Purpose

This training material highlights how to set up email on mobile devices.

Audience

University of Memphis faculty, staff, or students that will be setting up email on

mobile devices.

Configuring Mobile Devices

Email Single Sign On Effective May 25,2020, ITS enabled single sign-on for Office 365 to strengthen

security, especially for employees who are using multi-factor authentication (Duo).

Mobile Devices Could Require Email Reconfiguration for Native Mail Client If you use a current version of the Outlook app on your mobile phone, the

authentication should work without any changes on your part.

If you use the native email client for your Android or iOS device, you may need to

remove your University Exchange email account from your device and add it again to

authenticate with single sign on.

To remove your email account on iOS 1. From the Home screen go to Settings > Accounts & Passwords > Select

Exchange.

2. Scroll down to see and click on Delete this Account.

3. Complete the process of deleting the account.

To add your email account on iOS to access your Office 365 email and calendar

1. From the Home screen go to Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Add Account.

2. Select the option for Microsoft Exchange.

3. Enter the following information and then tap Next.

• Email: your UUID@memphis.edu

• Description: Exchange is entered automatically (you can change this if

you wish).

4. When prompted how to sign into your Exchange account, tap Sign In.

5. Enter your UUID and password and click Login.

6. If you have signed up for Duo, a two-factor authentication prompt will pop up.

• Select the method of authentication.

• A push notification will display.

• Approve the authentication using Duo.

7. Click Continue at the Microsoft login screen.

8. Click Save. You should now be able to go to Home screen and use the Mail icon.

Android Before you begin, first delete your existing UofM email account from your phone by

going to Settings, Accounts, Microsoft Exchange Active Sync. Select your UofM

account and click the Menu Button and click Remove Account.

Follow the steps below to add the UofM mail account with the new settings.

1. Tap Settings.

2. A)Tap General, B) Tap Accounts

3. C)Tap Add Account.

4. Tap Microsoft Exchange Active Sync, Android will try to retrieve the server settings.

5. A) Enter your email address (uuid@memphis.edu) and your email password.

Click OK. B) Click Manual Setup if setup could not connect to server.

6. Enter the following information:

• 1. Username: username@memphis.edu

• 2. Password: your University of Memphis password

• 3. Exchange Server: outlook.office365.com

• Domain: if available, leave blank

7. Select your Account Options. Click Next.

8. Name your account. Click Done.

9. Enter your UUID and password and click Login

11. Approve the authentication using Duo.

Your android device is now setup to receive email.

Downloading and Installing the Outlook App

iOS Download and installation. 1. Download the Outlook app from the Apple Store

2. Launch the application.

3. Enter your email address uuid@memphis.edu.

4. A) Enter your email address uuid@memphis.edu. B) Click Next.

5. Enter your UUID and password and click Login.

You have successfully added your UofM email account.

Android Download and Installation 1. Download the Outlook App from the Google Play Store.

2. Launch the application.

3. Enter the following information when prompted.

• Username: username@memphis.edu

• Domain: leave blank

• Email address: username@memphis.edu

• Password: your University of Memphis password

• Server: outlook.office365.com 4. Enter your UUID and password and click Login.

5. If you have signed up for Duo, a two-factor authentication prompt will pop up. a. Select the method of authentication. b. A push notification will display. c. Approve the authentication using Duo.

You have successfully added your UofM email account.

• The ITS Service Desk is available from 8:00 a.m. – 11:59 p.m., seven days a week (excluding some holidays). You can contact the Service Desk for assistance with technical login problems or issues. Incoming calls after hours will be handled by voicemail services. If you require

assistance after 12:00 a.m., please leave a message or submit a service request.

• Messages will be checked regularly and receive priority response the following business day. You may also email The Center for Teaching and Learning, umtech@memphis.edu (using this email will automatically generate a help desk ticket).
