8. EXPLANATION OF THE CHANGE: We have decided to reduce the number of credits required for the supervised professional practice as the students have opportunities for hands-on activities within other courses. The supervised professional practice will continue to serve as a capstone experience to allow the students to reinforce their understanding in a healthcare or related setting. Currently project management has been introduced as a part of the HIM management course. Recommendations from the HIM Program Advisory Board and other professionals, as well as input regarding curriculum content and industry trends from leaders in the HIM field indicate that increased exposure to project management will be beneficial for our students. The addition of the CIS 338 as a required course will provide this content as well as free up time for additional or expanded content in the HIM management course by moving the project management topic. The number of credits available for electives is changed as a result of changes to HIM 485 and addition of CIS 338.

PROGRAM FORM #3 updated AAC Feb09
The Software Development specialization and the Web Development specialization are merged into a single Software Development specialization. This specialization will ensure that students have experiences with desktop, web, and enterprise application development. The pick-from list will allow the student to tailor the program to meet career goals. The Change Management specialization is renamed to Project Management and the course list is adjusted to include a new course, CIS 438 Advanced Project Management. A choice of CIS 350 or CIS 363 is allowed to provide a basic understanding of computer hardware, networking, and system configuration. CIS 363 is a new course and it is a viable option for this position in the program.
