About UsThe OSSE Division of Student Transportation provides safe and efficient transportation services for eligible District of Columbia students.
Qualified and trained bus drivers and attendants staff over 600 bus routes and transport more than 3,200 students to public, private and non-public schools in the region.
Bus Drivers:• Complywithalltrafficlawsand
regulations.• Maintainanefficientbusservice
schedule.• Takeallsafetyprecautionsand enforceallsafetyprocedures.
• Managestudentbusbehavior appropriately.
Bus Attendants:• Ensureallstudentsaresafelysecured
during transport. • Assistthedriverandstudents withsafetyequipmentandsafetyrestraints.
• Ensureallstudentsboardandexitthebussafely.

Parent Resource CenterThe Parent Resource Center is the communicationslinkbetweenthe Division of Student Transportation, parents/guardians,schoolpersonnel,andsocialworkers.
What we do?• Providehigh-qualitycustomer servicetoparents/guardians, schoolsandallstakeholdersbypromptlyaddressingstudent transportation matters.
• Adviseofbusstatusandbusdelays.• Makeoutboundcallstoparents
to communicate route schedule changesduetoinclementweather or other emergencies.
• Distributeliteratureincluding TransportationHandbookfor Parents and DOT Policies and Standards guide.
Our DepartmentsBus Operations• Managefourbusterminals:AdamsPlace,5thStreet,NewYorkAvenue,andSouthwest.
• Supervisemorethan1500drivers, attendants, and terminal operations staff.
Getting StartedTomakeatransportationrequest:
1. Parentsschedulemeetingswith the School IEP team to determine eligibility.
2. IEP team verifies the need and determines mode of transportation.
3.Requestsaresubmittedtotheschooltransportation liaison at OSSE-DOT or DCPSdependingontypeofschool.
4.Appropriatedocumentationshowingeligibilitymustbereceivedbeforestudents are assigned to a bus route.
5. If a student is able to use public transportation to and from school, tokensand/orfarecardswillbe issued at the school.
6.Parentscanrequesttotransport astudentbyprivatecarandOSSE-DOTwillprovidereimbursementona per-mile basis. Contact the Parent Resource Center for more details.

Routing and Scheduling• Assignspecialneedsstudents
to bus routes that meet ride time requirements.
• Createtripticketsandroute manifests for drivers.
• Makechangestoroutesinresponsetoinformationprovidedbyschools,driver, attendants and terminal managers.
Fleet• Overseeinventoryofmorethan700
school buses.• Ensuresmaintenanceschedulesareperformedontimeandqualityrepairsare completed.
• Ensuresbusesaresafe,compliant,and in good operating condition.
Strategy & Technology• Providesapplicationdevelopment,dataanalysis,andreportingservicesaswellastechnologysupport.
• InstallsGPSUnitsoneachbusandtracksroutes,studentpick-ups/drop-offs and school arrivals to determine on-time performance.
Audit and Compliance • Investigatecomplaints,incidentsand
accidents.• Conductcompliancereviewofbuses,
driving operations and rider interactions.
Fiscal Management • FormulatesandmanagestheannualbudgetforOSSE-DOTandtracksexpenditures.
• Ensurestimelypaymentsofparentreimbursements for transportation-related services.
• ManagesTokenandFareCard program for eligible recipients.
