DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK
7
ACADEMY PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Ages: 13-17
Aims:
• Develop a broader and deeper base of talent for
HWA state team programs
• Provide ‘more opportunities to more athletes’ in the preadolescent years of athlete development
• Offer higher quality development environments for aspiring talent
• Provide education and development support in priority talent development areas for athletes, parents and aspiring coaches
• Provide touch point programs more appropriately spaced and infused into athlete commitments across the calendar year
Timing:
Age based programs tailored to fit appropriately across the year – refer to the appropriate age program.
Note:
Being in the Academy Program is not a pre- requisite for
state selection nor it is a guarantee of future selection. All
athletes wishing to nominate for state selection will need to
do so in a seperate process. The selection process for all
state teams will be conducted through trials independent of
each Academy program.
Program delivery overview:
• High quality training sessions planned and delivered by
qualified coaches with National and International
experience;
• Focus on both basic and advanced skill acquisition and development;
• Small sided games – constraint-based learning modules;
• High intensity full pitch games;
• Education workshops – understanding the “why” and not just the “how!”
• Functional movement and strength development with assessment;
• Individual Athlete Profiling – each Academy member will have their own electronic profile through Participa8;
• Constant athlete feedback process with formal critique provided at program completion;
• Training and game session video capability at camps
with specialist coding for feedback;
• Parent support education with open and transparent
communication philosophy;
• Hockey WA Culture and Values - conduct and
behavior expectations;
• State Team trial and selection preparation;
• National Championship performance preparation. 8
