Established with Swami Vivekananda’s vision of “Man Making, Character Building, Nation Building”, Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS) is a pioneer institute in the arena of education, catering to society for almost two decades now. VIPS was founded by Chairman, Dr S.C. Vats in the year 1997 and has grown to be an institution with a mission to create confident and competent professionals. Today VIPS is home to 12 courses, more than 5000 students and 300 faculty members and efficient support staff. It is one of the most preferred institutes in the field of Law, Information Technology, Business Studies, Economics, English Honours and Journalism & Mass Communication. The Vivekananda School of Journalism and Mass Communication (VSJMC) offers Bachelors programme in Journalism and Mass Communication. VSJMC aims at combining academic excellence with practical training preparing students for the challenges prevalent in the diverse media industry. VSJMC’s state-of-the-art infrastructure with skilled and qualified faculty has helped deliver both industry pioneers and university toppers. The co-curricular activities like seminars, guest lectures, workshops, industrial visits, annual media festival and exhibitions help train the students and give them an insight about the industry in addition to encouraging interactions with students from different institutions. From its inception in 2003, Spandan has become synonymous with spreading colours of joy, enthusiasm and designing a platform which provides an array of opportunities to the talented youth in various spheres of the media industry and has received recognition from various colleges and universities around the nation. Spandan is a congregation of media professionals and aspiring youth from all across the country. The festival has been graced with veterans from the media and entertainment industry like Mr Deepak Chaurasia, Ms Swati Sharma, Mr Kuldeep Nayyar, Mr Tigmanshu Dhulia, Mr Milind Khandekar, and Mr Sanjay Mehra. Prominent leaders like Mr Ajay Maken, Late Mr Arjun Singh, and the famous Bronze medalist at summer Paralympics 2016, Mr Varun Singh Bhati have also inspired thousands with their presence at Spandan. Prestigious sponsors have extended enormous support towards making the festival a success year after year. Spandan has been sponsored by both private and government organisations like Pepsi, HERO, Red FM 93.5, ANI, Honda, Unity Group, Hindustan Times, The Citizen, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC Ltd), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) and Gas Authority of India (GAIL Ltd). The two day event, Spandan 2019 will be hosted on November 7- 8, 2019 in VIPS Campus. With unique themes shedding light on various relevant issues, the innovatively conceptualised media festival sets itself apart from other cultural festivals. Spandan 2019 will celebrate ‘150 years of Mahatma Gandhi as a Journalist’ and will lay witness to the winds of change which have earmarked the country’s development through his perspective. The festival will give an ode to the illustrious journey of Hindi cinema and also focus on the globally relevant theme of ‘Water Conservation.’ Spandan has always encouraged delivering messages through media that are simple yet evolving. A unique amalgamation of new age creativity applied via time-tested theories, Spandan 2019 aims to leave a long lasting impression on people, increasing awareness and imparting knowledge. Media PanchayatMedia Panchayat is the flagship event of Spandan where prominent media personalities come together and deliberate upon pertinent issues affecting the media and entertainment industry. The session aims to encompass discussions on topics revolving around social, political and cultural issues. The panel discussion also facilitates student participation through an interactive question-answer session.
VIPS U-specialU-special which stands for University special, is India’s only global film festival whose motto reads that fame is just a film away. In its third year, U-special has collaborated with Spandan 2019 where in the selected campus ambassadors will be working with the U-Special team from the planning to the evaluation stage of the film festival. In addition to this, the student representatives of semester five will also be organizing screening sessions in other
campuses.
SAM WORKSHOPSSAM, a youth-driven team with the objective of designing initiatives to solve youth issues will showcase their in-house fusion band ‘Eternal Bliss’. SAM workshops, an initiative of Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan founded by Shri Ashutosh Maharaj is set to conduct a youth engagement programme at Spandan 2019 with the aim to inspire and transform young minds.
Musical PlayOf art that flows in a melody, the musical play is the biggest celebration of Hindi Cinema, tracing it through its conception, the fascinating journey over the course of over a century, through the timeless art of storytelling. A vibrant tale that travels through evolving lenses of time, with riffs of reel-life smiling at the metronome of real-life. Witness the heard and unheard stories of legends that adorn cinema and the nostalgia that supports it, narrated in harmony with evergreen and ebullient music.
Film FestivalThis year, VIPS Spandan has partnered with The Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA) to host the fourth edition of Cinéphile, an international student film festival. IFUNA has been promoting the objectives of United Nations and its Specialized Agencies for the past four decades. Cinéphile will invite entries from across the globe on the theme of Water Conservation. The winning entries will be screened in a special session organized by the semester five
students.
EVENTS
Workshops and Competitive EventsMore than 15 competitive and non-competitive events will be conducted on both the days of Spandan ranging from RJ hunt, rap cypher, talent hunt, dance battle, anchor hunt, providing participants a platform to exhibit their talent. The event will also comprise a multitude of knowledge and skill enriching workshops on writing, photography, designing, film making and digital media marketing.
