to 10”x14”. A UV LED light instantly cures the UV ink without heat during the printing process eliminating any dry time typically required us-ing other ink printing methods. Flat surfaces work best, but some round surfaces are possible to be printed on with limitations. Our direct jet UV print services can be used to decorate many different substrates from wood, ceramic tiles, glass, stainless steel, acrylic, Plexiglas, plastics, and more.

Sublimation

Sublimation is the process by which an image printed on paper is transferred to another surface. Unlike conventional inks, sublimation inks are converted directly from a solid to a gas under heat and pressure, causing them to bond with fibers of synthetic materials such as polyester. The molecules of the ink re-vert to a solid state upon cooling, permanently staining the surface of the polyester. Sublimation works great for printing full color pictures and logos. Sublimation has become one of the mainstay methods of imprinting that is quick, provides high definition, high quality, and sometimes low cost compared to other printing methods. The following are just a few common items and materials that can be used for sublimation: ceramic tiles, wood, metals, plates, caps, tote bags, t-shirts, mugs and other miscellaneous fabrics and materials.
